POST GAME [Round 8, 2022] Broncos vs Sharks

Good to get the two points but f**k me gotta stop leaving so many points on the field. Also have to acknowledge the sharks were slightly off their game but that was largely due to the pressure we applied in defence.

Seeing what a difference a genuine halfback makes to the team really makes me think we need to let one of our big name forwards go and secure a LONG term halfback. It's just incredible what a real half does for the team.

TMM hasn't played in over 1000 days and he's producing these performances imagine what he'll be like with a full season under his belt. Listening to his interview he seems like a really switched on bloke and appears to have some real class about him.

I love what Corey Jensen brings to the side. He's a keeper. Fleger looks to be hitting his straps and oatsey continues to play a big role for us.

I said it in the pre game and ill say it again, our big name guys are starting to play to their potential and thats the key. We look like as a team we are starting to gel and actually look like we've spent a pre season together and train day in day out together rather then just 17 randoms.

Still plenty of work to do but hope they enjoy it.

When you use team work and pass the ball we give ourselves chances , someone tell that fucking Herbster to get with the plan . Great effort boys , and you can suck on that one Scumo.

Something wasn’t right. Maybe Covid.
Staggs was being lazy and the young Cobbo was being impacted.

Staggs got smashed in the media and started showing up again. Staggs had a pretty turn around when a NSW centre position became available.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Turpin ask for a release in the not too distant future. He must realize his time with the Broncs is over at least. If the Dolphins or some battler like the Titans or Bulldogs want to have a crack at him than let them.

Great win despite some dodgy calls from Klein. Our defence really turned up tonight especially near our try line.
I thought Klein was OK until the final 5 mins when he obviously got a "make a game of it" in his earpiece.

There was a play when it was going to be captained challenged because it was obviously wrong call but sharks took a quick tap and Klein refused our captains challenge because "can't do it now, play has gone on" despite players in front with the top like gambles call back. Was such an obvious "wouldn't happen at 50-0 to sharks" type call

Thoughts:

* Reynolds was great again.
* Gamble is average at best, 3 or 4 kicking/passing errors.
* I thought Flegler and Kennedy really stepped up and really covered for Haas while he was off.
* Our edge defence was way way better than it has been.
* Overall defence was much better.
* I don't know what Oates has done to Herbie, but jeez what does it take to get a ball off him?
* We should have won by 20, we bombed so many tries.
* Second time in 2 weeks, we've won the second half, that is fantastic.
* Still not sold on the Paix/Walters combo. Worked 2 games in a row though, so what do I know.
* Staggs will play origin this year.

Fantastic result by the boys.

Someone was trying to rip into me bcos I talked about fullbacks talk in defence a couple weeks ago.. TMM has shown why IT IS SOOOO FUCKING IMPORTANT from a fullback, capewell even mentioned it and now we can see the difference

I'll admit we've had worst games under Klein (that game against Manly a few years ago where Darius Boyd had a try disallowed then then DCE scores an almost identical one at the other end which is allowed and then Manly got 10 penalties in a row).

That charge down call near the end to hand the ball back to the Sharks was a joke and some of the 6 agains and penalties that both teams received were just not required.

With Klein I always seem to feel that nearly every 50/50 call with him seems to go against the Broncos.

Its been feeling like that for a while now, for every ref.

This was actually one of the best reffed games in a while. That last challenge ignored not withstanding.

Paix isn’t fit enough to play longer than he does currently. Not sure if he just doesn’t have the motor or having some lingering Covid effects. When he came off in the second half looked like he was about to have a heart attack.
Still miles faster than Turpin. He is a sloth after 20minutes
Does herbie have a neck injury? Because it dies not appear that he can turn left and see oates out there waiting for a pass.

That break from reynolds and TMM should have resulted in a try, but herbie had the horse blinkers on again.
I need to see the replay but thought the dummy was the right call? On the inside, Hynes had TMM covered and I think Oates was well far behind Herbie to draw and pass?

One who has gone under the radar is hetherington, thought he was brilliant especially in his second stint

staggs had a point to prove and it’s great to see he has the ability to step up

cobbo’s improvement should not be lost, but he needs to learn to take the tackle.

Big test next week, we seem to struggle whenever we have the opportunity to go 3 straight, so it will be a big indication of where are at

It’s been almost exactly 3 years since we last won 3 in a row (in the same season).

We still looked miles better with paix on but obviously the coaches dont think his fitness is there.
Before he came off Paix was gassed and obviously struggling, lingering behind the ruck and having trouble getting back on side. Looks like it's going to be a fair while yet before he gets the match fitness to play big minutes.

I want some communication between Herbie and Oates. It's Herbies job to set Oates up 100%, but I want to see Oates screaming for it. "On your left, on your left" or something.
Oates lost his voice years ago screaming at Herbie since 2020. After a year of Shibasaki dropping the ball before even having a chance to pass to Oates he gets replaced by a guy who never even looks like he is going to pass. It’s a bugbear of mine that we underutilise Oates and our coaches haven’t fixed it.

What was he doing for that Moylan try though? I was just as confused as he looked.
He was not square at marker .
So was technically offside . I think the Ref told him as well .

Just apropos the ref, a lot of Broncos tackles were ruled as "surrender" tackles, whereas Sharks tackles received the standard "stand now" speed up call. Such subtleties can shape a game and this was quite obvious IMO

I don't mean to be a sore winner but watching it back, if that moment when Klown denies Reynolds the right to challenge the "charge down" in the 2nd half isn't clear evidence of even a subconscious bias against the underdog teams then that will do me. He didn't even give Reynolds time to watch the replay.
