I like that team, Rally. Good stuff.

I like that team Rally, but i would certainly start McGuire

Ideally I would have Parker at 13, McGuire at 10, and bench Gillett.

While Gillett has been a success by and large so far, I think he's still capable of having an impact off the bench.

Unlikely to see these changes though. More's the pity!

How does playing shit from the bench get you a spot in the starting lineup though? That is exactly the opposite of how all adult sports are played.

He's playing shit off the bench because we're using him incorrectly, he was in his best form at the Roosters when he was starting and playing 60+ minutes a night, that's one of his strengths, his style of play doesn't really suit coming on for 15 minute spurts and just going all out.

But I guess we'll never know how useful he could be because everyone here knows everything about Rugby League

alright, lets focus on Strasser ... how is he going in the ISC, because if he isn't performing at a consistently high level, he doesn't deserve selection either

I actually haven't seen how he has gone this year but I have seen some stuff that shows he would do well in a Broncos jersey. This is why there needs to be an actual reserve grade comp though.

Does anyone know why Parker is playing front row when we have Kennedy and McGuire and Hannant and Hala?

What a douchey thing to say during a conversation where everyone is throwing their opinions around. I'm sorry, just for you I'll stop having and explaining my opinions on a place dedicated to doing just that.

My team

1: Barba
2: Vidot
3: Copley
4: Hodges
5: Maranta
6: Hoffman
7: Hunt
8: McGuire
9: McCullogh
10: Parker
11: Glenn
12: Thiaday
13: Gillett

14: Hannant
15: Oates
16: Hala
17: Kennedy

Reed has had enough chances and isn't performing to standard. I don't feel like our replacement halves are ready for this level and we should just stick with Hoffman for the time being.

Huh?

I'm simply explaining to you that there might be more to Kennedy than we're seeing, there's no need to get all depressed on me, it's all good man, I forgive you.

At the end of the day, everyone has their favourite players (like the Jack Reed love-fest last year which seems to have soured lately) and everyone has players they want dropped (like Maranta last year - which did my head in). People will push for their faves regardless of form. But everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I was responding to the sarcastic remark at the end about everyone knowing everything about rugby league.

I'm not sure what you're talking about to be completely honest, I understand people have certain players they like, and they're certainly allowed to like them.. I was just attempting to defend Kennedy a bit, with all the hate being thrown at him (Some from me, mind you). We won't really see how good he can be until around origin time when he might actually start some games.

If he starts 4-5 games during the origin period and dominates, we'll know that we fucked up by having him off the bench as a Hala type player.

I agree. Kennedy needs to start. I don't know why Parker is starting at prop when we have a guy who was pushing for Origin selection sitting on the bench. Unbelievable.

The question really is... how would Hoffman perform at ISC level (in a halves position), compared to Strasser, Paia'aua or even Nikorima?

I really doubt he would outperform any of them, except in defense maybe.

By no means am I saying any of them would be great, but I am seriously convinced it would be better for this team (including Barba), to have Hoffman in the 3/4 line, Strasser or any other reasonably performing ISC half at 5/8 and Reed out of the team (at least until he has more confidence in his shoulder).

My team:
1- Barba
2- Vidot
3- Copley (or Hoffman)
4- Hodges
5- Hoffman (or Copley)
6- Strasser / any other ISC half
7- Hunt
8- McGuire
9- Macca
10- Kennedy
11- Gillett
12- Thaiday
13- Parker

14- Glenn
15- Hannant
16- Oates
17- Wallace/Hala

I think there's merit in putting Kennedy as a starter, let him absorb the initial onslaught and with Hannant and Wallace/Hala on the bench, there's more than enough prop minutes to take Parker back to the lock position, moving Gillett to the left fringe and Glenn to the bench, where he can rotate the second row with Oates.
Advantage is we have a bench quite capable of covering any position on the field should injury strike...

Hooks playing favourites ....

... again.

Drop Reed, Slide Vidot in, Oates wing, Glenn to bench, Kennedy Starts.

Locky fulltime getting anyone up to scratch in the 6.

Porthoz the question is have we got any ISC halves on our books that are performing reasonably ... i don't watch enough ISC to know, but no one seems to be able to answer that question for me ... all i end up getting is "it doesn't matter how they are performing" and IMHO, that is a load of crap.

I understand Duncan P, did some good things in his ISC debut on the weekend so if he gets a few more games under his belt in the ISC, the in a few weeks if he keeps showing good signs he may be an option for us.

Please don't get me wrong, i want Hoffman back in the 3/4 line as much as anyone, but i don't see the sense in throwing one of our youngsters to the wolves if they are not ready, IMO that will do us more harm than good in the long run.

I love your lineup, Porthoz. It makes our bench a lot better and puts players back in their most effective position. Great stuff!

i wouldn't move Vidot either

I would drop reed, move Copley to left center, Maranta right wing (he has shown considerable improvement this year)

3/4 line of

2. Vidot
3. Copley
4. Hodges
5. Maranta

or if Hodges doesn't trust Maranta enough to pass him the ball (we all saw how frustrated he was getting last year) try switching Vidot and Maranta so Vidot is outside Hodges.

eventually if we find a 5/8 playing reasonably well in the ISC, then he gets selected and Hoffman moves back to the wing and get a 3/4 line of

2. Vidot
3. Copley
4. Hodges
5. Hoffman
