[Rumour] The Hunt for Karmichael's return to Broncos.

There's never been a 1st grade standard (using the term loosely btw) AFL convert in the NRL has there?

I reiterate, don't want Hunt. We don't need another fullback or winger and I'd prefer to give a youngster who has actually shown promise the shot before an overpriced essentially afl player who was not a good half to begin with.

Is this a real chance of happening in 2014?

K.hunt coming back I mean..

Can't imagine where he would play.

We already have Hoffman at FB, Hoffman in the centres, Hoffman on the wing, Hoffman at 5/8.

Still, we are a bit short on outside backs. There's only Hoffman, Reed, Vidot, JYY, Mills, Kahu, Hodges, Oates, Copley, Drew and He-Whose-Name-Shall-Not-Be-Said.

Maybe back row? Nah, we're short there too: Glenn, Gillett, Parker, Oates (versatile little fella), Stagg, Thaiday, Lowrie

I would have said maybe 5/8 but alas, AP has given KHunt the KHiss of death.

No, wait, prop? Now there's an idea...

I certainly hope Hunt isn't coming back. With Barba signed he just offers nothing. Would infinitely prefer signing Cam to Hunt, and infinitely prefer DCE to both.

As for AFL converts who made it, wasn't Locky a gun U12 AFL player?

Yeah Lockyer was also considered a real talent at a young age in the Aussie Rules sides he played for, wouldn't have been surprised to see him have done as well in it too.

I don't see why we couldn't sign someone on a one year contract, it's not like we have a Scrooge McDuck vault of options for next year...

Matter of whether they would accept it.

Could argue SBW and putting together a type of deal like that but even then it's risky.

IMO, the thing we don't need in 2014 is another makeshift 5/8 based on speculation we will get Milford or DCE in 2015. We should develop our own talent, or forever remain quiet about teams buying a premiership

The pre-season and trials ought to focus on giving someone like Kahu, Taylor and Stasser a go in the halves.

In Barba, we have a FB who is a 2nd 5/8 and so I agree we have no need of KHunt, as much as I liked him as a very very good FB

If Barba is a 2nd 5/8, doesn't that mean we have some liberties in the actual #6? If he has the ball-playing skills to be the third half, do we need all 3 to be able to throw a cut-out or short ball? Why not play to our strengths and use a damaging ball-runner like Hunt to play #6?

That being said, I'm sure Hook would have visions of KHunt playing a Gidley-esque bench hooker role.

Some liberties yes, but Barba isn't a kicker and Ben Hunt isn't a dominant organizer yet. I really think the 6 next year needs to be able to help in both those departments.

Barba wouldn't make up for a lack of a genuine 2nd halves player, just like someone like Brett Stewart wouldn't make up for the lack of Foran or DCE. They are different roles, finishing and creating.

I thought Barba has a decent kicking game. I recall at least 1 40-20 which to me needs a certain level of kicking ability.

I also see his role more like Bowen and Slater, up in the line or just behind it, creating a play.

As for Hunt the organizer, I actually don't think he is that far off and Macca also needs to step up in this role next year.

Come to think of it, didn't Hunt and Macca make a rather good halves pairing in the not too distant past?

There you go! As Morkel suggested, place for Karmichael: hooker!
