POST GAME [Round 8, 2022] Broncos vs Sharks

What a great win. We can say we bombed a few tries but we can't say oh we were lucky sharks didn't blow this or that opportunity. Outside of tmm running halfway to China to pressure a ball leaving no one at the back, we held firm all game.

Thought everyone played well, gamble was a bit rocks and diamonds but his energy and defence outweighs a few bad errors.

I love Herbie, but at least twice he needed to pass. I get that sometimes the pass is not to advantage and I give him the benefit of the doubt, but Oates goes in to the corner on at least one of those breaks if given the ball. Get him in the video room.
Great discipline in the 2nd half to not give away 6 agains.
Sharks did have an off night.

I thought Klein was half decent last night. Didn't blow a heap of phantom 6 agains.... However, I was nonplussed on Flegler's penalty in the 16th minute after Capewell's break.

Still no idea what it was for...Flegler made a dominant tackle and got off quickly. The only thing it could possibly have been for was hand on the ball. Still, those types of penalties annoy the piss out of me.

Maybe they did have an off night but I am seeing a trend here, every time we win a game the other team is apparently having an off night, not executing well, etc

When Payne decides to dig into the line and ball play a bit, we look ten times better.
If Fleggs doesn't offload, Capewell doesn't score that try.
Surely our video sessions this week highlight the need to continue this. Hetherington also has the skill.
Now we have Reyno everything is looking so much sharper. Especially the shifts to our outside backs.
Massive defensive efforts last night.
A great win from the lads!

Completely agree, the way Payne was digging into the line and passing is not coincidence, it's good coaching, He has a nice pass too.

It's kind of reminiscent of Souths attack the last few years so I reckon Reno is having a huge say in our attack at training which can only be a good thing, he's really one of the smartest players in the game. He's someone we need to do whatever we can to keep at the club after he retires.

Was much happier with Flegs last night, 2 dumb penalties but has the talent to be very good if he controls himself so hopefully it can be coached out of him, the fact he didn't do any stupid aggro tackles is a sign he's taking feedback on board.

Payne has much better ball skills than we get to see. I find it a bit frustrating. He's the last player I'd want to criticize, especially for effort, but we seem to be barely tapping into his reserves.

Speaking of reserves, here he is passing and then literally jogging to thwart their fullback at full tilt:

That’s it, we forced them to look like they had an off night. Our defence gave them nothing on the edges, I haven’t seen them defend with that shape since what? 2016? Adam has really settled that right side, he really pushed from the inside so the rest had to cover less space. Adam also made some fantastic tackles.

Pass the ball Herbie

His potential is scary. He very well may be the best player in the game.

He’s still only 22

Expectations are a little unreasonable with Payne but I get it, because of how good he is he's held to a very high standard, but he is only 22 with 68 games under his belt.

I can't ask more of a young prop, play safe, error, penalty free football, give 100% every week, then as you mature look to throw offloads and ball play a bit, he's starting to do the ball playing part , it's pretty obvious that's a coaching directive and he does it well but you can't add too many strings all at once, that's what Seibold did and that's why he was a flop of a coach. Master one new skill, learn a new one next, his offloads are always quality he just doesn't do enough of them, he's a bit too conservative, but give him another 1-2 years with good coaching and Reynolds by his side on the field to coach him in game on when to do what plays and he can go to another level still.

I found the issue with herbs, it’s a condition.

He’s got 11 offloads this year. Most in the team. He’s developing for sure.

I know I'm going to sound like a sore winner (and a broken record), but I felt that our ability to play the full 80 last night had a lot to do with not being penalised / 6-again'd out of the contest. I was only half-watching on my phone while working but whenever there was an error or infraction it seemed like we got at least a fair number of calls, and in the times we were muscling up in defence we weren't phantom penalised for the tiniest things (that the opposition was getting away with). It allowed us to keep the pressure on them and therefore come out on top in the fatigue stakes.

He seriously is, the footy IQ he has is genuinely top tier too, he predicted that break before anyone else, and after Kennedy got tackled he didn't just chill, he ran straight back to centre field to cover the next tackle, that's pure competitive drive you can't teach. Whoever is working with our forwards deserves a lot of credit, Carrigan has looked the best he has in years, Jensen has really come on, Palasia for all his flaws is playing as every good no name prop should, Kennedy is making an impact, Flegler has cut about half the rocks out of his game which is quiet the achievement.

Hopefully it burns up Parker every time he watches our forwards getting better, he's one bitter asshole.
