POST GAME Round 4 - Broncos vs Cowboys

There was one in this thread, but I think it was tongue-in-cheek.

To the people who are giving Hunt a free pass because of the refereeing and lack of metres gained, get real, he had 5-6 kicks last night with all the time in the world, with minimal pressure, that were simply the wrong choice, or poorly struck.

If every superstar has 4 get out of jail free cards per season for bad performances, Ben's got none left.

Really expecting a massive improvement over the next fortnight.

It's four games of an under confident player with pretty valid reasons for being under confident.

He will improve, but if you need someone to tell you it's ok to put the boot in to make you feel better about it then fine, good work.

Has anyone suggested benching him? Ever?

I'm not sure where people get these ridiculous quotes from, literally nobody has seriously said Hunt should be demoted, the people criticizing him are just saying he needs to get a rocket up his ass, we all know he can be incredibly good.

Yes. But maybe as gordjw suggested it was perhaps tongue in cheek.

You are the one that said he should be dropped. Admittedly after the fact you claim that you were joking, yet there was nothing in the post that suggested you were.

People have obviously read that and not realised you were 'jokijng' and reacted from there.

Did the fact that I said "What's Ash Taylor up to these days?" not give it away? I couldn't have made it any more obviously a joke if I tried.

Broncos left side defence struggled still with Green's use of Morgan as an extra centre.

Coote was exceptional.

Broncos hit the wall and looked out of it with about 15 to go but I thought they rallied well and kept finding some sort of way to hang around.

Attack wise they were very ragged and looked a bit out of ideas. Last year they reacted better to situations which is what they practise Bennett loves appropriate reactions instability/stability. They're not doing that this year yet.

I get that the team may have been told to get it to him at all times for the kick, but surely, when we need a damn good kick, they need to make a captains call and move it to Milf or Macca. Or Blair, Thaiday, hell anyone.

Anyone who doesn't go to the game can't have a true understanding of hunts form.

He's my favorite player in that squad and has been a shining light for the last 2yrs.

But he's way, way off at the moment. I don't know what's bringing the form slump on, but it's really a thing. I'm not calling for him to be gutted, just am concerned for the guy, amd the team. We are really struggling because of it.

My comment about not being at the game is taking about his form off the ball not just with it. He seems really disinterested. Body language is a huge indicator of form. His is no where near his standard. Even last year when he had bad games his effort was huge. This year so far his effort isn't where it usually is. Even his communication, he's barely pointing, shouting for plays and looking for opportunities.

Maybe having someone like Hodges on his outside was a big reason to compete hard. Hodgo always pushing him to his potential. Now hunt is just passing it onto Roberts thinking, here you go. You can deal with it. I reckon switching roberts to the left could help bring hunt back into the game. He is playing his best when he's looking to run the ball. If he thinks roberts is a better runner, he's just palming it off to him. . I've noticed he isn't creating space for roberts either when he does it because the play just dies quickly. Hodges on the other hand was good at creating space for himself. Roberts isn't doing that.

All in all those who at hunt isn't playing that badly aren't at the game seeing his form on the little things. I've been going to every game some 2010 and i see a big difference in my favorite little dude. Hope it improves soon. I miss his championship attitude

tbh i am so sick of seeing hate towards ben hunt hee has been really good in thr opening rounds just his kicking game is off leave the poor bloke alone

Not to be a debbie downer, but that 2nd half was poor from us. I understand it's only Round 4 but for the past 2 matches we've lacked intensity and spark in the 2nd half, why? We were up for it in the 1st half but looked completely gone in the 2nd half.

Giving the ball to Blair on the 5th, dropped balls, penalties, poor kicking game & last tackle options etc. I don't understand the drop in attitude in the 2nd half, are we intimidated?
Are we unfit?
Are we just trying to hang on to a win because we don't believe in ourselves, our attack etc?

We aren't mentally tough like last season, I can see we don't entirely back ourselves, we aren't as confident but it's still early, round 4, but it needs to be fixed.

Hunt? He will come good, believe me.

Good win, I'm happy we got the 2 points, that's vital prior to Origin and I'm happy we stuck it to the Premiers without Oates & Reed, tremendous effort, we never ever give up & hung in there, got a bit lucky but I'll take it, what team wouldn't?

We are no where near our potential, let's hope we improve.

Hunt's kicking has always been below where it should be. On the plus side, his kick off catching has improved this year........

He'll be fine. Quality player down on a bit of confidence. Not worried at all. Come Round 14, everyone will have forgotten about his early season form.

As far as points go:

3 Milford
2 Milford
1 Milford

Outstanding little bastard.

Any call to demote Hunt is silly, and there really was none ( Unbreakable was clearly joking).
First, he deserves loyalty and faith after all he has done for us.
Second, we don't have anyone to challenge him.

Having said that, anyone that ignores his flaws has their head in the sand. He is a fantastic running half (and I really hope he regains that form, because we need it desperately), but that is where it ends. He is a 5/8, not a halfback, in the traditional sense that is. He isn't an organiser, he can't manage a game and his kicking is pretty atrocious, all hallmarks of a good halfback.

My greatest concern is that Wayne's footy style requires a good controlling halfback. Des Hasler's footy style for example, would suit our pair of halves much better. Something needs to change!

If hunt is struggling why not have him go dummy half on the last tackle and he can pass it to Macca to make the clearing kick. And I mean only when it's to be a clearing kick from inside our half.

Well obviously because I couldn't make it to the game my opinion is flawed, but some of the tackles he made last night were pretty good for someone that is so disinterestedly

But like I said, I was only watching on TV so I will defer to you as I wouldn't be can't have a true understanding of his form.

No one is ignoring his flaws, not sure why that even needs to be said. But anyway...

So you state that Bennett's game plan cannot work without an organiser and neither of our halves are organisers, so how did we get to within one tackle of a premiership using a organisation requiring game plan with a lack of organisers? Who was organising our games last year?

I'm sorry mate, but that makes no sense.
