[Rumour] The Hunt for Karmichael's return to Broncos.

Re: Darren Lockyer urges the NRL to show AFL convert Karmichael Hunt the money

I guess i just want to see the best players possible playing NRL, regardless of what club. I dont watch AFL or Rugby so its a shame i probably will never see Folau play again and after this year probably never see SBW play again either.

Even if you don't normally watch rugby, you should watch Izzy play. The bloke pwns so hard, even more so than in league.

My fear with rewarding code hoppers is its likely to entice more players to try it, grab ridiculous money in rugby for a year or 2 and use it as a bargaining tool to get more than you're worth to return to league.

Its not that i hate the code, its just like everyone else, only so much free time to devote to so many pursuits.

I totally understand your point, i just don't think players will suddenly start hopping codes like people fear. The vast majority of league players are happy and content in their chosen sport.

I doubt Roosters fans think the SBW think that he is getting paid more than he is worth, i know most Bronco fans would like to see K Hunt somewhere in the side this year and i think every team would make room for Folau. These are the players i want to watch in the NRL regardless of who they have upset by swapping codes.

If the NRL will top up the extra for union/AFL players etc then it would need to be done in a draft situation, wooden spoon gets first pick sort of thing or its yet another cap concession that blows the whole point of the salary cap.

Re: Darren Lockyer urges the NRL to show AFL convert Karmichael Hunt the money

I agree, they shouldnt hold the NRL to ransom but I honestly would not be against the NRL saying to all 16 clubs have 250k a year to contribute towards a salary for a player(s) from another code. This would be funded by the NRL and given to all clubs. Its up the clubs if they want to use it. In Brisbanes case they could offer Hunt 800k a year and 550k would be under the cap. If he signs for 3 years they get that benefit for 3 years, after than he is back to being a standard NRL player.

There are no doubt flaws and i'm not advocating the Broncos get special treatment, i think all clubs should be allowed to pillage the other codes where appropriate, just like the other codes are supported to do against the NRL. I was all in favour of Folau going to the Eels even though he left the Broncos to switch codes, just like Sailor, Tuqiri and Hunt. We have been burnt more than any other club.

Surely if someone like Jarrod Croker got pinched by the ARU/Brumbies for 2 years because Canberra just couldnt match the offer at the time you would like some support in the future to get him back?

The NRL helped keep Johns in the game (got him a deal with 9) but they have never lifted a finger to stop a Qlder going (Sailor, Tuqiri, Rogers, Hunt, Folau) or to help them return.

The NRL have always seen things through the prism of "what will help NSW".

TBH mate, im not too concerned with whats happened in the past or turning it into a NSW vs Qld issue.

I'm just in favour of the best players playing in the NRL and i'd like to see every club supported equally to make that happen.

I don't think it needs to be complicated at all.

Quadruple (or more) the money paid for origin and rep games, that'll ensure, for the most part, all the best players are getting significantly more money without affecting the integrity of the salary cap.

Sorry mate, might not have been clear.

Completely agree with you.

But the NRL won't do it because it will mean that Hunt and Folau (Qlders) will come back. That's not good for NSW.

If Hunt and Folau were NSW players, they'd already have done something like you suggest.

Re: Darren Lockyer urges the NRL to show AFL convert Karmichael Hunt the money

League didn't miss him, Izzie, Lote, Sailor, Rogers etc. for everyone league loses we have more come through the ranks. Let Khunt rot in reserve grade AFL unless he wants to come back for the right reasons.

This is just PR bullshit that the NRL spins to save face. I hate it and think it is 100% false. Losing those players is a big loss to the game. If we keep these players in the game it improves the quality of teams, thus improving the quality of games. I don't care if SOMETIMES a comparable player comes along, the simple truth is the NRL is a better product when there are more stars, not less.

The game would be better this year if we had Hunt and Folau running around, just like the game will be worse off next year for not having Folau and Benji and SBW and Sam Burgess around. Oh, and nobody has come along that even comes close to having the same skills as Folau, and I'd be almost certain nobody else of SBW's ilk will come along either.

100%

The only problem with centralised contracts is it could create feelings of entitlement for a lot of the players who wouldn't be on it.

The Titans will have a far better chance of signing him than us

The Gold Coast need to some genuine strikepower in the backline apart from Sezer/Kelly and if we sign him we will have to release someone and most of our backs provide very good value almost all the time.

Reed for Hunt. Seems like a good trade.

Or Hoffman for Hunt.

I would have no problem with Broncos getting rid of either of those.

Put Hunt at centre, pluck some islander winger to put outside of him and we're pretty much golden.
