Round 4 - Broncos vs. Storm - Post Match Discussion

Exactly......by the time he decided what to do, both halves were out of position. He's too slow
No! he looked behind to pass expecting to see his halves deep and set for the kick, instead they were standing flat with the ball, he can't pass to someone that's not there!

I raged when Prince ran the ball instead of kicking it long to maintain pressure. Mcc really shouldn't have passed it to Wallace in the previous play. Last 5 minutes was so painful.

You are wrong mate. Prince wanted quick ball to attack the line. Macca picked the ball up took a few steps looked and passed late and forward. The correct play there was clearly a fast delivery off the ground.

Damn... sounds like I missed out on an entertaining game.
Can someone tell me if were any chance to hold on after leading by 2?
So close to a nice little payout.

In the end, what a game. First of all we need to take a few things into consideration.
1. The Bronco's have only won 1 game in I can't remember when, sometime mid last year.
2. Last week, we could have played for another hour and till not score against the Roosters
3. Apart from the Dragons game where they really didn't through that much at us, our attack has looked, well, disjointed at best.
4. The Storm's Top 3 will go down as the greatest spine in the history of the game and maybe the likes we will never see again. It would not surprise me if Smith and Slater become immortals, they are just a class above anyone else.

And yet after conceding 3 tries with the Storms first 4 sets, we were actually in front, was well beyond expectations. Again considering our past and their past form. This is not a Bronco team of the past were they are littered with stars. This is a team of, well, nobodies.

I am so proud of their effort, yes we lost and yes that makes us 1-4, but it's the manner of the loss that greatly impressed me. Haven't seen "this team" since the early rounds of last year.

Is this the level of expectation for the future? Don't know, but we gave them a hell of a scare tonight and hope it stands them in good stead for the rest of teh season.

By the time he got around to looking up with the ball in his hands, Prince and Wallace had moved out of position. I'll have to watch the replay before changing my mind on this.

One thing I will concede though, is that between the 3 of them...... McC, Wallace & Prince royally screwed things up.

I think this was a possible scoreline but not at the moment we were up by two. There was 20+ on the clock and Storm are not the kind of team to die off. They came over and over again. Best bet for broncos by two was a second counter. But they couldn't do it in time. They were robbed twice and with my bronco goggles on the whole thing stank. Broncos needed those poor decisions to muster some pride, anger and determination.

attack the line on the last tackle? ....

wallace juggles a sitter and then passes it forward to Prince.

I felt the same way tonight as well, Norman really really underwhelmed me, so much so that I was considering wanting Hoffman to go back to fullback next week. Norman's defence was rubbish and in my mind he potentially cost us 2 tries, the slater kick and the last try of the 1st half I think. I've been more on the hesitant side of wanting Dugan, but based on tonight, it has definitely made me sway towards wanting Dugan asap.

I only managed to watch the second half, but I thought Normans general game and kick returns weren't too bad. His style of running is not as explosive as Hoffmans and he takes longer strides, but he definitely ran it back strongly imo. Usually he would just fall into the tackle but from what I saw he is improving by leaps each game. As for his defence, it's probably just as bad as Hoffman if he were at the back. I'm disappointed Norman has gone with the Eels as Prince is definitely not assisting our future in any way.

In that case you are right but in another earlier instance it was as I stated and I think that is what other people are talking about. My mistake.

Attacked well for 20 minutes, was nice to see forwards passing before the line and actually asking questions of the defence. That and quick passing made all the difference.

Unfortunately you don't get premiership points for trying hard, we need to cut out the stupid errors and start winning.

Are you thinking of the time where Prince dummied, attacked the line and was easily collected?

Because that was all on Scott.

I can live with this. Good performance.

At last, some nicely constructed tries against benchmark defence.

As others rightly observe, Macca's service way too slow.

Halves standing way to flat. Very bad. Edges n outside too bunched. This needs work.

Thought Maranta was good.

I know the one you're talking about, wallace gets a pass from macca out of nowhere and standing still and he jigs back around and gets tackled where the ball was played. But that was only on the 4th, on the next tackle Prince gets clear ball with 20m of air in front of him and instead of kicking it he foolishly takes the line on.

Prince had an ordinary night.
Hunt was the difference in getting the forwards moving and then it stagnated a bit when Macca came back on.
i am not a Wallace fan but how many of you guys were at the game tonight? Wallace started the moves on our left in attack. At the start of The movement for Hoffmans third try, Reed asked Wallace if he wanted him where he was and Wallace made him move 2 metres to get him in the right position. It all happened just before the previous play the ball.
Some of you seem to just want to find a fault with a player you dislike rather than observe the game for what it is, if they deserve criticism fair enough but when they have a good game acknowledge it and keep you own agendas for when they have a bad one.
I thought tonight we played a pretty good game against a team that not too many will beat this year, if not for the poor start we may have beaten them

It was a real shame that the game tonight end up being decided by an injury to Hoffman. That is why Cronk is so good, he saw the injury and went straight for the overlap on that side

I think the criticism of McCullough is a bit rough. I thought he actually gave us some good go forward in the forst 10 minutes. Not his fault when Hannant drops the ball & then we don't see it again for the next 10 mins. I think Hunt proved tonight that he has the vision to be our long term half. Has to get some more game time somehow.

Yeah, I noticed that, but credit to the boys for the way they scrambled.

I was only disappointed with the Slater try where he caught the ball in the middle of no less than 5 Broncos. After reviewing the game and stopping the image at the moment Cronk kicks, Slater was probably just onside. FML, Cronk and him are so well drilled...

That obstruction call was pretty bad though, and good on Locky to highlight it during half time, and I hope the Broncos make noise about it to the NRL, as it's yet another typical unsportsmanlike Storm trick from the Melbourne brain trust.
There is a lot to like about the way the Storm play, but there is a lot to hate about the fact that Bellyache won't stop at anything, ethical or not, for an advantage, which is why I have no doubt in my mind he was in on the rort.
