Storm Vs. Broncos - Build Up Thread

I hope if we lose this game that Smith is suspended again and has to miss the GF for the second year in a row [icon_evillaugh

Here is a useless stat someone at Saturdays game told me...

every time the Broncos have made the prelim final (week 3) they have won the premiership. eusa_think

but i also saw on the footy Show (or Sunday Roast) this week that the Storm have made 4 prelim finals and have made the GF from all 4 eusa_think

so to sum up

Broncos 6 Preliminary finals for 6 premierships

vrs

Storm 4 Preliminary finals for 4 Grand Finals

eusa_think

this will be a cracker of a game

We got beaten in the preliminary finals in 2001 by Parra and in 2002 by the Roosters.

Don't worry guys.

We've got Henjak - Hoodoo Hunter!

Statistics? Ha! He eats that s**t for breakfast.

Something I think we will really miss from Wallace are his quick passes inside to Hunt running into gaps. They really seem to help us build momentum in attack. Man it sucks that he is out :( Could be worse though, could be Lockyer.

I don't agree I think Wallace used the play too often and the Storm will see it coming every time. Wallace will be missed he has had a good few weeks and looked to be stamping his authority on the finals. IMO Hunt will play 7 and either crash and burn or produce the goods and we will win.

One potential problem is that this will be such a test of character for Bhunt - if we fail, which could happen, a lot of questions will be asked of Bhunt, when he has a really short track and not awesome track record

If worse comes to worse Brissie could go all Simsy on Bhunt, the kids confidence hits rock bottom and ends up sharing drinks with Brett Seymour - and that would be a real shame as it is an exciting time for the broncos

I agree but if the Broncos lose to Melbourne it will not be because Ben Hunt has a bad game. All he has to do is his job even if he does play poorly he won't provide the outcome of the game on his own. Lockyer , McCullough and KHUNT will do most of the play making with young Hunt doing very little.

[icon_lol1. That would be the only thing that would make losing worth it... Almost [icon_wink

One question.

We've had some pretty tough games of late. Can we mentally, and physically keep this up for another two games?

A grand final berth is begging, i'd like to think the players have the strength to stay motivated.

They looked really focused after the match last night, no over the top celebrations or anything.

But these are the sort of games you want to have leading to a GF, they keep you on your toes and keep you from getting complacent - they boys will get to chill out once we win it

+1

Also, young players like Yow Yeh and Winterstein have a LOT of confidence now as they have been playing well in the past few weeks.

Agreed, no reason not to for now.

I'm not going to head hunt anyone if things don't turn out though - personally I think 2009 is a great success for the Broncos already.

In saying that - that doesn't excuse a piss poor performance. If we go out there play with the attitude and commitment we have shown in the past seven weeks - there is NO reason we can't win it.

Wow, so this is like the sixth year in a row that we've met the Storm at some time throughout the finals series! The only one we've won was the biggest of them all. This one will be the second biggest, let's hope we can replicate 2006.

04,05, 06, 07,08 and now 09.

That makes it 6 years in a row - yes! Incredible. We've definitely got a rivalry between us particularly since the 06 GF and having so many queenslanders in their team from that point on.

We've only beat them once - but in the one that matters!! icon_thumbs_u

Does anyone have any memories of Hunt being charged or suspended recently? Apparently he's likely to come under scrutiny for the "trip".

Grade 1 tripping carries 75 demerit points, so if he's got a clean record he'll be fine, but if he's got carry over points or gets a higher charge then we're in trouble.

I am pretty sure he was originally charged for that shoulder charge that broke Braith Anasta's nose. He could've taken the early guilty plea and been able to play the following week but Bruno decided it was worth risking a week and fighting it because he didn't deserve to have it on his record. In the end they found him not guilty so the charge didn't go on his record, so I think we've got Bruno to thank for Karmichael being able to play this week!
