POST GAME [Round 3, 2022] Broncos vs Cowboys

It isn't necessarily weakening centre though because Lee is a pretty good back up option, he did play origin after all and has won a premiership there.

And if Herbie really smashes it at FB, it might well sort out a bucketload of problems moving forward as well, especially given we have Mariner coming through who looks to be a really, really special centre.

respect your opinion, but Herbie at centre has been a total standout so far this season and shifting him on a gamble he could be good at fullback could actually weaken the team. Lee is serviceable at best, and if not for an outlier season last year nobody would even consider him first grade material, while Mariner is again a literal kid… if Cobbo isn’t even first grade material yet then imagine how far off Mariner is.

remember, last year we had everyone except Haas have a turn at fullback and the coaching staff who know Herbie inside out still didn’t think he was worth a shot at the back… if they didn’t last year then I’m not sure why it would be any more enticing of a proposition this year.

There's no sugar coating it we were downright bad. The Cows ran harder, tackled harder and beat us in every area of the game. We never even looked like getting into the game.

The 1 million dollar question... WHY?? What happened.

Sometimes you just have these games where its just not your night and there is no real reason why. Most teams will have at least one game like that a year. However for me i think it was a hangover from the last two weeks.

The boys have had two tight wins and starting to receive some hype and have just gone out there today expecting to win and for things to come easy. The best thing for them now is to go home and look in the mirror and realise they haven't achieved shit, teams still see us a joke and the only way this changes is to put 100% in every week and win games.

For me it's not panic stations yet. But next week against the warriors becomes absolutley huge. Its a winnable game and another performance like tonight and Kevie starts to get very hot under the collar.

Tonight was strike one for this side. We aren't going to win every game but our losses have to be better then that. Had we have lost week 1 and 2 there wouldn't have been mass dissapointment as there was improvement from last year. This game was a big regression from round 1 and 2.

Lets hope today was an anomaly.

I know why we lost:

I have to go back to work tomorrow after three weeks off

I’m sure Brisbane can pay me $70k a year to not work and we’ll go undefeated.

Win-win

for the Storm or doggies because he wasn't that good for being around awhile
He’s a solid clubman. Was solid at the knights too. Definitely wouldn’t be a permanent option but he’d get you through a season.

I don't typically like to stick the boot into the coach when it can be avoided, but I have to say Kev bares something like 90% of the responsibility for today's result. The team was severely undercooked, looked sluggish and exhausted real early, his bench usage was amateur hour and he continues to pick players that are just not up to it like Turpin. When you've got players like Staggs and Reynolds performing that poorly, it says a lot. The gaffe showing at the presser was just the final slap in the face. It isn't panic stations yet but his stocks took a big hit today.
Future brains trust at Red Hill 🤔🤔

Forget the name of the rule, but if you give the opposition 10m to catch the ball you're ruled back onside. You can hear the official in the clip give Dearden the OK once Cobbo catches the ball.

The bigger issue was the lack of a held call which never seems to be consistent.
Yeah ,,, thought Cobbo's feet came off the ground at some point which is automatic held call.

I think he ticks every box apart from the ball playing but you look at some of the great fullbacks over the past years like Slater, Tedesco, RTS, Minichiello ball playing only came to them later on their running game was the strong point which Herbie has down pat and can only get better by being more around the ball.
Cobbo has looked most comfortable at centre then any other position he has played, ATM he looks like a player thats learning to play on the wing which isn't helping him with Kotoni playing poorly.
If Kevvie can get Slater in to give Herbie some pointers I think we could solve a big problem.
Getting Slater in to teach him is learning on the job though... the decision should've been made during preseason.

If Kevvie's decision was Tesi then he has to live with it... If Kevvie's decision was Tesi, with Isaako and Arthars as depth, then he shouldn't have let the back office sell them.

At the moment we only have Tesi and Mead that have played fullback consistently... we've got potential options in Herbie, Cobbo, etc. but they would be stabs in the dark, because we haven't seen them play the role consistently.

If Kevvie decides to change his fullback 3 rounds in, it is no different to what he did last year with the 6 jersey, except this time he doesn't actually have players that have played in the 1 jersey all that much.

Oh I completely get where you are coming from, Herbie has been an absolute shining light but desperate times and all that.

Paix ran twice last night.

He played 80 minutes so that's a positive.
It's not so much the lack of running that makes Turps bad, it's his lack of fluidity when stepping out of dummy half and passing. How can our forwards be expected to get a roll on when Turps is so clunky? A lot of the time they have slow down or stop completely to catch the ball because he either hasn't gotten to the correct speed before passing or hasn't passed accurately enough.

And this is before mentioning his poor pass selection and inability to pass with speed or length.

Negative. This one is on me - I tipped the Broncs. I’ll tip against them every week for half that cash…

It is a risk without a doubt and should have been a preseason thing but moving Herbie to fullback right now with no time in the jersey is already an improvement on what Tesi is dishing up.

Can Mam play fullback?
The dude would be a gun but it’s the same issue if not worse… Cobbo dominated Q-cup in that position and is not adequate enough let alone Ezra who is a gun don’t get me wrong but his defence is piss poor and he hasn’t played fullback.

I'd play Billy at 9.

Farnworth had another good game. Never stopped trying. That's the type of mentality you want. Staggs needs to get involved like Herbie does. Not sure he has that mentality though. Sad!

Dearden's is going to be a really good player I think. Bit of a shocker letting him walk.
