Round 26 - Melbourne vs Broncos - Post Game Discussion

No idea what you guys were watching but we we're horrible. Disgraceful kicking from our halves not to mention our last tackle options in general. Very very poor effort from our backline. Hodges was as weak as piss, the halves were all over the shop. The only positive was a few of our forwards. Weak effort overall in my opinion. Did I mention our dummy half work??

Russell Packer is a must, folks. I keep on saying it over and over but if we add one more big prop to our rotation and throw out the dead weight like Lowrie, we will have a domineering pack.

we don't need him, give the money allocated to him to Hannant ... it may get our offer over the line to keep him.

swapping Hannant for Packer would be a massive mistake (assuming the NRL register a contract for him) ... but at least the Titans will be happy i suppose.

In Packers best season he averaged around 80m a game ... he has been out of the game for 18 months (by the time he would play his first game for us). he isn't intimidating and people aren't scared to have him run at them. we can get just as much from Molo or Hala or Garbutt etc.

Just because he is a shit **** that stomped a guys head while he was on the ground doesn't make him intimidating on a footy field ... he can't even throw a punch without leaving us a man down for 10mins

Can someone explain why hodges was forcing Macca out of dummy half 3/5 tackles for the last 20 minutes? Was he giving him a rest or was he unhappy with his service?

Pathetic.

Storm were gifting them that game and Broncos couldn't take it.

Why? They didn't throw everything they had at them.

I disagree.

Brisbane were on the back-foot the entire second half and had to repel a lot of offence. This took a lot out of them and when they finally got into it, they just over-ran the play which if anything is a sign of trying too hard and pushing plays that aren't on.

Brisbane couldn't swing the game, they didn't have the players to do that and when they managed to, they stuffed it.

And yet we flogged the knights what's your point that's the story of this season

If you take a step back and look at how many errors the Storm made pretty much any other team in the eight would have beat them.

Other teams capitalise on mistakes, we reply with mistakes of our own.

he can piss on the field if he's unhappy

Disappointing result but hats off to the players tonight, they really dug in deep even though it really wasn't clicking for them tonight.

For mine, Melbourne in Melbourne is just a very tough beast and they have so many tricks up their sleeves, eventually they're going to find you out.

Brisbane had their opportunities tonight but were guilty of just trying too hard instead of remaining composed and constructing the set.

Defensively too, they just weren't that good but jesus christ that passage of play to open the second half was just really impressive. They fought tooth and nail and I couldn't have been prouder.

It really is a shame that in the end, the game was decided by a hail mary kick at an out of position player and an intercept.

That sucks.

But the Broncos future...

Is looking very bright.

They'll take a lot of harsh lessons out of this season and they're clearly building. With the inclusion of one of the best talents in the game, the Broncos will regain their status as the top teams in the competition.

Mark my words.

I hope you're right BP.

I think we need a leader, not a Milf.

We have the players with the talent to score points. We need some attacking structure and some discipline.

Without that, we're like the tigers, eels or warriors of 7-10 years ago. Can turn it on on our day, but inconsistent and mentally weak under any real pressure.

I really want to see Molo get a fair go next year, but Garbutt definitely has to be in the team, to much talent for him to play in Q Cup.

even the knights could.beat the storm

well if that your logic for Bennett being a better coach than Griffin ... then i'll use the same logic ...

Since the Knights couldn't beat the Broncos this year (in fact they got smashed both times) the Griffin must be the better coach ... infact i don't recall Bennett EVER beating a Griffin coached side ...

ses your logic makes no sense.

This was the biggest issue in the second half. Hodges stifled all attack by doing exactly this, overplaying his hand. He needed to be giving his halves a genuine option by being out the back of the block plays. Instead he was trying to take control and it just didn't work, you could see the frustration on Mcculloughs face.

In saying that, we desperately need a 9.... McCullough is just not the man for the job.

the point is Melbourne have raped us for 8 years. its like we are nsw and they are qld

Bellamy and his team have always respected us and all play their best footy against us which says alot

not to mention we did win one game....the one they would trade for all their victories against us.... in 2006

Also does anyone else think fast wingers are the go? If our forward get going like I think it will next year, we should have someone like Marmin Barba on the wing who can be an attacking threat and convert more attacking opportunities with his speed.

Awesome question. I think it was the latter. Macca did not have a good game. Lazy defense from him led to Hoffman's first try. His service is pretty slow at dummy half and has been for a while. There were also several times he struggled to get back onside. Not sure if injured or just worn out. Oh well, look at the positives: He steers the forwards around the park. . . and tackles pretty good. . . and stuff.
