POST GAME [Round 25, 2022] Broncos vs Dragons

I’ll save the big melt down posts for other threads but I just want to say, in a night of disappointment, the worst moment for me was the Piakura knock on / dragons try that put the nail in it.

I forgive Piakura for dropping it, shit happens, but nothing sums up our team more than everyone dropping their head, assuming their job was done, and not playing to the whistle only to get completely embarrassed. Patty was the worst offender - instead of trying to get to the ball to kill the play, he completely took his eyes off it and started mouthing off at the dragons players while the ball was picked up and spread left. The broncos of the last few years are the dumbest football team I’ve seen. You know to play to the whistle from under 9’s.

The play that put all finals chances out of doubt

It was a disappointing way to cap off a disappointing final six rounds of the season. For weeks Walters has stressed the importance of starting well and Brisbane went crap kick, error off a bad offload and then a soft try from dummy half.

I thought they were really unlucky with the sin-bins and even if I wasn't a fan, I'd be pissed. Both tackles had mitigating factors and while I can live with a penalty to sin-bin two players just ruins the contest. Nobody is going to cry over it because it's the Broncos and the season has been in tatters for weeks but people pay good money to watch this sport and games absolutely ruined with these awful interpretations.

I thought Carrigan and Gamble tried their best to lead the team but they just couldn't lift the team. It seemed like the forwards were playing too tight and weren't working towards any areas of the field to really test the Dragons defence. Meanwhile Gamble actually set up some nice plays but was let down by Capewell twice, with the third being a dusty pass for Kurt.

The others I felt would do their part but would switch off or lose their feet at the worst times. It really hurt the Broncos ability to form structures and create any doubt in the defensive lines.

Second half, they tried to roll the dice by playing Cobbo at fullback, but it effectively shut down their left hand side and denied them the opportunity of an ugly win. The damage was done well before that point and I don't mind the decision to try something different but they clearly weren't set up for an effective Plan B.

I thought it was the start of the match when Patty gave away a stupid 6 again penalty and Payne haas couldn't stop Bird who is half his size that really set the tone.

So so poor from KW in my opinion. A better managed game would have resulted in a solid win. This time, I lay the greatest blame at KW's feet.
I quit the Kevvie bashing a while ago after things started to look like they were turning around and from criticism from the likes of Foordy. But F that now.

This is a guy who has only got this job based on him being a former player, his coaching before he got here ranged from dreadful to deluded wishful thinking with Bradley fucking Stubbs and his chaleton for hire service.

Cam Smith quit after one tour under him as coach at the Maroons level and went to play for 3 more years - even refusing to go and mentor the hookers or contribute to KW's sessions in any way. Once Kevvie was gone from that roll, who re-appeared?

Kev might be good to get the culture back in the team, there's a place for him at the club - it's just not in the coaches box.

We need a ruthless, competitive, tactical coach who will rip shreds off players when it's needed. They made a big deal of Kev blowing up after the eels loss. Why? It's a rare event.

We need someone who is going to expect, nay, demand perfection. We need better, starting at the top.

Wayne Bennett and Mal Meninga.

Kev deserves a share of the blame, but I'd put 2018 down to Cam seeing the writing on the wall. Cronk & JT gone, Inglis a shadow of himself and Slater touch and go. It wasn't like Smith was setting the world on fire for Melbourne at the time.

No accountability either, as if the coach is more interested in being mates, then he is in winning.

We get 60 and 53 respectively put on us at home in back to back weeks and no-one gets dropped, aside from injury.

Yeah, good job…

😩

Kev

Anyways, in brighter news, just cancelled Kayo and will switch to Netflix shows I want to catch up on.

Done with NRL for the year, now.

Wasn't Cam still playing when Kev was coach of Maroons? Don't understand that argument.
Broncos have fallen away since Paynes bombshell and Origin hangover. Selections haven't been great but at times forced. Assistants have to go but Kev deserves next year.
Get rid of Payne.
Find some no nonsense forwards to help Carrigan.
Get a hooker preferably Ben Hunt.
New assistants.
Defensive coach needs a new career.
