POST GAME Round 5 - Titans vs Broncos

Hunt was much better. Missed a couple of tackles so not doing his stats this year much good but his kicking was much better.in the first half at least and of course he had a good run through the line to score.

To be fair, it is early in the season and the boys just came off easily the game of the year that went into overtime. I think a slightly off performance is forgivable at this stage of the season, not come September/October obviously. It's a good sign to still be able to beat a current top four side in second gear.

another question is if niko isnt in side cause we cant use him well who would take his place. another foward perhaps?.

it is all probably mute becuase atm niko is helping us win games so i doubt wayne is moving him any time soon

Well yeah. The option is to throw another forward in there or persist with Niko and work on his defense. Wayne has stated this is what he going to do so it probably is going to be what he is going to do.

I think the interchange is still a long way from being sorted, but to be fair every team seems to be in the same boat.

It looks like Wayne only wants to use up one sub in the hooker role. Ideally we'd copy the Cows, start with Niko, then put Macca on at the 25 minute mark to play the rest. But Niko is not the sort to handle a softening up period. Do we start with Glenn at hooker, Thaiday start? That means Niko is out of the 17 altogether. Or just find a way to do what we're doing and get Macca back on?

all in all we are winning games and the one game we lost was by 1 point so cant complain to much we are at least doing enough to beat opposition .

as long as we keep improving for when we face the big sides like bulldogs. rabbits, storm. and remember we did beat the cowboys who in my oppinion shuold be premiership favourites with the line up they have. so were not going badly. we are winning ugly and thats enough at this time of year

It was a good solid win and that's all it needed to be. Not comfortable in terms of the scoreboard but comfortable in the general sense where we pretty much coasted. Roberts is definitely a dangerous player now and I was happy to see Hunt have a good performance.

I'm glad Kahu was there as his kicking was on tonight but I hope he isn't doing.himself more harm trying to play injured.

Still have alot of improvement in us. 5 rounds in the most important thing is the 2 points.

Take the two points and don't look back. I love winning but not the way we're doing it, excluding the cowboys game we've been average all season. It's frustrating as hell watching us struggle to close out games against average opposition.

Happy to get the win after a massive clash last week. I think the Titans are a much better side than they were expected to be.

That said, the continual late fade outs suck balls.

After the game we had last week I'm prepared to cut them some slack with some hindsight, it was a pretty draining game to back up from going well into extra time, Titan's playing well and probably good timing for an upset and that was on display from them tonight.

Still lots of room for improvement, but that is a good thing as well.

Too early for any news on Roberts?

I've had a few wines, but was that just a high shotathon from the Titans. I mean seriously after Gillett got hit , you'd be within your rights to go to the ref and say , ok so this is now acceptable. Next Ryan James hit up , good night nurse.

No problems for Roberts according to Wayne in the presser.

I would have liked to have finished with a try. Maxwell made the right call just letting time expire, the contest was over and both teams were just overly frustrated but gee I wish the Broncos had have done something with that extra minute just to drive the point home.

On first viewing it's fair to say that it was an inconsistent performance. The points and line-breaks came too easily at times and I think the boys clocked off a little. What I liked is that whenever the Broncos were in trouble, they'd go for the bomb, get a good chase and put the pressure back on the Titans. That's what I want to see more of. Against Penrith, when they were in a similar position they thought they could just arse around and go for chip kicks but they got it right here. In fairness too, it wasn't just bombs for the sake of bombs either. Penrith were onto that as well and made the boys pay, this time they aimed them properly and the Titans were caught out by the intensity of the Broncos line.

The attack was sloppy. I actually think the Broncos look their best when McCullough is leading the boys through the middle, supporting his forwards for offloads before going out-wide. When they went away from that formula and just tried to give it to Hunt or Milford off the ruck, the play looked disjointed. I really think it's up to players like McCullough, Parker, McGuire and Blair to spark something and for the halves to play off of it.

Finally, credit to James Roberts. He got the monkey off the back with a trademark try, battled on through a painful injury and when the team needed it he bought the team a penalty. I'm still not use to life without Hodges, anytime I see 4 I still think of him and he would have been proud of the way Roberts earned that penalty. Straight out of dummy half, looking for a quick play the ball, just like Justin would.

Yep, happy enough with that tonight. Backing up from the big game last week, and the Tits have found plenty of heart this year, it was a danger game and we came away with the 2 points so I'm happy.

I don't think there's cause for concern with either our disjointed attack or being tired towards the end of halves. Last year was exactly the same. The boys kept grinding out wins with our defence (which I feel does need some improvement), and we kept wondering when our attack was going to click into gear. Remember? We're top of the table and only the Dogs, Storm or Eels could join us by the end of the round. I will take ugly wins at this point of the season, just like last year. Just keep winning and the rest will take care of itself. Except the last 5 seconds of the GF. That will need improvement :p

This. Need to return to that structure ASAP.

Our halves looked like they had to make it up as they went. The play broke down too often. I think that's a great point BP.

Glad to walk away with the 2 points. Bennett said they played like they were tired and that's understandable. Dug deep and got the 2 points. Don't look back.
