Round 26 - Melbourne vs Broncos - Post Game Discussion

Well thats that barring a miracle. If it is I wonder what secrets will now be revealed. I think as stated above too many errors. Showed plenty of heart thop

If we were ever going to beat them at home, it was tonight.

They made a lot more errors than usual...and unfortunately we just couldn't 'click' when we needed to.

-None of our back 3 can win a bomb contest
-Only 1 half
-Hodges in dummy half too much
-Hunt having his worst game in 2 months
-Bench was absolutely pathetic
-McGuire isn't a #1 prop in an elite team
-No Thaiday
-Lowrie taking 4th tackle hitups two sets in a row after Copley made consecutive 30 metre breaks
-Shit coach

boys tried very hard but in end we were just outclassed. looking back at last 2 seasons and our roster its hard to believe were a bottom table team. it really is just not acceptable and as much as hook is a great bloke and has respect of players he is just not first grade coach material. bring on 2015!!!

I see it now people will bitch and complain and say we are the shitest team to ever play the game (as as become the norm on here after a loss).

but we weren't that bad...

we hung in there with the Storm, who are still one of the best teams in the game.

we were let down by a couple of 5th tackle options,

some discision went against us (probably 50/50 ones only though)

we started poorly, but got back into the game ...

for the most part our defense in that second half was good, quick line speed, getting up in numbers and forcing the Storm (Slater in particular) to make errors.

--------

Things for Hunt to work on in the off-season (assuming a miracle doesn't happen and we are gone):

1. kicking
2. closing out games

Hodges played fullback , dummyhalf , 5/8th and centre. if that's not over doing it then I don't want to breathe anymore

Sad panda. Hodges was costly at fullback early on. Surprised Melbourne wasn't able to exploit that more.
I was hoping for more from Oates but it wasn't to be. I shouldn't be surprised though. He's only had 5min game time up until now.
As soon as Lowrie ran on that was game. (He ran a bit better than I thought he would though).

90% there. Yes some stupid errors n pressure seemed to get to some players. Overall still proud of effort. Not laying sole blame on coach but there were some fucked up decisions made tonight. One armed player plays whole 2nd half. Timing of Lowrie? Looking forward to change next year. Can only b better boys n girls!
BRONCS 4 EVER!

**** off Griffin.

Only Broncos coach to miss the finals two years in a row!

really?, i didn't know we made the finals in 1989 (after missing them in 1988)

Another big problem we have is our wingers under the high ball. Even Maranta was outclassed tonight. I am really starting to question Vidot's value to the side as well.

Maranta was blocked by his own player. Oates I think?

Disappointing result but hats off to the players tonight, they really dug in deep even though it really wasn't clicking for them tonight.

For mine, Melbourne in Melbourne is just a very tough beast and they have so many tricks up their sleeves, eventually they're going to find you out.

Brisbane had their opportunities tonight but were guilty of just trying too hard instead of remaining composed and constructing the set.

Defensively too, they just weren't that good but jesus christ that passage of play to open the second half was just really impressive. They fought tooth and nail and I couldn't have been prouder.

It really is a shame that in the end, the game was decided by a hail mary kick at an out of position player and an intercept.

That sucks.

But the Broncos future...

Is looking very bright.

They'll take a lot of harsh lessons out of this season and they're clearly building. With the inclusion of one of the best talents in the game, the Broncos will regain their status as the top teams in the competition.

Mark my words.

I thought we were too negative tonight, we went away from our game plan from last week and switched back to the flat attacking line and grind mode with 4 or 5 hitups then a shit kick. Which leads to Hodges coming into dummy half too often.

I think we needed more than that tonight, we had to chance our hand a bit more and put the Storm defense under more pressure for mine. The storm can be undone by a bit of ad-lib footy.................all we did was grind.

We will never win a premiership with McCullough at dummy half and McGuire at front row. Not saying they don't have a place in the side somewhere but that's my opinion.

Lol ****! I hear spec savers has a sale on!

Other than Wayne Bennett...

Edit: this is wrong. Sorry Brent

obviously you're counting 1989 where we lost a playoff for 5 th.

Nswrl records suggest that a 5 th place playoff counts as a semi.
