At the amart all sports in Queen Street they have Broncos jerseys for sale alongside the team they are playing as you enter. When I went in today they had Cowboys jerseys next to the Broncos ones and I had to tell them they were playing the Roosters and the Cowboys are next week. Sad when an 18 year old customer outsmarts the whole staff.

Storm next week. Cowbs in round six. You might have to pop back in and correct them again, just in case they took notes...

Can you come up with a Tim Shines esque nick-name vertigo?

If Hodges plays it would be a bit of a worry considering he is coming up against Jennings who could run right past him if Justin isn't fully fit.

I'll just call him Godric (Gryffindor) for now, his sorting hat needs to start recruiting better or he'll turn into Nearly Headless Nick.

On the other hand, Jennings is just as likely to run past the ball as he is to run past Hodges.

SBW and Jennings would really worry me if they went up against Hodges, Prince and Gillett. I'm actually hoping Hodges misses out, both for his sake (resting) and for Stagg to add some defence to that edge, provided Thaiday doesn't get moved there to start.

Putting Gillett in the centres is just stupid.

At the moment, he looks overweight and his lateral speed in defence is suspect, which probably partly explains his grabbing at runners instead of wrapping them up or hitting them. And I'm one of his greatest fans. And he also makes it openly clear he is and wants to play back row.

While Jennings may, as Coxy observes, run past the ball as much as players, I reckon his form is good and he will get quality ball and if he does, he will run rings around Hodges and anyone else for that matter if given half a chance.

The way Hodges pulled up lame last game looked pretty serious to me. It would be equally stupid to play Hodges as much as Gillett in the centres. Each are suspect in their lateral defensive abilities which means serious problems against Jennings in particular.

I just can't even contemplate Griffin playing either of them in the centres. Utter folly.

I hope he brings Hoffman into the centres and promotes Kemp, and plays Stagg as starting lock, with Parker into the prop rotation. I still believe Parker is better suited now to prop and has lost too much mobility for the back row

Yes, you've been saying that for like 3 years now :001_tt2:

rna - I don't understand your obsession with playing Parker up-front. It wouldn't change the current set-up other than whoever comes into the starting line-up at his expense. There are plenty of different locks in the game right now, Parker works the middle like he's a prop, except he's usually the 3rd guy to get a run and not the first or second (thank god).

I'd say like half the locks in the NRL right now are just extra props. Including some of the "better" ones, like Gallen, Jeremy Smith, Blair, Myles (before he actually got moved to the front row), etc. Moving Parkers away from there for someone smaller would just make us too light to start with IMO.

It really does expose my roots - the days of league when players were in specific positions for specific roles. In those days, props were props: straight, hard up the middle. Back rowers played up the middle and on the edges (they still do I guess) and the lock was a key runner with the halves but had the specific job of being the main cover defender.

I have such great memories of the brilliance in attacka nd defence of locks like Johnny Raper, Ron Coote and Brad Clyde. Parker is no where in cooee of those players as a lock of that school - which incidentally, we should have.

I confess I think the "modern" view of having a team playing multiples roles in multiple positions and on different sides of the field is one reason why so many teams with anything but near perfect discipline (like the Storm) screw up when key players stuff up. I reckon confusion reigns supreme in this style of game without a high level of discipline - something the Broncos lack atm.

You know what I mean ... "x" is named in the back row but defends or attacks in the centres, moves to prop for a while then runs on the edges, plays a bit on the wing, provides defensive cover for poor defensive halves ....

As for Parker, I see him as a great metre getter, excellent defender and he can offload - just what we need in the middle, as well as his experience. As well, we wouldn't get to see much of his bad habit of getting the ball wide then stepping into the teeth of the defence in the middle.

For mine, Parker is the perfect prop for us especially when our quality prop supplies are very thin. Very thin.

Stagg trained at centre today for a while

I dont think Hodges will play. I think Gillett will play centre and stagg right side SR which defensively should be OK as long as they communicate with
Prince and hold their line and not allow SBW and Jennings on the outside of them.

That's a good sign, likely means Stagg will start.
