NEWS Staggs in strife again

The NRL's Committee for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice (aka Integrity Unit) is shit sifting Kotoni Stagg's sauced up antics at the Eatons Hill Hotel over Easter. They have requested CCTV footage hoping to indentify a woman who can help them stitch up Kotoni.

The story currently circulating alleges the NSWelshman was on the turps with his mates before heading to the Eatons Hill Hotel in search of some action. All fine until just before 3am when the Broncos centre mustered the courage to make his move on one of a gaggle of women. Staggs tried his signature move of extending his arm around her but this time it didn't work. The lady nightowl allegedly didn't care for Stagg's advance and asked him to keep his mitts to himself. Bouncers intervened and promptly turfed the highly eligible bachelor out on his ear. And that was the end of that. Until the NRL got wind of it.

So now Kotoni has run afoul of the code's moral guardians 3 times in 12 months. Not a good look for the player holding the entire club to ransom over his contract.

Top NRL Mullah Andrew Abdo said this of his last incident back in February:

“We have issued him with a $10,000 fine and most importantly, he has to complete an education course and he has to meet with me personally and the head of integrity, together with the club CEO, before he is permitted to play again. We want him to understand the impact of his words on people and the responsibility that players have to the community. His language is utterly unacceptable but this is about making sure he understands the impact of that and actually changes."

Education

“There are three components - the fine, the education course and making sure he sits down with us. Getting them to meet with me is not the silver bullet, but I want to explain to them the impact this has on their personal brand, on the club brand and on the game’s brand and then there are two ways they can go from there."

“This is important in relation to Kotoni which is why we want to meet with him before he returns to the field.”

For once, it’s actually in our best interest for the NRL to come down hard on him. It’ll drive away potential suitors and hopefully knock a few hundred thousand of his asking price.

At the very least this has strongly impacted his negotiating position.

Fair enough, i read it as it as written though, Abdo clearly states in light of recent incidents.
I just think that Abdo coming out and saying "in light of recent incidents he may not be allowed to play when he recovers from his injury" is utter bullshit.

Where did Abdo state this? All I can see is Brent Read saying, "It doesn't reflect well on him and I know Andrew Abdo, I've spoken to him today, he's made it very clear that regardless of what happens with his injury and his contract status, he's not going to be allowed to play until he shows Andrew that his behaviour will change."

Unless I'm missing something, I think you might be misquoting Abdo.

The most concerning thing for me about the homophobic slur offence is it was to a fan that wanted a photo with him. Not many brains in this one I’m afraid.
You sure it wasn't a drunken dick claiming he wanted a photo 🤔
Unless you know the facts maybe you shouldn't judge

Yea it was Brent Read quoting Abdo.

Am i missing something? Why do people keep saying all he has done is put his arm around somebody? As far as i am aware barely any information about what happened has been made available.

Anything worse would probably qualify as a crime and it’s been stated no crime has been committed. I’m using process of elimination to assume that and maybe a few seedy words is as far as it has gone. As always there might be more to come though....

It's being repeated because Chnnel 7 explicity stated he 'put his arm around a woman ' and he was told to 'back off'

It’s understood Staggs made an unwanted advance on a woman and put his arm around her, before being told to back off

Didnt hear that one. Did he not back off?

I dont think its been law breaking but if he has been persistently doing it after he got told no i think its an issue, especially with the Hayne/De Belin cases in recent memory being so serious. The NRL wont want more bad publicity involving players abusing women.

I agree if he persisted with it. If he got told to **** off and did so then move on, nothing to see here.

I think he did as he was asked but I don't know it but the lack of interest from police seems to indicate he did little wrong(illegal)

I added the bit from channel 7 to my earlier post.

Was mentioned he tried to put his arm around her

Broncos should wait til Staggs plays a few games before re-signing him, see if he's the same player after recovering from an injured knee.
