PRE-GAME Round 3 - Broncos vs Bulldogs

The mental is a huge issue with this team, and any future recruitment, regardless of how good they are, must focus on strong willed and above all else resilliant characters.
We have too many with confidence issues as it is and definitely shouldn't be adding to them.

I'm pretty resigned to not watching another game all year if we lose to these clowns. It really will be absolute rock bottom.
I commisirate, I missed the last game due to commitments and after hearing the score couldn’t bring myself to watch the replay.
Which is troubling for me because put simply I couldn't be bothered and that’s never happened before.

That said, we are rock bottom because we are spooners and have lost the last 13 - so the only way out of this mess is up and to start winning.

I have every confidence that process will begin Saturday arvo at 4:30pm -because if Kevin Walters wants to be an NRL coach it has to.

This may be our best chance at getting a win, but it is the same situation for the Bulldogs. They're coming up against the reigning wooden-spooners who are on their record-running losing streak. They will be pumped up for a big game and know how to beat us - high-percentage possession, wait for us to drop our heads and then move in for the points.

Conditions look to be about perfect for Milf and Croft. A failure here would be disastrous for them both.

Lol. I thought the game was today - conditions look to be good tomorrow as well though tbf.

Yeah as a bronco fan I never even usually check the draw, just assume it’s on Friday night.

Win or lose, both outcomes will have their positives.
Obviously a win is good for moral, and we go into the toughest stretch of our season with a bit more confidence.

A loss will light a fire under the entire team and heads will roll.

win/win.

But what happens if those heads are replaced with further headless bodies?

In addition to possesion etc, the other thing needed is field position, more so now with the new 6 again rules than before.
In the 2000s field position used to be a big part of our game, and part of the dominant qld sides, with lockyers boot (in origin locky, thurston, smith and cronk) often keeping us in games despite being beaten in other areas.

Because our defence is poor we can rarely defend our line so it is important we play the game in their end of the field, but because of our predictable kicking game and passive line defence we spend most of the game in our own half.

Although we had the passive line defence in 2015 and 2016, our goal line defence was solid enough to hold out teams and we could score from anywhere on the field (which we cant do now).

A kicks only as good as it’s chase as they say. I’ve seen good kicks have absolutely no pressure on them this year which has been disappointing.

You're exactly right... our signature defensive style (allow metres up the middle, but control the outside and then defend our own line strongly) is the single WORST way to defend in the 6-again era. Middle defence and tightening up the ruck is all that matters.

Teams absolutely roll us through the middle, and then once they're at our line, a simple crash ball is enough to put a forward over more times than not.

We can't defend our goal line, and through poor ruck defence and poor kicking, we can't keep teams away from out goal line either. Pretty dire situation, hope we see some serious improvement soon.

Oh our kick chase is woefull too. I mean, last week i think it was croft (it could have been milford though as i am not 100% sure) put in a blinder of a kick that held up just before the dead ball and we only had mead chasing.

Because mead was going full steam, he was easily stepped and then the fullback carted it back 20-30 metres up field.

And our mid field bombs to provide hang time to chase are pointless when we are off side and fucking jog (at best).

Kevvie steals from Seibold, actual music played at training:

I agree about our kick chase, Milf is partly to blame again. Most competitive halves will be leading their own kick chase. Milf just puts them up and then thinks that his job is done.

I did love watching Riki belt Gutherson the other week though.
