State of Origin 2022

I don't really like that Ponga seems nailed on. The kid has not been at all consistent in the last 12-18months and its not as if he has the runs on the board at origin level either. Part of me thinks he is just hyped because he's a posterboy and brings viewers. I hope I'm wrong but I'm not sure there is anything Walsh can do to get picked over Ponga if he is fit.

The other guy getting alot of media traction is Nanai. Just think it is too soon for him especially when there are proven options like Capewell and Arrow who need to be in the 17 anyway. I have not seen anything from Nanai to say he's better than either of those two and having an experienced player like Frizzell or Murray running at him would be a problem for QLD, imo.

Both Gagai and Val have had sensational starts to the season in the centres. No reason to move either of them. I would probably go Oates over Sami, purely for size. If To'o is back and JAC is there, NSW wings could be exploited with some tall timber.
I don't like it either but I don't necessarily think it is 'nailed on'. At the current state of our Fullback stocks nobody comes close to him. But he isn't some golden boy Maroons player that if someone better comes along we stick with Ponga, not consistent enough and frankly isn't good enough for us to give up someone better. If that ever happens. Thus, the door is open for Walsh, WHEN HE IS BETTER.

I agree with your backline takes apart from his speed I genuinely think Oates has been one of the best wingers in the comp this year. Great under the high ball, defensively, metres (PCM as well). I'd probably go:
1. Ponga
2. Oates
3. Holmes
4. Gagai
5. Coates

On the note of Nanai talented player but I haven't really seen Origin arena material from him yet in his career. Forward pack for mine doesn't have to be the most talented bloke as evidenced by Fifita. I don't want him anywhere near the 17 for this year and when he gets some games up next year he can come into calculations. A lot could change in a matter of weeks but I doubt it. I'd personally go Arrow I think he has been good at SR this year whenever I watch the Rabbitohs. But ultimately I am pretty prepared to read Felise is still their. I reckon 11. Capewell, 12. Kaufusi Int. Arrow and Fifita misses the side entirely.

I think if Brimson plays fullback for titans like he should, he could easily play himself for Fullback.

So for us, I'd say:

Certainties: Haas, Capewell
Probables: Oates, Staggs
Possibles: Carrigan, Flegler, Cobbo, Reynolds

Been watching the games very closely and the QLD players,

Due to Injuries i think some players will be racing the clock

1. Brimson/Ponga
2. Oates/Coates
3. Holmes
4. Gaiga/Hamiso
5. Hamiso
6. Muster
7. DCE
8. Foutika
9. Grant
10. Tino
11. Capewell
12. Kafusi
13. Arrow

14. Hunt
15. Cotter
16. Papali
17. Collins

I believe Papali is becoming a bit long in the tooth, id say this will be his last series, not that i dont think he could handle it next year but at some stage you gotta move on, im not sure if he even warrants selection this year, but if he does his best use is off the bench i believe, him and cotter coming on after 25 could be deadly

What has Collins done since coming back to be an automatic pick for the Qld side?

I think he's been average this year (fair enough on the back of an ACL injury).

Patty has been miles better than him as a minimum.

Collins Played 2 cracking games of Origin and one Solid one in 2020, would of been there last year if not for his injury, imo Patrick goes sideways to often and still makes unnecessary offloads, collins runs straight and hard. Also Collins has had a good season so far if you ask me Averaging over 100 running meteres coming of the bench

Did all that before doing his ACL... hasn't come back anywhere near the same player

Pretty evenly matched in the spine this year on form.
NSW with the better 1 and 7.
QLD with the better 6 and 9.

If NSW was smart they would go with Reynolds and Cleary in the halves, yeah it's two Sevens but it clearly worked with QLD in the past, I think if they did that the only player we have that is genuinely better would be Grant over Cook.

The quality difference between the two teams seems to be widening though, lucky Fittler is an Average Coach so it gives us a chance.

The result will depend entirely on who the ref is favouring.

QLD have beat the ref plenty of times. Although the refs have never been so over powered as they are now. Total boss fight.
