Storm Vs. Broncos - Build Up Thread

How many weeks have we been doing that now?

Ballamy isn't the type of coach to take a used game plan to. His troops will be shutting that play down all night. IMO.

So what you are saying is that WB had no idea re game plans as he didn't shut it down......please.
Bellamy will mention it, in fact he probably won't need to, but being able to shut it down is another thing.

Wally has been in great form the last month or so and will be missed big-time, but on saying that I expect Locky to step up and no doubt step up he will icon_thumbs_u

We've played the Titans, while it was a tough game, they really aren't anything special, and the Dragons, who again, down on form, down on confidence. We're playing the Storm. This team are leaps and bounds ahead of the rest of the teams, us included.

There is absolutely no way they would allow us to complete our "tricky shit". We're going to need something a little more special than what we've been doing recently.

Let's see, since the Broncos run started in Round 22, the Storm's results:

Round 22: def Cowboys 20-8
Round 23: lost to Newcastle 26-14
Round 24: lost to Manly 20-16
Round 25: def Roosters 38-4
Round 26: def Warriors 30-0
QF: def Manly 40-12

So in their last 6 matches they've beaten comfortably 3 teams outside the top 8, and then smashed an extremely lacklustre Manly in the first week of the finals.

Then they've had a week off.

I don't think their form is "leaps and bounds" ahead of the rest of the teams. To be honest they haven't had to repel much defensively, and when they have had to they've been found out by both Manly and Newcastle.

Unlike the commentators and bookies, I don't think the Storm are the premiership favourites everyone says. That honour, to me, falls to the Bulldogs now they have Kimmorley back - and the Eels.

In fact, whoever wins out of the Broncos and Storm is going to have a **** of a fight to win the premiership.

Thank you! I'm sick of people saying they're the form team, ffs they beat 3 rubbish teams, we have beaten all quality teams in our run to the finals. Roosters are absolute garbage, Warriors are just as bad and Manly had trouble beating a 12 man Cronulla team.

IMO, we are just as good as any other team and although the job is harder without Wallace we can still win the comp.

I wouldn't say we've beaten "All quality teams" in our run to the finals. Cronulla were shit (but we needed an "easy" game to get into the winners circle). Penrith, well, we started their rapid decline out of finals contention in that second half. Dragons were starting their slump, but it was still a damn good win by us. Cowboys were a debacle at the end of the season, but they did throw everything at us. Canberra, despite flogging us last time, have been shit on the road all year. That was a gimme game.

Our two finals have been different types of games, but the reason our opponents faltered was because of the pressure our defence put them under (at least in the first half against the Tits).

Yep, I totally agree. I reckon our run to the finals has been perfect, we've had to verse good defensive teams, good attacking teams, the teams we've smashed had all went downlhill since we beat them and our defence has been a feature.

Yesterday during the first 15 minutes the defence was brutal, after getting repeatedly smashed the Draqueens players couldn't run it up with the same confidence and from that point they kept dropping the ball every few sets. If we defend like that again against Melbourne I have no doubt we can win but we need to make the most of our chances, we can't let try scoring opportunities go begging.

Storm's pack dominates by being clinical. They don't focus on a massive go forward, or by playing pretty. They just get some consistent momentum (rucks and dummyhalf runs) and work the ball to whichever side of the field Cronk wants so they can attack back towards Inglis and co.

Strong marker defence and hammer those ruck runners, prevent their go forward, and try and force their forwards to offload, just as the Dragons did.

Broncos just need to control possession like we did in the first half against the tits and all game against the Dragons and the game is ours, whoever we put in at 7.

Alright. But can we beat the Dogs or Eels?

It sucks, I don't want to lose to Melbourne yet again, but I don't want to lose a Grand Final.

If we can beat melbourne in melbourne, we are a massive chance to win the GF!

I am massively against playing a 2nd rower at halfback. We have been playing so well lately because everyone is understanding of their role. It's when players like Hodges and Lockyer are trying to do to much that the wheels start to come off.

this was brought up on another forum and i quite like the idea.

start either Tunza, Parker, Glenn or Te'o at half with Ben Hunt on the bench. that way we have the back rower absorbing the start of the game which IMO is going to be brutal defence and when it eases off a bit bring on Ben Hunt and move our back rower back to the back row. i reckon we could bring Hunt on after about 20mins.

thoughts?

I dislike that option even more. Why? Because it changes our game plan completely.

Looks like we won't know what's happening for a while:

Coach Ivan Henjak would not be drawn into revealing his hand on Monday although he said he had a "pretty good idea" of what he may do.

"There are a lot (of options)," he said.

"They'll all train there at some stage and we'll make a decision later in the week.

"We'll see who handles what we want to do in the game the best."

Yep. Whoever gets named tomorrow will be unlikely to be the one who lines up at halfback on Saturday night.
