POST GAME [Round 8, 2022] Broncos vs Sharks

Seeing as everyone is getting praise, I'll counteract it with some criticism.

Jordan Riki hasn't been good this year, at all.

When he came back from injury last year he was absolutely immense, making 40 tackles per game, busting tackles, scoring tries, setting them up... this year he's just been a plodder. No idea what's happened to him.

He's shown a few glimpses. He reminds me a lot of Arthurs. Just there.

Oh yes, lets move TMM who has been our best fullback defensively for at least half a decade to cover a position that made some errors but none of which led to tries or points, and the tries that where scored by us had his hands all over them.

Look at the first try we scored with Staggs, Gamble attracted 3 defenders and made that entire play possible.

Errors are bad I get it but if the net result is positive it's still a positive, he does have alot to improve on but there is definitely a decent football player there to work with.

Not to mention he didn't even play any mind games to get into players heads and make them crumble, reminds me of Benny Elias.
It's about being proactive, not reactive. TMM has been decent, but you're also missing the several times he was out of position, TMM has shown he has class and ability, but as when he was previously in the NRL he is a 6, not a 1. I think we will get the most value out of him in the 6 jersey, and he has the potential to be a long term fix in that position.

I love when people bring up the "the error didn't lead to points so it doesn't matter" bullshit argument. It's the type of errors, like us attacking the line and he does a horrible kick being intercepted and giving up bulk territory, 2 weeks in a row. How about his chip kick into the in goal when we were trying to close the game out, our left side didn't even know it was coming, and didn't get within 15m of it.

Gamble is just bang average, and if he is our best option at 6 we are in a lot of trouble.

Am I the only one seeing that he is leading our line speed with reynolds out there and pushing from the inside allowing cobbo and staggs to manage their numbers in defence? And how poor our right side defence was when he was out?

I am not saying he is flawless but **** me dead. His attacking input will come. With walters and paix utilising the short side more (turpin never did this), I expect he and capewell's metres will go up. He does need to learn running lines at pace and he has shown he can, but when he can do this consistently he will be very good.

How many missed tackles are acceptable . 6 - 8 - 10 ?
Add in a fwd pass ,a dropped ball and a kick into the arms of the opposition . I`d say a mixed night .

He has dicks for fingers. Jordan Dick Fingers Riki. God he knows how to drop a pass. He better aim up or Piakura will be coming for his spot.

gamble was a bit rocks and diamonds but his energy and defence outweighs a few bad errors.

I stopped counting at 6 missed tackles .
Only a matter of time before a team exploits that frailty ...

Gamble 100% needs to improve but I really think whilst he makes errors and some bad judgements, his energy brings the best out of our team in attack and defence and he ruffles feathers. He pestered Moylan and Hynes every chance he got, it’s no coincidence they both played poorly. But also, the energy he seems to give to the players around him. If he can iron out a couple of those bad plays and errors then he is easily our best option at 6.

TMM needs to stay at fullback. His communication and ability to count the numbers in defence has been a huge reason for our improvement there in recent weeks. We got one try against us and it was from a grubber close to the line with our two markers offside. He had to rush up to attempt a tackle Because the forwards were offside. Haas should have run back to the fullback position instead of just standing there doing nothing. If that was any other player standing there like that we would be calling for his head. Imagine if it was flegler or kennedy? It was a bad mistake by Haas. All he had to do was go back another 2-3m and touch the line and he’s onside and he could have defused the grubber.

When was TMM out of position last night?

ouch. didn't think it was that high! I did see him annoy the shit out of Moylan and Hynes all night though.

When was TMM out of position last night?
when Moylan scored - TMM came rushing out of the line to put pressure on a loose ball, which is great, but he needs to remember he's the last line of d! moylan grubbered into an empty in goal and scored.

Just watched JT interviewing a few of the boys after the game in the sheds, few notes -

  • Herbie certainly sounds like he's off to the Dolphins. Didn't say that specifically, but just body language when asked about it indiciated as such.
  • Payne says he'll work with the physios during the week and hopes to play against the Bunnies next week.
  • Payne also mentioned that Te Maire Martin forced his way in to the team based on his performances at training, was apparently carving up the first grade squad when they scrimmaged the renegades.

When was TMM out of position last night?
When they scored for 1. He charged after a ball by himself on the 5th tackle, and when he missed he stood there instead of running back into position. I understand him trying to pressure, but he needs to know his role, and also when to try and rush back to his place. Also out of position on a few of their kicks. I'm not saying he is doing a bad job, he's doing well, but he's a 6.

I’m pretty keen for Mam to come into the team rather then Tesi return at fb. Obviously now isn’t the time but I could see a scenario where it is the right move in 8 rounds time.

Let's hope Mam lifts in ISC.

5 according to NRL but he wasn’t alone in missing tackles.
