At least we will have a proper leader on Friday night. I think the ban is fine as you can not lay your hands on a ref under any circumstances, you learnt this as a 5 year old. Off topic but in a game in 1999 3 Warriors players got 9 weeks suspension for man-handling referee Paul Simpkons.

Actually I would have prefered Sammy to play this one, he showed against the Storm some real leadership qualities for a change and we could have used that against the Titans not to mention the strength it will take out of forwards pack now.

This is why the NRL is becoming more of a joke.

Who cheated in this incident? Melbourne. Not punished, awarded 4 points.

Who made a mistake in this incident? The referees, and the boss has admitted as much. No punishment, nobody dropped.

Who did nothing wrong? The Broncos. And they are the ones punished. 4 points against them and captain suspended.

I don't condone contact with the referee by the players - but if its minor contact (if that) with the referee's shirt as a direct result of an admitted mistake by the referees, as long as Sammy doesn't hit him, surely the judiciary should be able to apply a common sense ruling that the incident would never have occurred in the first place had the referees not made such a blatant and obvious error, that they admitted they got wrong.

100%
The nrl never misses an opportunity to make a joke of itself

I'll be watching every game this year for any deliberate contact with the ref, and I expect it to result in the same charge.

Rules are rules, but only if they're policed properly. There's many things wrong with this situation.

Oh well, we'll just have to win without him.

Tbh we could be better off with a different captain.

It was always going to be a long shot.

At the end of the day, you don't touch the officials, ever. Doesn't matter if you just touch his shirt or anything - you don't do it.

It's a bit ridiculous that an unrelated 2011 charge influenced this one and that he's facing the exact same punishment as a bloke who knocked somebody out with an illegal maneuver but that's just how it is.
