The problem we have is that our current brand of footy, for the majority of time, is old fashioned and bearded. meninga would bring more of the same and would make make no difference at all so please forget him.
Bennett? You have to be kidding. he has proven that he is also entrenched in a style that has little in common with the modern game. His personality perfectly represents his approach to the game. he has no regard for providing entertainment in an entertainment industry. He goes out of his way to avoid promoting the game in an industry that is about people. he has completely disengaged the Newcastle media in an area that used to have great access to the home town heroes. television and radio commercials were once filled with Knights players. Not any more.
We need a thinker and some one with a contemporary approach.
Personally, I would love us to pursue a coach. Who focuses on attack, dazzle dazzle, entertainment, ooh la la, x factor, ceremonial pomp and other stuff like that.
Our brand should be represented by a cutting edge excitement machine, not some droll, boring grind-a-thon.

I remember seeing an interview with Barry Maranta in about 1992 (remember they did a huge special the night we won the comp the first time with hightlights of the season etc) and he said that when the Broncos were founded they wanted to get ladies and kids to the footy so it had to be an attractive style of football that they played.

I'd be happy if we went back to they style that worked for us. Simply, stuff defence, score more points than the other team. If we win games 30 - 24 every week that's fine. I'd rather do that and be entertained than losing 8 - 12 every week.

Whoever we get as coach (even if Hook stays) we need a new mantra - lets throw it around, lets score more than the other mob (if they score 30, we'll score 31)....it'll be more fun for the players and it'll be good to watch.

Looking at our coaching list, we've got the head coach, 2 assistants and 2 "performance" coaches and a strength coach. What's the difference between the last 3? Can we get a specialist defensive coach?
Kearney was hired as assistant coach but specialising in defence. He is earning his money NOT

winning gets the crowds in.

it's pretty much hand-in-glove with what you're describing anyway, successful teams generally look very good doing what they do.

Mal has probably matured and become more professional coaching wise during his record-breaking stint in Origin but it would be a big challenge for him returning to club coaching as Origin coaching is very different from club coaching. In club coaching you need to back it up every single week for 7 months at least when in Origin you have weeks preparation etc and it's a more man management role. This thought just came into my head is when Mal came in to coach Canberra in 1997 the game was in turmoil at the time because of the Super League drama and the Raiders probably needed a popular club great as coach that could get along with the fans and players.

You can still have great attacking football with great defence, you put yourself under less pressure in defence knowing you have the points to win the game at any time.

Holding onto a slim lead for dear life just puts stress on a team week in week out knowing you could lose at any time against better attacking sides.

Kevvie Walters would be a much better option.

Surely he's learnt a thing or two by sitting next to the spitting madman for so many years.

Ben Ikin, Ben Walker, Darren Lockyer. One of these three dudes will be the next head coach.

Ben is very comfortable in the media and is on the Cowboys board, I can't see him letting the easy money go to jump into a high pressure coaching position which would be a rebuilding job for the first 2 or more years.

Bellamy's assistants haven't exactly been what you'd call great coaches. Griffin isn't working out and Kearney has been a dud. It's not a good sign for Walters.

We can't, it would hurt shareholder profits. Or would it?

Now there's a move I could definitely get behind.
Fucking put one back on souffs, bring Madge to Brisbane under any pretext, and tell him it rains in Sydney and planes don't fly there!

Not sold on the Souths coach yet tbh. I think Inglis, like Lockyer, makes sides look better than they are.

The last 2 performances have made me give Hook some credit. Our last 2 performances were huge improvements. Composure under pressure is what needs to be one focus - it was what IMO blew it for us yesterday. Prince just didn't see the better option on that last pass.

With Tasi in the side, with the effort and passion coming back, with Wallace kicking better, I'm reserving judgement on Hook. I mean, even Norman passed the ball at the right time, so something must be happening with the coaching
