POST GAME Round 5 - Titans vs Broncos

What... 60% possession? The attack needs serious attention. With that amount of ball, doesn't matter who the opposition is. With our strike power we should be putting on a lot more points, 5th round or not. If we didn't have the attacking roster we have then sure, make the excuses. I just don't think excuses are what is needed

No one is making excuses, they are being realistic though.

It is round 5, that's not an excuse, that's a fact.

Attacking flow takes time to gel and get back into after such a long break, even team looks the same as far as attacking flow.

Further to that, Bennett knows what he is doing, he doesn't want them red lining in the first half of the season. Leave that to the Titans and parramatta etc.

The fade out is happening not because of nikorima, but its also the time when wallace and offa are on in defense. Wallace made gear metres again last night but doesn't have the big hit ability or aggression blair has or dodds had. I miss dodds' defense

As good as Niko is in being an impact player, and it works for us in attack, when he is on the field and Macca is off that is when we let in tries. It happened against Penrith, the Cowboys and last night against the Titans. Macca either needs to be used differently so we can have him back on the park in the last 15 minutes or find a way for both him and Niko to stay on the field. We did that in round 1 against the Eels and didn't leak a 2nd half point.

Hunt, still terribly out of form. I know it won't happen, but pulling hunt off for a rest and giving niko a run in the halves might give him the break he needs to get motivated again. In some way I'm thinking he's coasting and not putting in because we are just "expected" to make the gf again. He has his eye on the big dance (lol) and not playing week to week. I mean, what else could he be playing for in the opening rounds? ? Especially since he has no origin on radar now. He needs to reevaluate his priorities. Just think his head isn't in it yet.

Would also keep macca on to stay in charge of the forwards. We don't have anyone in charge at the moment because players like moose blair and parker are off at the one point and they don't need marshalling, they are self sufficient.

I have to disagree even though I take your point about it being early in the season.

Last night - and I think BP above makes an important point, Milford and Hunt looked like they were making it up as you go. I saw Milford tackled with the ball far too often without any structures in place - no support runners or depth.

When the flow works like when we score those glorious tries, wow. Thing is, they are few and far between with the class we have

Bennett may be experimenting and we will see what happens, fair enough. The good thing is we keep winning which of course is what counts, but still, with Milf, Hunt and Roberts, and Boyd and Oates and ... 60% possession, it's a bit of a worry for me.

I think the alleged "fade-outs" are because our attacking structures are inconsistent, again, BP's point above is telling. We will see over the next few weeks

Last night was the first time I watched a Broncos game (in full) on Foxsports instead of Channel 9 (I have to sacrifice picture quality as I stream Foxtel through T-Box) and it was a much more enjoyable experience. The commentators comment on the game and there is no try-hard banter. It made for a less stressful and cringe worthy experience.

I've had a few wines, but was that just a high shotathon from the Titans. I mean seriously after Gillett got hit , you'd be within your rights to go to the ref and say , ok so this is now acceptable. Next Ryan James hit up , good night nurse.

No. You'd just obliterate him next tackle.

Personally I'd tell one of the forwards to aim their shoulder square at his knee next run. Hopefully you'll blowout his patella tendon.

I can't recall a game with so many high shots. Titans couldn't win so they tried to injure blokes.

Refs (who are paid by the very same NRL as the Titans players) sure looked after the Titans on that front.

If I adopt a cricket analogy, the Broncos remind me of a batsman who smashes a century on one day and then comes out the next day and wants to belt them around again without getting his eye in again.

We are trying to play like we did at the back end of last year without establishing a good foundation.

We're letting teams back into games when we go all harlem globetrotters.

We need to simplify what we are doing for a couple of games. Let a few balls go outside off stump. Push a few singles.

Absolutely agree 100%

i have been worried by thaidays impact and form this year so far, last night his ball running looked a bit better but i did notice on replay this morning he got caught a bit in defense with the ball being turned back inside.
im not suggesting he is no good or on the slide but i reckon its something worth watching over the next 6 to 8 weeks to get a real gauge on where he is at ( not so much for the rest of this season but the next)

You completely missed my point. Yes our structures aren't perfect but Bennett isn't going to show his hand to the rest of the comp in round 5 and give them 20 odd rounds to figure out how to stop them.

I agree with this. Thaiday was our least effective forward last night. He looks like he's making an effort but he is getting caught out in defence too often and in attack he seems to drop to the ground at first contact instead of driving forward for more metres.

For those observing that we are being scored against when KNik is on, I will throw up another possibility, it seems to be also matching up when Parker is off the field as well.

No, I got your point loud and clear. Maybe my approach is overly simple. If you have the strike power as we do, it's not rocket science: you get the ball to the playmakers who ought to have structure and support with depth. We showed we can do it with some glorious tries, then we retreat into some kind of shell - like last night with Milford getting tackled way too often with the ball and no support runners.

By all means experiment with lots of wonderful, innovative structures and set plays, but seriously, the basics of good football with players like Milford, Roberts, Oates, Boyd is for my simple mind, well, simple: give the ball to Milford and Hunt who either score with individual brilliance, or ideally, just then get the ball out to support runners with sufficient depth - like Roberts.

I mean, that's basic attacking football and every team plays it well or not, and every team has to defend it, well or not, now, in 3 months and during the GF.

For mine, we are not doing it enough nor consistently for the full 80. But as you say, it's early days. But at some point in time, it might get too late

I still don't agree, but that's fine. No offense, but I'll back Bennett to know when the best time is to showcase our attack, just like he did last year (Rabbitohs game).
