Round 26 - Broncos vs Panthers - Build Up Thread

The question is long term, and if Wallace was teamed up with Norman/Hunt and they performed at the same level they are now, then no, we can't win a premiership with Wallace. He's not good enough to win a title without excellent, consistent performances from his halves partner, hooker and fullback. And the last 6 weeks we've had woeful performances from himself, his halves partner, and his fullback with solid but not spectacular form from his hooker.

We couldn't win it even when the clubs greatest player was holding Wallace's hand......fact is we will NEVER win a premiership as long as Peter Wallace continues to wear the number 7. Is it shere co-incidence that since Wallace joined Brisbane we suffered our worst ever finish in the competition in our entire history?

I think not......

Big Pete's right though......let's not focus on the negatives and turn this into yet another Wallace pile on, regardless of how inept and useless he truly is.

Does anyone REALLY think the Broncos can win the premiership this year, regardless?

When you look at the way we fired against the Bulldogs and then backed that up against the Storm, when we click, we can really play some good footy. Our first halves/20-30 mins against the Bulldogs and the Storm were pretty impressive

The Manly game however was a huge step backwards.......this weeks game will show whether we are still made of the right stuff

As a loyal fan, my answer is yes. (if we move Wallace to the bench...:tongue_smilie:)

Well, the only time we've got bundled out of the finals with both Locky and Wallace together was in 2008.

Thou shalt not mention 2008.

In 2009, Wallace was in awesome form but broke his ankle week 2. Storm flogged us week 3.

2011... Thou shalt not mention the cheek

I don't think Norman has that flair. If anyone has shown creativeness this year, it was Hunt imo. I don't think Norman should be in the halves at all, and given his form this year, Hoffman shouldn't be the fullback either!

Absolutely agreed, we've gone from eh to bleeeeah. Does a winger really warrant shifting your halves and fb around? It's a slap in the face to Maranta also, this is probably the only selection that has ground my gears big time this season.

We deserve it, these massive changes are the kind of thing I'd expect from a Sydney club.

Give me a break.....it's not like they're "massive changes"

He's basically named the team we've played the entire year with......

LOL massive changes. We have played with the team Hook named many times before.

How are these not massive changes? The fact we've played with that team before is irrelevant. The fact is our coach thinks Dale Copley deserves to be in the side so much he is willing to change the combos we've been building (and actually looking half decent with) by moving Norman who has shown more at fb than Hoffman all year to the halves where he has been meh all year, our 5/8 in Hunt who looks sharp in the halves back to the bench and a nuffie in Lollman who has a heart the size of a pea and gets injured every second tackle who's only attribute is pace and an uncanny ability to not be able to pass or tackle (worst 1 on 1 defending fb in the league) or look for offloads in support from our forwards at fb.

Anything I missed?

You probably missed the part that Copley has been really good on the wing for us this year yet you can't look past your obvious agenda. The part that Norman really hasn't been that impressive at all at fullback. Hunt while I wish he stayed in the starting side didn't really force Hook's hand. The team we have now is the team that won us so many games earlier in the year.

Norman has been better at the back then Hoff, fact. Given more time he could develop into a real weapon.

I've got no problem with Copley coming back into the side, my problem is all the changes it's caused when the most obvious and simple one was ignored. Drop Josh Hoffman.

I'm staggered Hoffman has been moved back to fb. I hope he finds his form from last season or at least shows some sign of intent in attack. If he just produces the same as what he was before he was dropped my questions on Griffin will become similar to APs on WB.

I reckon we can knock Penrith over with a basic no mistake game plan anyway but if they happen to match our forward pack we won't have the points with this side.

I'll be cheering for Hoff as loud as anyone but honestly I don't think he has it in him ATM.

As much as I like Hunt Beads is right he hasn't really done so much as to force Hook to keep him at 6 when our full side is fit. Fact is I suppose we were very solid and a big premiership threat in many peoples eyes prior to Origin with this exact side so it is fair to say from Hook's point of view this is the best chance we have of resurrecting our season.

I apologize about saying you have an agenda against Copley. It is clearly an agenda against Hoffman. I must have missed when Norman was so bloody good at fullback. He didn't do a lot that would have cemented his spot as a fullback at the Broncos.

TBH the knocks on Hoffman are an outrage. Sure he has been in poor form to an extent but Hoffman still runs the ball back as well as any fullback in the game. He has just failed to make an impact as an attacking weapon. He is a very safe fullback who is generally good under the high ball. His short comings in attack have as much to do with our flat attacking line and utterly pathetic halves IMO.

He's the lesser of two evils I'm afraid, Beale would be first choice but we went with Norman and should've stuck with him. Conversely, what skills has Hoffman showed that Norman hasn't bettered him at? The only thing is his reading of kicks in D and kick returns. Please feel free to show me any other parts of Hoffman's game where he betters Norman.

And unfortunately for Hoffman we no longer have Darren Lockyer in our side so we need to have a more creative fb rather than a bloke who refuses to get involved unless he is taking dummy half runs.

The only way I could be happy about having Hoff at the back is if we trialled him there with Wal and Hunt in the halves.

I wouldn't say Hoffman refuses to get involved in attack. It would actually be better if that were the case.

hoffman was in the media today saying that all the head knocks this year really killed his confidence.

now you could say "harden up", but in fairness to the kid, its understandable. i mentioned it in the canberra game how he got smashed by shillington and disappeared for the next 40 minutes. it was happening nearly every week for a while there.

while i wholeheartedly supported the move of norman to fullback i feel more 'comfort' in seeing hoffman return to the role. that doesnt mean i hold a heap of confidence in norman at #6.

lets face it if the whole team pulls together and plays for one another it wont matter too much who is where this week.

we just need that confidence again.
