Round 26 - Broncos vs Panthers - Build Up Thread

The game hasn't changed, the Broncos have. We no longer have Lockyer. We now need a fullback, hooker and halves who can produce something. Hoffman is hopeless at it, McCullough hasn't changed at all since his debut...we basically have to rely on the halves. It was fine when Lockyer was playing, but not any more.

The only team I could see Hoffman being half succesful at nowadays is Manly, maybe the Storm.

Back to full strength (less Yow Yeh).

Joey Johns made a good comment that McCullough, Hunt and Wallace all play a similiar "organiser" role but none of them possess the flair to be truly creative. Although he is in his infancy as a playmaker, Norman can offer that.
I don't think Norman has that flair. If anyone has shown creativeness this year, it was Hunt imo. I don't think Norman should be in the halves at all, and given his form this year, Hoffman shouldn't be the fullback either!

Congratulations. You've identified the problem. Now we all go round in circles about the solution:

1. Pick and stick with a 1,6,7, boots and all, thick and thin, 16th or 1st for
2. Shuffle the deck until we get a combination that works for a few rounds, then shuffle again when in a form slump
3. Import a top tier half.

Number 1 seems to be the long sighted option (I'm not talking about this year, or even next, but maybe 2014), but it requires faith and patience in two or three untried commodities: Ben Hunt, Corey Norman AND Griffin's genuine belief that those two are skilled but raw and just need more experience.

Number 2 is probably the dumbest but easiest option (short term gain)

Number 3 is a possibility, but there are really no genuine options on the market in the next 3 years.

For what it's worth I think taking the whole 6 months in perspective Corey Norman has improved massively as a 5/8 this year compared to where he was at the end of 2011.

When he's filled out (physically and mentally) and at his peak around 25 (he's 21) he could be as good as Brad Fittler or Trent Barrett with his size and footwork.

im done worrying about who's picked in what positions for this season. i am now left with no expectations but I will 100% support the team named this week, and any subsequent weeks we are fortunate enough to play in 2012.

lets face it. we WERE winning games with this lineup.

official

1 hoffman
2 beale
3 reed
4 hodges
5 copley
6 norman
7 wallace
8 petero
9 macca
10 civo
11 glenn
12 thaiday
13 parker

14 hunt
15 mcguire
16 gillett
17 teo

Civo in the 8 and 10, has he been cloned?

That's the only reason or pass I could give to Griffin for naming that side. At first I thought wtf?

Thinking about it a bit more, that has to be it. We were winning games with that line up. I can't see any other reason for keeping Wallace in the side and dropping Hunt back to the bench.

Because Wallace is the best proven halfback at the club.

does anyone REALLY think we can win the premiership without wallace there?

at this point in the season - two rookie halves is NOT going to get us anywhere near the GF. for all his struggles, we simply have to stick with Wallace for the rest of 2012.

Which shows just how dire our halves situation is right now. 2 rookies who have not shown a whole lot, and a rocks or bronze (not diamonds) average halfback with experience.

We're doomed.

Lol.......god yes!!

Conversely, does anyone REALLY think that we will win a premiership WITH Peter Wallace there......?

Not me !!!

Lol.......god yes!!

you think norman and hunt are capable of getting us to the 2012 GF, and winning it?

hmm. i see that as less of a chance than wallace miracously finding form :D

and wow. six losses in a row and the bookies still rate us as $1.25 favourites this week.

Wallace won't lose us a premiership.

Then again, he won't win us one either.

Need a superior half there and if it takes Wallace's pay packet to lure them so be it.

However, let's not turn this into another anti-Wallace thread.

Does anyone REALLY think the Broncos can win the premiership this year, regardless?

The question is long term, and if Wallace was teamed up with Norman/Hunt and they performed at the same level they are now, then no, we can't win a premiership with Wallace. He's not good enough to win a title without excellent, consistent performances from his halves partner, hooker and fullback. And the last 6 weeks we've had woeful performances from himself, his halves partner, and his fullback with solid but not spectacular form from his hooker.

Please refer Thread: FAITH requires no evidence :D

tbh i still think we can make it to week 2 of the finals. and well if we can get to there then anything is possible.

I'm happy with the team that has been named. Hoping to see some brilliance that they performed early on in the season.
