State of Origin III - Queensland vs NSW - Pre-Match Discussion

I'd go with Copley too, not just the size and strength, more for his speed which we need and ability to find the try line. Please he can cover centre if needed.

imagine if we still had Folau and JYY kicking around, NSW would still be up against it for a few years yet.

Some perspective which is sorely lacking on here:

First of all we now realise how important Cronk is.
Second of all we lost our best prop early on.
Third of all we lose our hit-up machine Tate.

But most importantly the times when the QLD of old would have taken their opportunities and run a set play they derped it up, fumbled it and ended up looking like NSW of years past.

Cut out the stupid errors and play some fucken football next time.

Re: the Mal's ego post in that closed thread.

It seemed like winning 8 series wasn't enough, he thought he was so good he could "redefine" the game too. He thought he could make front rowers irrelevant.

This is when like half of the best players in recent years have been middle third specialists (Civo, Webcke, Price, Scott, Myles, Gallen etc).

I suspect if the refs had kept a decent ten metres, he may have got away with it.

Based purely on nothing but assumption.

Which is still pure fantasy.

Next time 1910 will have to lend Mal your number. Clearly he needs to keep his ego in check and realise who the real supercoach is.

I'm just calling it like it is. Every coach has relied on front rowers. It's not rocket science.

now that things have calmed down a bit, i realise this has been the worst we've played for 8 years. nsw didn't out play us, we just derped it up in the last 10-15 mins. no one took control and just kicked to the corners. locky was the master at this. so i don't think there'll be many changes, taylor and tate will be the definite changes. mcqueen seems to be pencilled in for the next few origins

17 Te'o

Assuming Scott, Papalii & Cronk are still injured.

Honestly, Slater has to step aside. He is not the best fullback in the Queensland team anymore.

On the NRL site now, Watmough failed in his bid to have his Grade 2 throw downgraded, will now miss 4 games obviously including Game III.

Inconsistency again, although this one WAS the right decision. So Bird and Watmough have to sit out Origin games, yet Reynolds could play. Go NSWRL...still in charge, boys...

Vidot can't be picked this year, and Harrison is retiring too (I think?). Not worth picking him now IMO.

Disagree. He is equal best .. with Inglis. I thought Slater was good last night in a shitty game plan.

Inglis however is completely wasted at centre the way the current game plan is structured. His immense impact is largely blunted. I would like to see him drop back with Slater on kick returns so both can run the ball back supporting each other.

Inglis is so so far ahead of Hayne it's not funny.

DCE was under used and for mine was not 100% fit. His involvement was a bit less than I would have liked despite some great tackles and that individual play where he almost scored. I would have preferred Hunt to play. Thurston was asked to do too much and I suspect because DCE was being nursed.

The significance Qld's spine of Slater, Cronk, Thurston and Smith cannot be under-emphasized. The whole team is structured around them.

However for Game 3, DCE will be there and if 100% he is the right choice.

I agree with Hannant for Lillyman.

Slater
Boyd
Inglis
Hodges
Vidot
Thurston
DCE (Cronk but I doubt it - our losses are, for mine largely because he was absent. He and Thurston would dominate)
Myles
Smith
Scott
Thaiday
Gillett (yes, he made some mistakes but who didn't - and he was the only forward who actually bent their line but there was no offloads 'cos there was no support).
Parker

McGuire
Hannant
Taylor
Guerra

We really missed Parker big time

.

Could really use Vidot on kick returns. Harrison has never, ever, ever let us down. He deserves a swansong IMO. But also because I don't like either McQueen or Guerra. I know that this game is ideal to give the youth more experience, but they've both been underwhelming. McQueen we all kind of agree on. But Guerra... he looked good in game 1, but in hindsight we have to remember he was next to Inglis. NSW had numbers on him, which is why Guerra was able to make so many metres. I'd prefer him to McQueen, but honestly I'd rather start Te'o. Gillett can go back to the bench so he knows he has to improve his tackling.

After having a bit of a think about it, I wouldn't mind seeing this for game 3, hopefully Corey is good to play. With Tate now more than likely retiring, we need to start thinking about future scenarios, I think it's ideal that we use this opportunity to move Inglis to fullback whilst he's still in his prime, move Billy to the wing for his last few years where he can still have an impact, and blood our next centre in line, which will probably be Chambers or Tonga, although I hope they use this dead rubber to give Gagai or Copley a run.

1. Inglis
2. Boyd
3. Gagai
4. Hodges
5. Slater
6. Thurston
7. Cherry-Evans
8. McGuire
9. Smith
10. Myles
11. Thaiday
12. Gillett
13. Parker

14. Hannant
15. Lillyman
16. Guerra
17. McQueen

Matt Scott - Injured
Josh Papalii - Injured
Cooper Cronk - Injured
Brent Tate - Injured / Won't be around next year
Ben Te'o - Dropped / Won't be around next year
Dave Taylor - Dropped

And there was no way that DCE or Slater were fit. If they were, our game plan would have utilised them more. Why else would they have looked to Hodges to throw an inside ball to to split them up the middle. That's a Slater play every day of the week. Even an 'out of form / ageing' Slater would have eaten that up and tried to go around Hayne.
