[Rumour] The Hunt for Karmichael's return to Broncos.

Ben hunt is close to the worst half in the Nrl. He plays one good game in 10 and everyone thinks hes the best thing since sliced bread!
Mate he's played 5 games this year and has showed glimpses of having some kind of future. He's whole career has been stalled by having to play off the bench as a rotational hooker. He finally gets a full off season as no.1 halfback and you want to toss him to the wolves when he has an average game. Don't forget he is playing with a five eight who is clearly not suited in that role.

I'll admit I was wrong about Hunt just as I was about Copley. I know we're only 5 games in to the season, but he's improved every game, and going on this year alone he's shown more than any of our halves since Lockyer. I'd even say if you take out Round 1, he's been pretty consistent too.

yea i dont know why so much hate for ben hunt. im not saying hes the next lockyer or johns of dce but there a alot of good judges of footbal better then any of us who think he has a future in nrl. once he gets a solid partner in the halves i really think he will kick on again to anthother level. that being said i dont think hes done anyhting really wrong yet this season besides a couple of shocking kicks here and there

Hunt has more than enough talent to be our long-term halfback.

Pair him with another legit playmaker and watch him step it up even further.

I would be happy with Hunt playing at centre. I would like it if they let him come in at fullback every now and then during a game, though. He set up quite a few tries with his grubbers for the wingers.

Plus, I want to see Hunt and Hodges combining again. They came up with some good pieces of attacking play in their time together.

Much as it's tempting to want a quick fix (a la chasing someone Manly) I've developed a sneaky feeling over the past few weeks that this time in a year or two we might be very happy the broncos stuck with Hunt.

having said that, I still think there's a couple of important pieces that need to fall into place around the club for that to be a stronger chance of happening (but talk of what they are probably belongs in another thread).

We can find a use for Hunt if he returns. Wing, centre, backrow, bench utility. He can fill many rows. What he also brings is leadership qualities and professionalism. What he has to do is come at the right price. Just think if Hodges goes down with another bad injury it will probably be the end of him and Hunt could fill that void.

TEST great Darren Lockyer has urged the NRL to bankroll Karmichael Hunt's return to rugby league as the Broncos and Titans prepare to fight it out for the AFL convert. The fierce foes will square off at Cbus Super Stadium on Friday night and their Queensland derby rivalry will extend off-field in the battle for Hunt's signature.
The Courier-Mail can reveal the Broncos' interest in bringing Hunt home to Red Hill is genuine.

......

The Courier-Mail understands the Broncos are prepared to outlay $600,000 annually to entice Hunt.
By tapping into its vast corporate network, Brisbane can source additional third-party sponsorships to bring Hunt's package to around $1 million a season. That figure is still shy of the estimated $1.3m Hunt pockets in the AFL.
The 27-year-old has an option to remain at the Suns next year but is currently playing reserves a scenario no top-level athlete will find palatable in the long term.

just a few segments from the Courier Mail article re: K.Hunt

It seems both Broncos and Titans are interested.

and Karmichael Hunt is currently the most expensive reserve grade player in Australian sporting history (i assume at 1.3 million a season) and there is only 1 reason why the AFL would again outlay that money for essentially a reserve grade player ... and that is to spite the NRL.

Exactly where would we fit him in the team? Wing is where I would play him

No matter how good he was in his time here he has been out of the game since 2009 and would have to prove himself first in trial games and the like. I wouldn't rush him into the team without a test

Possible backline I would field with Hunt here

1: Barba
2: Hoffman
3: Copley
4: Hodges
5: K.Hunt
6: Milford (Supposing we get him)
7: B.Hunt

forget about KH - He would not be the same player he was before and other players have passed him by - we need to spend money of 4 players right now - we up Milfords contract - we chase DCE with whatever it takes and buy 2 big young forwards like the young bloke at the tigers you have the drive - size and the will to get in there and let rip.
Then get rid of Reed to another club in England and save our money and go buy a decent centre
we actually have the money to do this so what are they waiting for - oh yes our juniors to stand up and be counted

$600k isn't too ridiculous for K.Hunt, a little bit overs, considering we have no idea what form of ability he'll have when (if) he comes back.

If we haven't got any big name signings laying in wake for next season, I don't see why we shouldn't at least take a risk on a 3 year deal with him, it could pay massive dividends.

1. Ben Barba
2. Daniel Vidot
3. Karmichael Hunt
4. Justin Hodges
5. Dale Copley
6. Anthony Milford
7. Ben Hunt

Alternatively if Ben Hunt plays extremely average for the rest of this season, we could test Karmichael at Five-Eighth with Milford at Halfback, and slot Reed back in to left centre.

What did Vidot do wrong?

Darren Lockyer urges the NRL to show AFL convert Karmichael Hunt the money

TEST great Darren Lockyer has urged the NRL to bankroll Karmichael Hunt's return to rugby league as the Broncos and Titans prepare to fight it out for the AFL convert.

The fierce foes will square off at Cbus Super Stadium on Friday night and their Queensland derby rivalry will extend off-field in the battle for Hunt's signature.
The Courier-Mail can reveal the Broncos' interest in bringing Hunt home to Red Hill is genuine.

The club has yet to table a formal offer for Hunt, but possesses scope within the salary-cap to be competitive after failing in their big-money bid for Maroons skipper Cameron Smith.
However, Hunt's return to the Broncos is not a fait accompli, with the Titans ready to pounce if the former Test and Origin fullback indicates he is serious about an NRL comeback.
"We're as interested as anyone in talking to him," Titans boss Graham Annesley said on Monday night.
"I'm not sure in Karmichael's eyes if we are in the ball park financially or what our salary-cap position is. There are a few stumbling blocks, but we would never knock back a conversation with Karmichael or his manager.

"If Karmichael is interested in coming back to rugby league, I imagine he will carry a fairly hefty price tag. I'm not sure if we'd be able to match it with the other clubs but we'd be happy to ask the question.
"He is quality ... a class rugby league player."

The Broncos went close to snaring Hunt for this season before the AFL flexed its political muscle at the eleventh hour.
However, Lockyer believes the NRL should take the fight to its chief sporting rival and fund a poaching bid for his former Broncos and Maroons teammate.
"Karmichael is a good fit for our game," Lockyer said.
"If there is an opportunity that makes sense from a commercial and holistic viewpoint, the NRL should get him back.

"We lost Israel Folau to rugby and it wouldn't have taken $1 million to get a guy like Izzy back.
"There is now an opportunity to get Karmichael and I'd like to see the NRL try to find a way to make it happen."
The prospect of the NRL underwriting the purchase of a marquee player, such as Hunt, was discussed at February's CEOs meeting.
"There was a discussion around that type of concept," Annesley said.
"There is an appetite for it if the NRL is in a position to subsidise payments to a player like Karmichael Hunt, and every club had an equal opportunity to bid for the player."
Lockyer added: "I'd love to see 'K' back in our game, he would look good in a Broncos jersey that's for sure."

Re: Darren Lockyer urges the NRL to show AFL convert Karmichael Hunt the money

If interest is legitimate, and K. Hunt comes back next year - where does he fit in?

1. Ben Barba
2. Daniel Vidot
3. Karmichael Hunt
4. Justin Hodges
5. Josh Hoffman
6. Anthony Milford
7. Ben Hunt

Re: Darren Lockyer urges the NRL to show AFL convert Karmichael Hunt the money

Welp, in the context of where we're at, this is huge. Signing KHunt wouldn't surprise me at all now.

At this point, I consider signing KHunt as an insurance policy for our halves, in case BHunt doesn't pay off by the end of this season.

6. KHunt
7. Milford

Is not something out of the twilight zone at all.

I completely agree with this. Provided he doesn't come at too much cost too the cap (and something like $600k that that article suggests I'm fine with) there is literally no negatives to signing him.

Re: Darren Lockyer urges the NRL to show AFL convert Karmichael Hunt the money

So the Broncos have spent too much money buying players they want the NRL to chip in so they can buy another:laugh:
