State Of Origin - General Discussion

Wtf ? So it's all about the tiny bit of aboriginal dna in the body ? Calling someone indigenous because they've got 5 or 10% in them is plainly ridiculous. Why not call them welsh, irish, french, italian, or any of the background info they have in their bodies ? **** that bullshit about 'identifying'. That logic isn't apparent when Mundines saying " if you're from nsw then support nsw". I recently did a Cultural Awareness course up in the Pilbara and the course leaders openly and plainly said that people had no right to claim they are indigenous when a big list (they outlined criteria) wasn't satisfied. Simply having a few drops wasn't anywhere near enough.

Mundines open racism has been apparent before especially when condemning a boxing opponent for marrying a 'white' girl. He is a prize racist fuckwit.

It's not really about the % of indigenous DNA. If someone has indigenous heritage and feels connected to thier culture and heritage and have formally been recognised as being indigenous they have every right to identify as being indigenous. If the person is white, it's obvious that they aren't 50%-95% aboriginal. Your point of "why not identify with being Welsh, Irish ect is interesting... Why not identify as being indigenous if you're family has indigenous heritage?

What I wanna know is why nrl.com are giving this fuckwit and this story any exposure at all.

Because he is gonna play for St George next year. He has the green light from Doust and everything. They are gonna sack Hunt and Widdop and Mundine is gonna play both positions or else everybody is a racist.

Because you want to play for the NSW Blues, and in a period when they've lost 11 out of th elast 12 series, surely they aren't going to pick you if you identify yourself as indigenous, when they could pick someone less skilfull, but who is white.

You kind of missed the point but kind of didn't. I'll let @Huge explain though since he wrote it.

Mundine is a dickhead and a shit stirrer sure but there have definitely been deserving indigenous players in the past that have missed out. There have also been plenty of deserving non-indiginious players who missed out.

When enough indigenous players miss out, rightly or wrongly, I could forgive someone for at least quietly questioning if it were a pattern or a coincidence.

Then when you add in the Andrew John’s “Black ****” coaching approach to firing up the blues, and then the following trashing that Tahu copped for quietly ducking out the back door, I can see why this may create a view of a anti-black culture within the team.

I would definitely find it hard as an indigionous person, to support a team who’s coaching staff openly threw around racist comments.

Yes, some of this is true HOWEVER there is a great deal more to a declaration about being indigenous. If someone has indigenous heritage they obviously have other heritage too. That's the point that these aboriginal instructors/ course leaders were referring to when they utterly rejected those that discover they have a usually very small amount of aboriginal dna but have never had any connection (nebulous description) or felt connected to the culture. What I despise is the claiming, 'I'm indigenous' when they learn about the one sixteenth or whatever is in their body. Why weren't those same people proclaiming their 'heritage' , you know the 95% welsh, irish, Scandinavian etc that makes up the overwhelming majority of their dna ?

Indigenous bandwagoning.

I fully understand where you are coming from. I guess it just comes down to the individual and what heritage they feel connected to, as long as they are identifying for the right reasons I'd encourage it. I do agree that there are a lot of bandwagon cases that wouldn't know the first thing about "their culture" tho

NSW’s backline is scarily potent, but is ripe to be pulled apart defensively. Not only that, but Inglis and Chambers are experienced defenders at all levels of the game, and our entire back 5 are dangerous themselves.

I think we’re in with a real shot TBH. We really just have to have our starting forwards hold their own, which suits their no-frills nature, and then allow the more damaging Hess and Papalii to come in when the game opens up.

Just hope Inglis’s knee is up to keeping a check on Roberts’s speed. It was slightly scary seeing Inglis burnt by was it Aitken? Trusting he’ll step up as Captain and use his experience to outsmart Roberts if he can’t outrun him.

So what day is everyone expecting the mystery virus to sweep through the Qld camp? I'll go with Sunday.

My question is what are they doing to spread the suspiciously timed ‘mystery virus’. Team bonding to a whole new level?

Don't know but it happens every year. Sometimes more than once.
