State of Origin 2022

On NRL360, they were saying a contributing factor to Addo Carr not getting picked was his off field issues.

What off field issues?
The only two who really shouldn’t be there are Coates and Kaufusi but they play for Melbourne so was always going to happen. I hope Ponga and Cobbs are willing to somehow lift their run metres to compensate for that Melbourne pillow.
That is a major concern. Gagai and Val are gonna need to do some grunt work as we don't want KP doing it, and Coates sucks at it.

I wouldve liked to see Arrow on the bench.

He is always excellent for us in origin coming off the bench and last year he was great for souths off the bench.

This year his form might be down because he's playing edge and then shifted to the middle halfway through the game... I think JD is also looking to get more minutes out of him, so he's having to adapt to that role as well.

I'd easily have Arrow over Collins... I dont think Collins form has been good enough.

In regards to Harry I dont really see too much of an issue with him coming off the bench. It'll be the same as what we do with Billy and Paix. Paix is our actual hooker but to get the best value you bring him off the bench at the 20-30min mark and in Harry's case he will play out the game.

Bellamy did it with Bsmith and Harry last year.

If he's coming off the flu and injury there may be concerns about him getting through the 80min.

It also provides the opportunity to bring Bhunt back on late in the game as a roving middle... like if Cotter is spent.

Slater is going with the Origin blueprint of one utility, one workhorse prop, one impact prop and one edge backrow. Typically you want that 17 to also be able to cover centres but Capewell can fill that void if need be. With that being the case, Collins is better suited to that impact role.

Arrow can count himself unlucky but his indiscretion last year and Carrigan's improved form has cost him.

Slater's worth ethic is unbelievable, if Queensland don't win the series it won't be because Slater didn't plan. He's met with every Queensland eligible player and he's watches every NRL game every week. He's a planning nut.

I hope he doesn't fall into the Bellamy trap of trying to plan an Origin win like you can plan a club win.
That really doesn't sound like a lot considering it's basically a full time job these days.

Probably regret saying this but that NSW team really doesn't strike fear into me like recent years.

They're really solid across the park but you don't look at the two squads and automatically think it's going to be a blood bath.

The absence of Jurbo for me is a big one. The guy lives and breathes footy and puts his 100% into every play. I'd have thought they find a spot for him somewhere purely because he epitomises what state of origin is about. That would have hurt Jake bad not been selected i think.

Jrbo has been average for years. Weapon defensively, but he is Ryan James level bad in attack.

Apparently Coates will move to the left wing, so Cobbo can stay on his preferred right.

Grant has the annual origin flu too.

But I guess at the same time, there's a definite height advantage. It seems Slater is going for aerial threats on the wing hence the selection of Coates.

It’s going to be interesting to see how much influence cam smith will have as an assistant coach. Is this his first coaching role?
