Underbelly: Waldron's Secret Safe

Well, Melbourne have also lost a fair few players.

I find it interesting that of the 1.7m over 5 years, 700k was this year. That means the other years were only averaging 250k, which isn't really THAT much compared to 700k. Their team isn't even that great this year either.

You think Carl Williams dobbed them in and someone at the storm had him killed?

don't know if its been said but didn't the storm ceo jump ship recently to take over the super 15 new franchise...... Smart man huh. Knew what was coming... And bailed. Now when the dust settles expect to see the new franchise pick up some awesome league talent.

Also **** the Storm and there players. The players knew. 2 contracts had to be signed. Footy players are not as dumb as portrayed. All those with 2 contracts are nothing but cheats and fraudsters. I hope the club colapses. I hate those Melboure players.

Did Izzy sign 2? Or did he leave when they asked him to sign 2?

It sounds like he could be the one who orchestrated it all, he could potentially be under criminal investigation. Not smart at all.

This may have damaged this sport to the point of almost no return. They should not have done this in any way shape or form however, a lot of blame must sit with the NRL for being so negative toward player retention measures outside its very stringent salary cap.

The salary cap is a restriction of trade and forces some of our best to leave and others to sacrifice good money to stay. They need to sort out the structure of the Sydney clubs so we have less teams spreading the talent with more money spread amongst less clubs so the 'best of the best' stay and are fully rewarded for their abilities both for staying with the sport and for staying at one club.

a 2 Tier comp in time would work.

A 2 tier comp is f#cking stupid. The second tier wouldn't get crowds or ratings and would die a quick and painful death. They need to merge Sydney clubs so they can start affording to pay the players big money and not make losses year after year. With Australia's population base we cannot afford to have a 16 team comp with all the teams on the Eastern seaboard saturating each other.

The NRL did the right thing, but they have to know that the competition is in serious trouble now.

Melbourne will be lucky to have a team at the end of the season. SNowball effect will come.

I find this article about Brian Waldron leaving the Storm very intersting from January 2010, the journo might have ESPN or something.

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/nrl/d ... 5818241824

HE KNOWS the combination to the most valuable vault in Australian football.

But Melbourne CEO Brian Waldron has promised that treasured NRL trio Billy Slater, Greg Inglis and Cameron Smith will remain under lock and key at the Storm - despite his shock defection to new cross-city Super Rugby rival the Melbourne Rebels.

Waldron was the man who drew up the million-dollar contracts for each of the three international stars, meaning he's familiar with the intimate clauses of their ongoing relationship with the Storm.

Such privileged knowledge would appear to be a dangerous weapon in the hands of rugby union, which has exploited superior cash reserves to steal a host of top league talent in recent years.

Although the Rebels have been linked to off-contract Test half Johnathan Thurston, Waldron last night said his impending move across enemy lines would not be of any concern to Storm fans.

All those involved should be publicly shot with a ball of thier own shit.

I'm still coming to terms with this. It is a monumental kick in the nads for League.

I hope someone drops a safe on Brian Waldrons head. Absolute fucking scumbag piece of shit.

I knew their was something fishy going on up their with all those marquee players and my hunch was right. CHEATS!!!!

Now the question is: Should we be concerned- the likes of izzy, Lockyer, Hodges and kempy just to name a few worries me a little. Don't jump on my back or anything because i'm not saying we are, i'm just putting the idea forward to think about.

Kemp? Nah mate, he wouldn't be on a lot.

Our big earners would be Lockyer, Hodges and Folau as you say, along with Thaiday, Wallace and possibly Parker.
