Round 8 - Broncos vs. Rabbitohs - Pre-Game discussion

i dont know im happy for hodges to be 5/8. i think he can really add to our attack and hes a solid defender in the middle. only concern will be the defense on the edges now with sutton and inglis. all in all im more happy it goes ot hodges then a youn 5/8 i fully understand why ppl want to blood a young player though.

my only concern was its a anzac day game against a qulaity side its gonna be a huge crowd. sometimes throwing a young gun in those situations and epecting them to perform miracles can really crush there confidence. but we will just have to wait and see what happens. at the very least it will make our attack more lethal

... and Sam Burgess if he's playing

well sam burgess can run over any defender on his day any way . but ur right for us to win we will need a huge defensive effort on our line. because unfortunatly we dont have the kicking game to keep oppositions out of 20 for long periods in the game

Inglis close to our line really worries me. He scored there so easily last time we played them.

And I still remember his hit on Hoffman

It's going to be very interesting if Hodges has a blinder. Griffin will ignore it at his own risk.
If Hodges kills it and the only alternative being considered is Hoffman I hope Hodges stays at 6. Hodges can play a similar role to what he already does (not ideal for a five-eighth but certainly no worse than Hoffman), Hoffman can return on the wing where he is most effective, pushing Copley to centre where he is most effective.

Why is everyone so worried by playing our most experienced and most confident back at 6 for one game.

i agree fully but i got a feeling that griffin doesnt like upsetting players that much unless he has no choice. i could be wrong but from outside lookin in it seems he doesnt really have the courage str or whatever u wanna call it to drop or move players if there not performing. i think ultimately it might be his downfall.

you do need to know how to be a good man manager but u also need to know when to put a rocket up a players ass and not be scared to drop players as well. bennett was a prime example of this especially in his hay day. although he has softened a bit since

Might be more than one game
Personally I would've loved to see one of the youngsters play but I I have no intimate knowledge of their progress. I can understand why you would put an experienced hand to fill the position. Will mean Hodges will get his hands on the ball more often.

I sort of hoped Hodgo would be our 5/8 for this season. For mine, those giant first 3-4 steps can be so dangerous when he runs at the line. He covers so much ground most of the time so quickly, I can see him do really well if he plays 5/8.

You're dead right . I reckon I'd catch him over 50 m but the first 10 with that fend, awesome.

I don't think it's that he's necessarily that quick, it's more that he's so difficult to read that defenders hold off him. When he runs he doesn't lift his knees as high as most people do, which means that he can step very suddenly, without warning, at any point in his stride. In the blink of an eye you can go from defending directly in front of Hodges to having him on your inside with a palm in your chest. Whereas almost every other player with a notable step sets it up with a highly visible hop.

Just wait till tomorrow night.

If the team runs out as named ie: Hoffman @ 5/8th I'm going to fight you.

The mysterious training injury to hoff, the hodges smoke screen, 1910s cryptic post... I think we can officially say that benji will be our 5/8 tomorrow night.

Incorrect. The excited nature of his post suggests that he, 1910, will in fact be running out onto Suncorp tomorrow evening. I for 1 will be cheering.

Who's going to the game?

Hodges at five eigth is a tough proposition to swallow at face value. I hope it's a smokescreen and we simply call up a Strasser to do a simple job for us but I get the feeling it won't be.

It wouldn't be so bad if it was just another way to give our rookies time to get some valuable experience in the ISC before being handed their opportunity against the struggling Cowboys but I get the feeling that Hoffman will keep his spot until it's way too late. Just a feeling though, nothing more.

I'm actually more worried with Hodges playing five eigth than I am with Hoffman. At least with Hoffman I know he's going to run the ball and work for a quick play the ball and do his fair share in defence. With Hodges, I don't think he's going to accept anything less than a money play everytime he has the ball and I get the feeling he'll be good for a few bone-head plays that really hurt us.

I feel like we're in for one of those Rocky and Bullwinkle conclusions - Justin's Jumbled Jamboree or Rookie Randomness.

On the brightside, it's going to be a great forward tussle. Burgess Bros & Te'o up against McGuire, McCullough, Glenn, Gillett & Parker. I really hope we see Josh take it to one of the Burgess Bros and see Parker join in the fracas. It'd also be cool to see Gillett & Glenn used more on the fringe and really test Souths out in that department. Hopefully Oates receives an extended go too - him running full pelt off a Hunt face pass would be ridiculously sweet. I think I'd replay that tape more times than rna played Prince to Gillett from '13.

I predict a tight game, the experience of Souths may give them the victory and I suspect there will be at least 13 f-bombs in the live discussion thread.

I'm going to the game. And I also want to see 1910 get a run. As a fellow dispenser of sarcasm it would be a win for the little guys
