Round 26 - Melbourne vs Broncos - Post Game Discussion

Disappointing result but hats off to the players tonight, they really dug in deep even though it really wasn't clicking for them tonight.

For mine, Melbourne in Melbourne is just a very tough beast and they have so many tricks up their sleeves, eventually they're going to find you out.

Brisbane had their opportunities tonight but were guilty of just trying too hard instead of remaining composed and constructing the set.

Defensively too, they just weren't that good but jesus christ that passage of play to open the second half was just really impressive. They fought tooth and nail and I couldn't have been prouder.

It really is a shame that in the end, the game was decided by a hail mary kick at an out of position player and an intercept.

That sucks.

But the Broncos future...

Is looking very bright.

They'll take a lot of harsh lessons out of this season and they're clearly building. With the inclusion of one of the best talents in the game, the Broncos will regain their status as the top teams in the competition.

Mark my words.

Spot on and yes, future is bright.

If Barber was auditioning for the 5/8 position he just cemented his spot in the QLD cup.
For the most part the forwards matched it with Melb in defence but gee we lack go forward.
12 points was never going to be enough to beat Melb,
If there is no organisation in the middle you simply can't score points, Hunt, for all his improvement this year he couldn't organise the proverbial in a brothel. He can organise himself but that is where it ends.

Isn't that where u have an organising 5/8th 2 do that job?

Can someone explain why hodges was forcing Macca out of dummy half 3/5 tackles for the last 20 minutes? Was he giving him a rest or was he unhappy with his service?

Kind u understand Hodges' frustration. I was feeling it watching but that's where a leader needs to
help his teammate n let him know what's required. Noted macca got the shits n when he finally got back to dummy half he went right to Hunt instead of left to Hodges where I thought we had an overlap.

Just weren't composed enough with too many cheap turnovers, particularly from dummy half a handful of times, and poor fifth tackle options but they never stopped trying.

Also does anyone else think fast wingers are the go? If our forward get going like I think it will next year, we should have someone like Marmin Barba on the wing who can be an attacking threat and convert more attacking opportunities with his speed.

I think that Garbutt has potential, but we shouldn't be relying on players who have never played FG (M. Barba) to step up and do a job. We will never be on the level of $ouths and the Rorters if we settle with untested players (unless it is some absolute freak 18 y/o or something, a diamond in the rough). I'm not confident in the amount of faith being shown to Garbutt when he can't make the Melbourne squad, who let's admit it, don't have too many superstar props in their team.

Why wasn't Maccas try a penalty try or Hoffman in the bin

Maybe because we were the opposition ...

having said that i think the on field refs were pretty good tonight. the forward pass call against us was probably 50/50

Also T Harris penalised twice in a row in the dying stages of the game for hanging on too long . Send the **** to the bin and get it out of the game.

Since Griffin started a head coach he has a higher winning percentage than Bennett. this logic can go on all day, and Bennett barely wins any of it (since Griffin actually became a head coach)

By how much Foordy? Couldn't be too much, I'm guessing. Griffin lasted one more game than Bennett in 2011. Similar in 2012. Knights made it to a PF last year so Bennett gets points there. Both miss the eight this year.

I have only seen a little bit of him in Q Cup, but from what I've seen he looks good.

Why are you posting at me a crybaby picture?

I got what I want. Griffin is gone and Bennett is coach.

I think he'll be a good addition to our side, especially over the likes of Lowrie and Stagg, but we need other options as well. Molo looks like a decent prospect, but he's still green for a prop.

There's a rematch of last week this Sunday. Anyone interested in him should watch it as last week there were 4 Wynnum defenders on him every tackle. (Game is at Wynnum because they won. Yay! - Hope they can repeat). Granville should be playing again too (even though he's not listed again).

from memory, it is about 55% winning percentage to Griffin to about 50%

I thought the forward pass call was spot on. Looked marginally forward to me and crucially to me it looked like Copley apologized rather than blew up about it. Pretty sure he thought it was forward.

Not necessarily directed at you mate. I've just noticed a few posters giving Griffin a send off. I personally don't doubt his dedication and effort , whether he was the right coach for the job is another question .i Posted that posters should show class , dignity and respect for someone who has been a dedicated coach for our club.you replied "no" thats why I posted the crying baby.

I agree mate ...

He is definately not the right coach to take us into the future ... but he has given everything for this team.

in fact with a career winning percentage of 55%, most other teams would not have sacked him, i also read the other day that the only reason he got sacked by us is that Bennett was a free agent.

We needed Hoffman tonight and that is all I want to say about this game.

Unhappy with the service is how I saw it.

Rightly so as well. McCullough's dummy half work was shithouse.

Storm were just to good in the end and we made basic errors and let ourselves down in the first 20 minutes and got ourselves on the back foot. Very proud of the effort they put in tonight as the Storm could've easily won by a lot more but we stuck to our guns, never gave in and fought to the death and made a game out of it.

Now we've got to cross our fingers and hope Parra and the Warriors lose.
