Seibold - 5 games in

When Hunt left and we couldn't get Taylor we needed to make a signing. Moses was proposed but Wayne, the board, or a combination of both supposedly turned it down. Nothing can convince me that we'd have been a weaker side over the past 2 years with Moses at HB instead of Niko, the man got the EELS into the top 4 when he moved their mid season for God's sake. We could have gotten him for 3 years until/ if Dearden or Boyd was ready and then made a decision then, but instead we trotted out two halves who don't speak on the field and are known primarily for their running games.

I cant speak for Wayne, but i'm not a fan of Moses, and i'm not a fan of signing a halfback ( or any player ) just for the sake of signing a player. I'd guess either Wayne didnt rate him, or we didnt think he was worth the money. I dont think he would have made much difference to us tbh, but we will never know.

Half back is a key position on the field and unless you have someone like Cam Smith or Locky doing everything from a ball playing POV or a monster pack playing a revolutionary style of footy like the Dogs had when they made the GF then you have zero chance of winning the comp without a competent one. Hunt has more flaws to his game than Moses but got the kitchen sink thrown at him because the Dragons realized from years of shit house performances just how necessary a HB is.

Dont disagree with you about the half back position. We just need to find the right one, not just any one.

Not saying we should sign anything that resembles a 7 (I want dearden to have a shot personally) but perhaps we are too tentative in trying to pick the absolute most obvious surefire winner that we overlook some of the others.

Paralysis by analysis...

I remember when the idea of Moses signing to the Broncos was being floated and while I wouldn't have rejected it out of hand, it would require a fair amount of change to make it work. As we saw last year, Moses isn't the most flexible half and unless the team is tailored for him and he's allowed the freedom to make mistakes, he struggles and becomes something of an easy target.

If I had my pick of the Eels spine players, I'd rather sign Clinton Gutherson.

+1 to looking at Gutherson, comfortably the best available Fullback on the market, is also flexible enough to play Centres or Five-Eighth if required. Similar to Bird in the sense that he's just a natural footballer, great instincts and plays hard every single week.

If we could find a way to get rid of this Boyd contract we'd be absolutely laughing.

It's been floated as a bit of a joke, but imagine if Wayne actually did poach him to the Bunnies. That'd go down as one of the biggest wins for the club in recent memory I think. We may not immediately benefit from it because Isaako & co. probably aren't ready to be Fullbacks, but the cap & roster flexibility it'd give us would be sooooo nice moving forward to 2020 & 2021.

That's just hyperbole. I didn't put the man down nor did I sprinkle a little praise. I said he isn't a great tactician after I praised what he did for the club and great job he did to assemble the rosters he did at the time when such a thing was possible.

It's interesting that you're not actually arguing the points I make, but my supposed bias.
Also, maybe just being a good guy every now and then... pot, kettle much?
Trust me, I've been a nice guy concerning you, just ask Nashy if he thinks that's true. I believe I could find quite a few posts that would exemplify that intention so no, pot etc.

Actually, thinking about it for a moment these three lines I've quoted are EXACTLY what I'm referring to. Faint praise and condemnation in the same posts or outright condemnation but never a post where you simply say what you liked about the man. It doesn't matter, I shouldn't have said anything. It was an observation probably better kept to myself.

We would probably end up subsidising his contract.

There's definitely an argument to be made that even if the Bunnies want us to chip in $200K a year for the remaining 3 years in his contract that it's still worth it for us.

We're clearly on different wave lengths. I'm pretty sure I've been a "nice guy" concerning you as well, but this has nothing to do with how we interact with each other, but how we discuss the various topics in this forum.

You clearly cannot cop criticism to Bennett, so you (and others) make up a whole circus around it, pretending it's my bias that colours my opinion, just so you can paper over any praise I do give, while you avoid addressing said criticism, which let's not forget, is actually the topic at hand.

I'm not interested in the window dressing, and I'm pretty sure Wayne won't be inconvenienced in the least if I don't write an ode to him, just like he won't care about people who only praise him and never acknowledge, much less mention his flaws.

200k would be a small price to pay. Literally anyone in our squad at fb would be better than Boyd right now. Let's just revolutionise the game and put Haas there. Imagine trying to tackle that bastard with a 20-30m runup.

Could well be worth it. Thing i worry about is they could pick up Jimmy and Boyd.

Souths won't take Boyd, even with Wayne as coach. He may have close personal connections, but he also isn't stupid. If he has been keeping up with the Broncos at all this year, he knows which way the wind is blowing for Boyd, and it's blowing like a gale straight down retirement boulevard/Super League Avenue, and Bennett has already had to see off one busted ass dead weight this week.

I'm still supportive of Boyd and happy for him to keep playing where he is. I do acknowledge he hasn't been brilliant this season but I believe his performances will improve. He has been good in patches and I don't think he's a pea heart or deserving of some of the over the top criticism. I think he's close and I've still got faith that he's the best we've got for the position. We need Milford and McCullough to improve and both of these guys have improvement left in them. I'd like to see McCullough back himself more and finally demand that he call a play and organise one every now and then.

The bolded bit...

Put the bottle back on the fridge & go to bed.
Inglis deserves better than that.
