I actually remember reading an article with Walters saying on the weekend that the team will be selected on Monday.

Not sure which one it was or whether he meant the Monday today or next Monday.

It'd be next Monday for sure.. he'd have to wait and see who pulls through next weekends games etc, there's no chance it's named today.

Ponga and Arrow miss the bench but will be in the squad.

That's some supreme confidence he has in his "inside information", lol.

For me the biggest weakness of the team is Gavin Cooper, there's no way he should be there with no Thurston or Morgan starting, he has no combinations to work with, nothing. He's cooked. Would much prefer Papalii starting on the left and Jai on the bench.

I think Papalii would be better off at 13. He has been a beast since moving there.

Hell I'd even pick Guerra over Cooper.

Turns out they have clarified that. According to the NRL website Fifita definitely is not able to play SoO.

To qualify for State of Origin you must be eligible and elect to play for Australia

Gould reckons he wouldn't pick Cordner this year.

NRL legend Phil Gould has left out Boyd Corner from his NSW State of Origin team in a shock move.
Speaking on Nine’s 100% Footy, the former Blues coach revealed his 17-man squad with the glaring omission of last year’s captain which he didn’t hesitate to justify.
“I just don’t think he’s going good enough,” Gould stated.
“I’ve Always questioned his impact at that level as well.
“For me Boyd Corner’s football has stagnated over the past two or three years. He runs the one line, at the one time, every time. There’s nothing varied about his play, never passes the ball.
“He’s willing…he’s got a great work ethic and he’s popular amongst the playing group, but so far as a game breaker and someone who in can provide that moment that might win you a game, I just don’t think he’s going well enough at the moment.”
In his stead Gould backed Tariq Sims and handed the captaincy to James Maloney a move that surprised Cronulla Sharks talisman Paul Gallen.
“I still think you need some experience there, some guys who have been there before and know what it’s all about and he’s(Cordner) one of them for me,” Gallen explained.
“I don’t think he started the year that well either…but I’ve watch him the past couple of weeks and I think he’s certainly picked his game up a whole lot more.
“Come Origin time I think he’ll be ready.”
However Maroons great Darren Lockyer shared a similar sentiment to Gould in Corner’s waning development in recent times.
“I tend to agree with Gus, he’s not going as well as he once was.”
“He can inspire a team with his toughness, but I don’t know if he’s threatening enough on the edge.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if they omit him.
Game one of the 2018 State of Origin kicks off at 8pm on June 6.

I agree with Gould on Cordner's form but no way would I have Sims starting over him or have Wade Graham in the team. Gould has also picked Tamou and Merrin which suggests he was not taking that team selection very seriously.

I would wager that he has the back line spot on and also has the right hooker picked but the rest of the pack is nonsense.

If NSW was going to consider leaving Cordner out the only bloke I would think warrants selection on the edge is Angus Crichton. If it were my team I would have either him or Tariq off the bench.
