Round 8 - Broncos vs. Rabbitohs - Pre-Game discussion

That'll do me, perfect opportunity to give Strasser or Nikorima / Duncan a chance, and he gives it to Hodges, rofl.

Rabbitohs 13+

On a positive note, Hodges never puts up high bombs when he kicks the ball. He loves little grubbers and that could benefit us..

McCullough has to take more responsibility in the kicking department. I am hoping Griffin has told him that.

Not sure why he hasn't been kicking much (and I don't mean the horrific grubbers he puts in, but the long kicks). He almost had a 40/20 against the Eels, and only a miracle play by Hayne prevented both our scrum AND the goal line drop out. He hasn't kicked since, I believe.

Hodges defending against Burgess...that's going to go down well.

does burgess really bother running at little guys out wide? all i can think of with burgess is straight up the guts taking on the biggest bloke in the other team. thats his game and thats why he's so respected in league.

im really not worried. this will go alright i reckon and we'll win tomorrow.

Missing a tackle is unforgivable for any first grade footballer worth a damn

Fixed it for ya.

Is that why Reed gets a free pass each week? Tackling for him is optional. Honestly, halves need to tackle sure but so does every other player in the team.

Instead of Hodges, how about shifting Macca into the halves and having Granville start?

maccas been pretty good this year why weaken the 9. granvilles clearly not up to 80 mins as an nrl half so we'd have to carry another bench hooker as well. shuffle shuffle.. changing things that have been working

hodges to 6 is probably the least disruptive to our team of the moves you could make. hes not really your traditional "centre" these days anyway and it means copley goes back to his favoured spot and maranta comes in who's proven he can do the job on the wing so far this year.

This is why I don't think we'll ever be a major threat with Griffin at the helm - he never wants to take risks, always plays it safe.

Yawn.

i am just remembering when hodges played "fullback" in attack for a few games last year and came into the line as that extra playmaker and it worked really well. thats basically what im expecting more of from him as the 6 and why i think it can work. if barba can sneak around behind him could be deadly

im really not worried him moving one spot in in defense but i guess we'll see hey.

Yeah I'd personally much rather see an actual 5/8 get a crack from the lower grades.

My Gillette comment was just a wild stab in the dark at guessing how Hooks interesting coaching mind works.

What worries me is how likely that scenario could be...

We don't want Hodges in the halves. We want him out in the Centre, sticking his fend down Goodwin's throat. It's time to blood a new half. One defeat is worth the risk.

I'd happily cop 2-3 if the risk is worth the payoff.

If Hoffmans out it is more likely to be Strasser (NRL.com would have had to have some basis for the report that he was a likely inclusion.)

Can anyone answer why Kodi played the 9's as opposed to Strasser? Given he's played games with the squad, albeit 9's, I'd think he's "next in line" rightly or wrongly.

On Hodges apparent move to 5/8th, I hope and pray that this is simply a smoke screen to keep the focus off someone else. Who's apparently replacing Hodges?

IMO if we were playing a crappy side I think griffin would have gone with a young guy in the halves but because it's Souths and they have a massive pack I think griffin has played it safe.

I am happy for hodges to play 5/8.

Like at least one other poster, the thought of Hodges running the ball back makes me shudder given his dodgy achilles. His natural instinct is to step, and at full speed, I foresee disaster. Same if he has to try to chase down Inglis. Hodges is great in short bursts at cover defence but long runs really worry me.

Hodges at 5/8 seems more sensible as he really plays a similar game at centre, especially running from dummy half and stepping, fending, and his offloading would be great on the edges, especially with Barba behind the line in support.

My major concern is Sutton and Sam Burgess running on the edges, especially if they offload. I actually don't think we will have a problem controlling the middle as long as we don't fantasize about trying to roll over the Souths pack.

For mine, our best game is when our forwards pass before hitting the line and getting the ball moving. The combination of Barba and Gillett just has to happen again this game. It's absolutely lethal.

As a number of us posted before, our kicking game to Inglis is really important. No sitters into his breadbasket with 20metres before our chasers get to him or he will shred us, and equally, the Bunnies pet play of giving Inglis the ball at speed close to our line. Fatal unless we move up fast on him as soon as he is spotted waiting for the ball.

It would also be so good to see some more cross field kicks to Vidot and Copley.

I see a broncos win by 12

i dont know im happy for hodges to be 5/8. i think he can really add to our attack and hes a solid defender in the middle. only concern will be the defense on the edges now with sutton and inglis. all in all im more happy it goes ot hodges then a youn 5/8 i fully understand why ppl want to blood a young player though.

my only concern was its a anzac day game against a qulaity side its gonna be a huge crowd. sometimes throwing a young gun in those situations and epecting them to perform miracles can really crush there confidence. but we will just have to wait and see what happens. at the very least it will make our attack more lethal
