NEWS Sunday Mail: Fifita still dithering

Can someone point me at the entitled parts of his quotes? I swear I must have missed something
When asked if he owed the Broncos for bailing him out of the Bali drunk tank, he said:

“They had to do what they’ve got to do – that’s their job, to look after their players. The wellbeing officer, Adam Walsh, did a really good job with me over there. They have been supportive because I’m with the Broncos and that’s their job – to be supportive of a player of theirs.[/QUOTE]

My mistake, quotes like these sound entitled to me. Sorry if I took it wrong and instead is full of humility and gratitude.

Why sign a contract before you know what is potentially on the table if you hold out?

There's countless amount of people in here endlessly calling for older players to retire to free up some money. If the guy holds out there might be a bit more money on the table. As much as it is for "love of the game" it's still a business.

The entitled ones are the people complaining as though the guy owes them something "right now" as fans. If his form takes and even bigger lift, he can ask for more (he was valued at a million last year) and if doesn't he can take what's on offer. That's his choice and right to do that. It sounds like his mum has it pretty set on him staying in Brisbane.

He’s still a kid, so I’m cutting him some slack, and sounds like mum still rules with an iron fist, so we have that in our favour. But I agree about the concerns of idiots like Roberts and co getting in his ear while he is still young and impressionable

Must admit, how he put that doesnt sound great. Its also not any employers responsibility to look after their employee when they commit acts of stupidity in another country.

If you read my post without rushing to make sweeping statements I have no issue with the hold up in signing, my issue is the statements about the Broncos having to get him out of Bali etc etc. I thought it was pretty clear.

I'm happy that he and Gwen have finally come out and talked about Bali.
I have no reason not to believe them and what they are saying.
From all reports David is a very respectful young man. There was never any proof that he touched anyone, that video that was released could have been him hanging off the side of the bike and giving someone a hi-five.
Bali can be corrupt, and that's a fact. I love the place, been there multiple times and it is a heap of fun. There are areas where you need to be super careful, and nightclubs are pretty much the number 1.
Dave isn't going anywhere, he will stay in Brisbane, I have no doubts. He and Payne are 2 of our future and long term leaders. He knows that something special is brewing at the club. If reports are true, the 700k that we are offering won't be that far behind any of the other clubs in Sydney. I can't see anyone offering him over 900k per season. He still lives at home, he is 19 - he will get his chance to earn the big $$ at the club if he continues his growth.
Hopefully we can lock him up ASAP as I am sick of hearing these stories.

Sure, but I wasn't specifically referring to your post. There's other posts on this thread, and there's plenty of threads in this forum of people expressing angst over him taking his time.
With reference to his quote you have an issue with, I'd suggest taking it with a large grain of salt. It's so easy to twist things someone says with any spin a journalist wants. He's a young guy and probably being instructed by his manager on what to say at the moment with an eye to contract negotiations. Also, sometimes the things we mean don't necessarily come out in what we say, especially when someone is young and being interview by the media, and might not have the biggest vocabulary. I can't think of the amount of times I've watched a young footballer be interviewed and see them confuse two different euphenisms or sayingsI don't think it's worth getting upset at the guy over.
Vocal tone and body language are so important, as is a bigger context.
He signs or he doesn't sign, but if people are trying to say he should because the Broncos bailed him out, that's rubbish. He should sign because he wants to be a part of the club and it the best option for him and his family. I believe in loyalty but I also respect where the game is at, and have no belief anyone should tell someone else what they should do.

Look I fundamentally disagree with what you are saying and I think we all give footballers too much credit. Let’s not pretend he doesn’t mean what he says here. I am not claiming Fifita is a member of MENSA but he does look like he can tie his own shoes and therefore knows all to well the meaning of the complex phrase ‘They did what they had to do’

“I’ve got to play good footy. That’s how I repay them.”

Strange words coming from someone that’s entitled and doesn’t feel like he owes the Broncos. Why would you say you want to repay them if you feel like you don’t owe anything?

About what he said, it IS their job. That’s what player welfare is, looking after their players and ensuring they have support through tough situations. Their job was to help get him out of that situation.

If he was wearing a different jersey you might have a different opinion.

You know, it's not hard to go on holiday and not act like a twat and get yourself in trouble. I don't have someone at my job who can bail me out.

Because the question was ‘do you owe the Broncos’. The alternative answer was ‘no’ so kudos David.

lol I wasn’t being sarcastic. I actually couldn’t find the quotes. That does sound pretty entitled. I mean he’s right but it’s ugly to hear. It’s like telling ya misses you wouldn’t be attracted to her if she got fat.

Maybe someone has burnt him at the club? Or maybe hes getting advice off certain older players .

Or maybe the Broncs staff told him that's what their job is when he undoubtedly told them how thankful he was. Maybe they told him "hey, no worries. It's what we do".

Maybe that's where his "attitude" towards the matter comes from.

The club would be the asshole if they said anything other no wuckers Dave.

Imagine if they thought they now had him as a hostage for life, now that would be fucked up.

Another article from the CM regarding Dave to the tits.
Surely its time we put a ban on Badel

Haha yeah ok.

Or maybe the Broncos did in fact pay out for the extortion, and go way beyond what they could otherwise do salary-cap wise, and David is trying to downplay it as "they just did their job" to not arouse suspicion.

Imagine if he said "they went above and beyond to facilitate my release" and you'd have a few hundred thousand Broncos haters asking "Oh so the Broncos just swept it all under the rug and paid to get their thug out of jail with no punishment"?

Not much in the story from the same authors - no new quotes. Here's the guts of it. All speculation and rumour. Mind reading bolded:

"That has now changed, with Fifita’s manager Steve Deacon fielding a call from Titans bosses seeking a formal meeting with the forward. "

"Brisbane are firmly in the box seat to retain Fifita, and they are still highly confident of keeping him, but if the issue solely came down to money, the Titans could outbid them. The Broncos’ salary cap constraints this season mean Brisbane are likely to offer Fifita a one or two-year deal with a view to offering him a more lucrative mega contract as he approaches his mid-20s. The Titans can table a huge package immediately. It is believed Meninga has the salary-cap room to offer a four-year deal worth up to $800,000 a season – a $3.2 million bonanza."

"Fa’asuamaleaui will link with the Titans next year when he completes his commitments to the Storm and he has already phoned Fifita spruiking the merits of joining him on the Gold Coast."
