State of Origin - Game 3 - Post Match Discussion

I thought the turning point was the injury to Ennis. Don't get me wrong, I think Gidley is quality, but how he makes a rep team as anything more than bench insurance is beyond me. He has a terminal flaw in that he consistently overplays his hand to the detriment of those around him. You saw it last night as the NSW halves had to battle him for the ball. I'd be shocked if no one has had a whisper in his ear about it.

The flow on effect was that Creagh had to move from the edge to the middle. He put on a defensive master class out there over the opening 20. As soon as he shifted the NSW left opened up.

I haven't watched the replay yet - why was Hannant's try disallowed?

Because Thaiday was ruled to have "driven" into the back of Hannant to assist him. Apparently that's against the rules. Despite the fact you see similar stuff where someone piles on top to help a player get it down every week in the NRL.

IMO that's up there with the Lockyer no try from the early 2000's. I can't believe that. In just about every tackle the ball carrier is driven forward by a team mate. Whilst if a player is struggling near the tryline they will ALWYAYS get a push from, usually, multiple team mates.

I honestly thought the video ref had pushed the wrong button when that decision came through.

To the letter of the law, it was probably a correct decision, but as you point out, if that is the case, just about every tackle every week should be a penalty.

Actually, the ruling was that Thaiday pushed the NSW players, which you cant do, so it was a fair decision sadly. You are allowed to stacks on, push and shove your own players, but you cant do it to an opposition player which is what thaiday did.

Watching Stuarts post match, and so far he has said 5 times "We have found a way to beat QLD"........ Really?

The 1st NSW try not going to the video ref says just about all how the refs were up against NSW last night.

Hannant didn't get it down anyway. They should have just said held up. I have NFI how they said no try because Thaiday pushed Hannant. Makes no sense to me.

No, that wouldve been the wrong decision. The 3rd ref couldnt say "NO TRY" with any certainty in regards to him grounding it. Shouldve gone to refs call. But, thaiday pushed a blues player, NOT hannant. That is why it was a penalty. But as a blue im not surprised u dont understand the rules, makes it easier for ppl like gallen to blame the refs :P :P

Hang on a second Queenslander. Did they not give it a try because Thaiday pushed Hannant or because they thought Thaiday pushed a Blues players??? Now Im confised

Because thaiday pushed a blue.

Didn't they say the same thing a few years back when they lost the series. Something along the lines of "We've proved they are beatable" lol.

To me, Origin is like a Tennis match. No one gives a **************** if you win one set (i.e a game). People only care about the overall match result (i.e the series)

I thought it was for pushing Benny as well?

The refs even said what the penalty was for, it was coz thaiday came in over the top and jumped on a blues player which in turn forced hannant down

Yeah, technical ruling is "obstruction" because they ruled Thaiday prevented the NSW defender from preventing a try.

Coxy and I should just ref the next series. I'm sure we would make sure NSW get a fair go..... :haha:

Looks like Gaz is spurting some sauce
