Sack Griffin/New Coach Discussion

I would have Wayne back as coaching director, griffin as head coach and walters as assistant. If walters is the man for the job he can prove himself and take it

i cannot see that working. if griffin is to remain head coach pointless bringing wayne back at all imo

Bennett would be good as a DoF/godfather type figure imo, would command a lot of respect especially from younger players.

griffin seems to arrogant to allow someone to change his game plan/ideas. especially if benny wanted to come in and get rid of some of his precious 2008 20's players.

Really? how is he arrogant. And those precious 2008 20's players have been the best available for the job with no one below them deserving to displace them. So Griffin should have just dumped them for fun?

Wasn't it Bennett who selected Griffin for U20s coach and when White rang him about coming back to Broncos, Bennett again said they did not need him and that Griffin was the man for them.
I would say Bennett would have no problem working with Griffin. They won't waste a lot of time with long chats

Wayne Bennett's will never coach the Broncos again. He'd be stupid if he did.

You think someone who kept the same game plan for 20 rounds last year even though it looked like we were heading for disaster isn't arrogant?

imo White and pals should spend the next however long finding out everything they can about Craig Bellamy so they can convince him not to retire from coaching once he finishes up at the Storm and comes home to QLD (which according to his book, won't be all that far off).

Cause Bennet is of the same mould as Hassler in that it's is way or the highway. He would want total autonomy in regards to players, game plans etc etc. I don't think it is Bennet to sit back and take an advisory role, it's head coach or nothing I reckon.

I'd say Bellamy would likely take a break after coaching Melbourne but it would not be a retirement. He may miss the challenge and resume coaching in Brisbane especially if a second side was introduced. Even if that scenario didn't happen in the right timeframe the Gold Coast may be on the lookout around then. On Griffin , he may have decided to coach a little differently but he still skates on very thin ice. Any complacency or drop off in commitment from the team and consequent poor performances will see him gone. This appears to truly be a defining season for him.

Did you guys fall asleep during the 2013 Origin period or something? The side was changed around then and aside from one spirited win against the Titans, they were bloody ordinary.

Infact, the one time Hook really experimented with the line up, they were handed their worst defeat of the season.

So really, this point about Hook being too arrogant and waiting until R20 is and always has been total nonsense.

I'm not exactly convinced a WB return is the most ideal of scenarios for the club but if it gets Griffin out of here I'd be all for it. He'd basically have to win a premiership to change my mind about him and even though we've started well in many ways it makes me want to fire him even more, especially considering the positives from the first 3 rounds are things that Griffin stood in the way of for so long.

Sure is. Pfft Pete coming in here with your 'facts' and 'reasoning'

He stood in the way of increased fitness?

It was under him that we went on the bulk program, everyone trying to be as big as they can be. Look how much better we are now that Corvo has abolished that thinking!

Also, look at the big positive of last week; Ben Hunt. For 2 years Griffin stood in the way of his development as a half by playing him as a bit part hooker for close to 100 first grade games.

Okay, so... who hired Corvo?

Ben Hunt did the same in a couple of games last year, and went into his shell again. Let's not act like he is the messiah just yet...

I just don't get it. Griffin is doing all the right things, including the stuff most people here wanted done, and the club seems to be headed in the right direction, but there's no recognition for that?

I don't know if he is the answer, but as far as I'm concerned, he has earned a reprieve and more time to continue in the same direction. Let's see what comes of it...

I feel that Newcastle is Bennett's swansong. He is someone who acts with dignity and he wouldn't risk his reputation. He is also 64 years old and I would be surprised if he would want to coach long term after his deal with Newcastle ends.
