...all I'm sayig is I don't think he's ever been part of the poison that this club finds itself being consumed by......
He's one of the few that has said he still wants to be here which is ironic as nobody else wants him here other than a few loyal posters.

I've always been under the impression that he just doesn't care all that much, so whilst he might not be an instigator of trouble and unrest necessarily, you could argue that indifference and a lack of passion or drive for the club and the jersey is a big part of the poison that's ruined the place.

Of course he still wants to be here, its the comfortable and easy option for him and he's really all about that.

In reality, his prospects of getting interest from elsewhere are diminishing by the day, so his wanting to stay here is really pretty self serving in this instance.

He's been a supporter of the club since he was a kid so I dont think it's just because it's easy. Though it definitely is the easiest option for him.

For all the reported "unrest" .......Milford's name never seems to come up as an instigator. I'm still keen they offer him a contract...albeit massively reduced.

I think him and Reynolds could go well together.........much like Reynolds and Cody Walker have been.
Dobbo threw his name in this morning

RE....he doesn't care.
I don't KNOW that........and either do you....nobody on this forum does. Only the team and his coaches would know for sure. We are assuming ....because of how we think he's playing. I put a large part of our perception down to a "polynesia" thing....where the culture is quiet, unassuming, shy....etc etc. In times of trouble...they go into their shell a bit. When asked a difficult question....they often can't answer and say nothing.

I think he's just a man/player.....whos got less than zero confidence in himself and that just maybe, maybe..... this clean up/change of culture at the club, could be just the shot in the arm he needs to get his playing career back on track....that along with a decent half, who will control the game and take most of the game management responsibilities off Milfords shoulders.

Some of his performances over the last 2 years indicate you could inject the perfect balance of adrenaline and pure cocaine into his arm and that wouldn’t be enough to wake him from his on field slumber.

I genuinely feel the best thing for him and the club is to simply part ways. It may be the hard reset both parties desperately need.

....and thats all fair enough.

Perhaps the changes the club is about to experience.....along with Reynolds, could be enough of a reset to bring him back to life. I think we could agree, the guy has loads of talent that is really still largely untapped/unfulfilled.

I'd believe a random hobo in the street before I trusted what Badel had to say about anything footy related.
Yeah Badel only said it was currently contracted players lol. That does not exclude anyone like Lodge, TPJ or Oates. Scumbag Badel.

It's not a Polynesian thing, I'm certain of that. It's a talent thing. When Dale Copley turns in a shocker I don't care because he isn't a special player and never was. We're getting what we paid for and we knew how mediocre he was. I demand more from Milford because he is physically capable of producing it and he's also being paid accordingly.

He has all the physical capability to be elite, we know this is true because he's demonstrated it before. If he's not producing it now then it can really only be psychological. If it's psychological, then at some point in the last few years there should have been some evidence of him working on improving that either internally or through getting assistance from people around him, but there just isn't.

If that isn't happening, and it seems incredibly unlikely that it is, then it's either arrogance to not be asking for help, or indifference about his performance. Since he doesn't strike me in anything I've seen to be particularly arrogant, I'm really inclined to think it just doesn't bother him all that much.

Benji Marshall certainly called it out, and the writing should have been on the wall back then. How frustrating must it have been for Benji to be an old man, with none of the physical gifts that a younger man like Milford still had at his disposal, to be busting his ass at Redcliffe to get a first grade run whilst Milford was on a million bucks a year and effectively on cruise control and unwilling to make the extra efforts to be the best he could be.

Perhaps I don't know what Milford's attitude is really like, but you can't say the same about the likes of Benji Marshall.

Yep....thats OK reasoning....and maybe you're right.
Dunno......I can't help but feel that part of it at least, is due to the totally mishandling of all club affairs that is unravelling right in front of our eyes.

Benji...prior to the short stint at the Broncs put plenty of years in just simply going through the motions. Admittedly, he seemed to get a new lease of life in his twilight years.

I'm not saying the club hasn't played its role in Milford's decline. The evidence is pretty strong that they have because it's happened to dozens of other players at the same time. Milford as the highest paid star though is rightly held to a higher standard than everyone else and not only is he not setting the benchmark like he should be, he's generally amongst our poorest contributors, which is saying something given how poor we've generally been overall.

As for Marshall, well I'm not sure I agree he was going through the motions, I think it was more a case of his physical abilities declining with age and him needing to make an adjustment to using his footy smarts to continue to be successful. The fact he was able to successfully make that shift, even it it didn't happen straight away, is testament to how hard he was prepared to work to continue to keep playing NRL.

Even if he was going through the motions, which I disagree with, I'm more inclined to accept that from a guy the other side of 30 who has already achieved it all. I'm really struggling to accept that same mentality and attitude from a guy who still has a lot of years in front of him and really owes it to the club and to himself most of all to be the best NRL player he can possibly be and to do whatever work it takes to get there.

Unfortunately for Milford I think there are some physical realities now. As far as I can tell he's lost his game breaking ability physically, and when halves lose that they transition to leadership, skills and effort.

Milford may have to reinvent himself as a player, and face up to the fact that he might never have the physical ability to do what he once did and thats not a mental thing or a make up of the team thing. It's just a reality of age and injuries.

Dobbo (woop woop woop) said that the talk of "player unrest" is bullshit. "3 players does not make a player unrest".

Oates is one, unhappy that he's not being selected for first grade. Lodge is another, he wants to leave (insinuated Warriors because his partner's dad is there) but said he doesn't want to take a pay cut. Said that at least he is putting in on the field (which is true) but if he wanted to go that badly, take the cut. If no one will pay his full freight, he'll be staying (which is great, we won't be chipping in $$).

Not sure if Milford or TPJ was the 3rd person, it wasn't made clear.

Didn't Oates do this with Seibold too?

Not surprising that he has trouble understanding Kevvie as he is a confirmed halfwit.

Oates: "What do I need to do to get back into first grade"

Kevvie" You need to stop dropping the ball and making U8 defensive reads"

Oates: "**** me the bloke talks in riddles.

Milford may have to reinvent himself as a player,
...or go back to what made him one of the games most potent attacking weapons playing. Is he that old......how old is he? In my mind he's only 25....26? Surely that can't be too old.

Either way.......a change has to happen or we're wasting our time and his. Our club's current propensity for change, maybe just what he needs?

Who should be captain?

  • Herbie Farnworth

  • Kotoni Staggs

  • Jake Turpin

  • Patrick Carrigan

  • Payne Haas
