OFFICIAL Te Maire Martin Signs Three Year Deal with the Warriors

I disagree that Billy is "above average." I think at best he is "average." Which isn't an insult considering he was barely wooden spoon first grade standard when we signed him. But I think this is as good as it will ever get for him. He should go to market in England with it.

All I'm asking is at what point will you feel uncomfortable that Billy Walters is our first choice hooker, when he was only ever a stop gap depth signing?

For me, I think it will be game one, 2023.

In my opinion we have a potential premiership team here. I can realistically see us winning the premiership next season with this squad. Do you think Billy Walters is a premiership hooker? Do you wonder why he's the logical choice given the dearth of options? Why do we find ourselves with this dearth of options when it's not the case in any other position?

Te Maire is the first player we're losing who looks like a premiership standard player. Well to me, anyway. I expect many of you will be similarly upset when Herbie leaves. But that will because we have too much depth in his positions.

As for Te Maire not being a hooker, neither was Billy. He never wanted to play there. He's only playing 9 because he wasn't good enough to play 6.
Sorry aren’t we (reportedly) losing a fullback to gain a fullback?

Billy does a good enough job of ‘holding’ the middle, until Paix comes on, straightens up our attack and points usually start flowing.

He was signed as depth and has improved to the point he can no longer honestly be called that.

But no-one ever said he is a long term No.9 and (by the way) he has also already played number 9 at NRL level, before he came to our club, so it’s not only Kevin that saw that in him…

Billy's been great. We started winning games when he came into the 9. He's also got a but of mongrel in him which is good to see. Not many elite hookers available and when we have an elite 6 7 1 and 13 we are going to be okay

Putting my McHunt hat on (uncomfortable as it may be)

Billy Walters is a shit hooker and we should have someone better in the position - is an opinion

Billy Walters is a shit hooker and the only reason he is getting a gig here is nepotism because he is the coach's son and because of that conflict of interest he is costing us (I think the list so far is TMM, Herbie etc) so his dad should be finding him a position in ESL - that my friend is an agenda. You can usually tell an agenda because it is oft repeated and regularly not based on logical factual conclusions.
Get meds.

Comment is that we're starting to lose players worth keeping. There's only one player we need to upgrade. He happens to be the coach's son. Is this going to become a conflict of interest? I don't know. Maybe. The rest is too tedious to bother re-iterating. Apparently I'm a secret agent with a nefarious agenda for even asking. I'm probably Russian or something.

Have to rush, I need to slip into a phonebox and change into Peter Badel.

Quick question Pete, we aren’t you on 360 anymore?

The focus should be on why Walsh is named to start at fullback this week, having been dropped to the bench for last Saturday’s game against the Raiders.

Warriors coach Stacey Jones said he wanted to teach Walsh a lesson with the move, although surely it makes more sense that this point to leave the 20-year old out of the team?

So how do we feel about losing Te Maire Martin to retain Billy Walters?

In my opinion, Billy has been perfect for us to date, has earned his position, but is now the last weak link in the premiership winning squad his father is building. I think his old man should find him a position in the ESL while he's on a roll. Before he's forced to drop him. Which must happen.

I'm not calling it nepotism, but by next season it will be a clear conflict of interest. He came into the squad as a 6, has been fashioned into our starting 9 and has been picked every week this season, barring the last through injury. He's been good enough. No question. But that's the only position left we need to improve.

The decision to invest in him will cost us Turpin, who in fairness hasn't put up a fight. Kelly will no doubt also leave. No one is too bothered by either. But Te Maire is a notch above Billy. Could he have slotted into 9? I think so. And what if Gamble leaves? And what about Tesi? Where could he potentially fit in?

At what point do we start to feel uncomfortable?

I'd say right about now, when you make absurd false claims.

We are not losing TMM to keep Billy, good grief man you post a lot of dribble.

I think you are judging Billy harshly .

Interested in what areas another #9 would improve the team ?

Why did you bench Walsh?

Stacey: I wanted to teach him a lesson

Well, why did you pick him back in the starting team after the dumb idea of bringing him on for the last 10 minutes made him play terrible ?

Stacey: I learned my lesson

I think the answer to the questions you are asking is that no one is concerned about any of this except you. Which might indicate something, if you reflect on it.
