POST GAME [Round 3, 2022] Broncos vs Cowboys

Selwyn was even worse in his one trial there. I think he needs to go back the QCup for a stint.

Maybe it's time to experiment with switching Herbie and Tesi. Remember Herbie was penciled to replace Jamayne but injury gave Tesi his break. Otherwise it's Mead.

No idea what to do with Kotoni. His confidence looks shot.
Exactly. Cup.

He's an empty shell of the player he was right now

I thought there were two key differences between both teams.

In attack the Cowboys played with plenty of structure which allowed them to get through their sets effortlessly as the players understood what was required of them. Meanwhile the Broncos could rarely capitilise on their plays because the players appeared to be lost in their roles.

Then the biggest difference was the defence. The Cowboys line-speed was unbelievable, they've taken a page from the Panthers hand-book where they're daring the referee to penalise them and they seldom would. If you get the chance go back to Granville tackling Cobbo in-goal and notice how he's 2m offside before the referee calls go. They were testing the official all afternoon and kudos to them since that's the meta right now. It's just a matter of whether you have the fitness to pull it off which the Cows did.

The problem with this is that you have to have the ref on your side to get away with it. We were penalised 3-4 times in the first half for just thinking of having some line speed, and it gifted the Cowboys easy exits out of their end.

Ok great.

Literally no one else class enough left on our roster to play fullback in the meantime cause we just released one

Its an issue. We do have options. Mead and Herbie are 2 of them. Mead would be fairly solid i reckon but nothing ground breaking. I still have my own ideas on who to bring in but i cant see it happening.

Brisbane were only penalised once for off-side, you have to be able to cop a couple on the chin like the Cowboys were prepared to. (4-1 against the Cowboys)

Extending kevie was the first real blunder DD has done, we look like the worst drilled/structured team in the comp.

Here's one for the conspiracy theorists (paging @Morkel )

This was yesterday. Following day, Broncos lose and Panthers are the last remaining team to be unbeaten in 2022.

Hess was out in the first 5 minutes. Embarrassing to still get rolled against 16 players.
Not making excuses for us, as we don’t deserve them. We were outplayed, out classed, out enthused. Everything.

But we lost Riki not long after they lost Hess, and for mine, a back rower is harder to replace than a prop, especially in defence.

Drinkwater?

Some Broncos defence is the same as having sex in a canoe.....
Fucking close to water!!!

Bad joke ...for bad defence
or for a joke of defence.

Isaako in the pre-season and against the Rabbitohs, he looks like he has turned a corner and will get back to being the Isaako we all know and loved.

He had a bludger past couple of years, but when you see the interview he did with the NRL over what happened with his father, it's no wonder why his footy was affected. The bloke would rock up to training and sit in his car and break down. But it looks like he has finally made peace and has accepted it and is moving on. I was expecting him to have a big year this year.

For mine, Broncos should have stuck with him and gone in the market this year for a fullback to take over for next year.

I've never really rated Tesi all that much. He certainly isn't our answer at fullback.
so isaako can get some grace for his dad but tesi can't ?

Drinkwater?
You gotta think that he is unhappy in his current situation. He is good enough to play first grade for a few clubs out there. Those sort of players don't labour away in Q Cup in the modern day game if an opportunity arises elsewhere. He could easily walk into FB or 5/8 at the Broncos. Anybody know his contract details?

He's signed until the end of next year for the Cows.

I'd give Niu another 3-4 games . Get his confidence back.

How good would it be for our attack if Cook was hooker. Actual go forward and options on both sides. Reynolds must be so pissed off. From Cook, Walker and Mitchell to this. Nevertheless where was Aray's leadership when we really needed it.

We had line speed first 2 games. Where did it go?

Cows made us look second rate in every area of football. Such a big big disappointment (I was going to say huge) after Rds 1 & 2.

respect your opinion, but Herbie at centre has been a total standout so far this season and shifting him on a gamble he could be good at fullback could actually weaken the team. Lee is serviceable at best, and if not for an outlier season last year nobody would even consider him first grade material, while Mariner is again a literal kid… if Cobbo isn’t even first grade material yet then imagine how far off Mariner is.

remember, last year we had everyone except Haas have a turn at fullback and the coaching staff who know Herbie inside out still didn’t think he was worth a shot at the back… if they didn’t last year then I’m not sure why it would be any more enticing of a proposition this year.
This is actually wrong.

Farnworth was selected at fullback around the middle of season 2021. That plan went to shit though when we had a winger injured in the warm up, Farnworth was shifted out to play on the wing and Niu was parachuted into fullback.

This was after Niu had shit the bed starting the year in the centres and had been dropped to cup and Isaako was doing Isaako things for a number of weeks in a row, so he’d also been dropped.
