Does Sam Have A Chance In Hell Of Getting Off?

The fact he's getting a week at all is laughable.

As Griffin said, a stern letter and a fine would be sufficient. Missing a game? Please.

I completly agree, but to say he's getting a week purely from touching the ref and comparing it to someone escaping a suspension due to a low grade tackle isn't quite correct. He's only getting the week due to the loading from a previous offence. I wonder if the broncos would be contesting it if he could take an early guilty plea and not miss a game, as he would have been able to do if he had no loading.

The whole loading thing is BS anyway. There might be some merit in loading similar offences, but to incur a longer suspension for touching a ref based on (I think) a dangerous throw you did a year or 2 ago is as much as a joke as Thaiday getting charged in the first place for touching the ref.

Initial reaction, sitting on the sidelines was "wtf are you grabbing the ref for Sammy".

The ref barked straight back at him not to touch him IIRC.

If the referrees want the players' respect then Sammy should get off.

His exact words were "First of all, don't do that...".

""If it was a preliminary final and it was Cameron Smith or Jamie Lyon, I wonder if they would make the same decision," he said.

"They could have sent through a warning letter which we would have been happy to cop and we could have sent a warning letter saying 'please fix up your referees'.""

Griffin is fired up on this. Gotta say that made me LOL.

I'm sure it'll be looking good for Thaiday until the prosecution brings the ref in, hands him a little stuffed referee doll, and asks him to show the judiciary where the bad man touched him...

If it was Cam Smith or Jamie Lyon, it wouldn't need to be a final for them to get off.

like how cam smith got off that charge and played in the 2008 grand final.

Yep, precisely like that. Many thanks for backing up my sarcastic, throwaway statement with a quick fact that proves it so neatly! And while you're doing some research, mind tracking down the meaning of the word 'hyperbole' for me?

huh? correct me if im wrong, but you were saying that cam smith/jamie lyon would get off a 'touching the referee' charge, and it wouldnt even need to be a finals match for them to do so?

i was pointing out that cam smith got ruled out of a grand final because of some stupid charge.

Didn't sound unhappy either.
i disagree. watch the vid.

I'm not going to get into a debate with you on reading tone of voice and body language. If you can't pick neutral body language and tone, then that's your problem.

In my opinion I wouldn't call Smith's charge 'stupid' - as I recall, wasn't it a chicken wing tackle? A lot more serious than grabbing the ref's shirt, as far as I'm concerned.

But my apologies, I was being a little facetious with my first comment, mostly because I hate Smith and Lyon, and on reflection it didn't really come across as such. The written word and all that...

the fact that he stopped what he was doing, looked at where thaiday was touching him, and said 'dont do that' indicates anything but neutral to me. if you dont mind what someone is doing, you dont tell them to not do it.

Smith got suspended for trying to wrestle Sams head off.

Suttor is lucky no ones belted him yet considering the way he conducts himself

The argument isn't about whether or not Thaiday did the wrong thing but what is a fair punishment IMO. I think missing a game for it is madness. A $5000 fine is a much more suitable punishment IMO The fact that a tackle Sam made in 2011 counts against him in this instance is laughable IMO. Need to see some common sense from the NRL in regards to these types of issues.

I don't think the ref gave a shit, but that doesn't matter really.

He's been found guilty. Typical judiciary
