OFFICIAL Tevita Pangai is not our problem anymore

Developing:

At this stage it looks like he's seeing out 2021 and joining the Dogs next year, with Brisbane releasing him from his 2022 contract. If that's the case, the club won't need to subsidize the deal.

Well they should make it clear. I am big supporters of them but I am sick of the club treating the fans like arseholes.
Normally I’d agree, but in this instance I’m glad there are no more leaks or airing our laundry. You don’t hear any news / leaks from the top run sides in the comp.

Fingers crossed with DD and Ikin now in command we’ll be on an upright trajectory

Leaks in the press are obviously the issue people have.

Official statements from the club are different

how would you feel if you're the player that gets dropped for TPJ after helping get the Panthers into the position they're in...
Apparently JFH is going to leave the bubble to be with family until the finals.

You think as soon as he comes back, the Panthers won’t keep TPJ in the team?
Isnt that the panthers problem if someone gets their panties in a twist if he does or doesnt displace a member of their squad?

I dont know about you but i will be laughing my ass off if it causes disharmony at the panthers and derails their finals push

Tevita Pangai Jr will join the Penrith Panthers for the remainder of the season, effective immediately, before switching to the Canterbury Bulldogs next year.

Penrith CEO
Brian Fletcher:

“It’s still in the process of happening but it will happen in the next 24 hours. We are just waiting on a little bit of paperwork to be done at the other end (from the Broncos) and it will be finished. Tevita will join the Panthers on Monday, August 2 and prepare for the Roosters game at the end of the week."

“On Tuesday morning, I announced nothing was happening which it wasn’t. Then at 11am, an hour later, the football manager Matt Cameron rang me and said Ivan Cleary was on the phone, he wasn’t aware that Fisher-Harris would miss up to three games and Ivan felt we should make another play for Tevita."

“We were one big body short so the play restarted for Tevita.”

“We had plenty of space in the salary cap, we had 29 players signed so we had a space available,” Fletcher said. “We needed the tick off from the NRL and we got that, then it was up to Tevita’s manager to negotiate with the Broncos for a release and away we go. The Broncos aren’t in a bubble so he can transfer to the Sunshine Coast.”

Trent Barrett:

“Being able to bring a forward of Tevita’s quality to the club is a massive boost for our playing group for next season and beyond. He is a great ball runner and strong defender and someone who will be the perfect fit with the other forwards that we have."

“He is also a player with international experience who has performed well on that stage and someone who can be a leader within our group. I know that everyone at the club is excited about Tevita joining us next season and we believe that he will be a major asset moving forward.”

Ben Ikin:

“We wish Tevita all the best and we believe the fresh start is a good result for him and for the Broncos,” he said. “Our club is moving through a process of making decisions for the long-term good of the playing roster and as a result we are seeing some players depart."

“We have also had a number of players re-sign and extend with the Broncos in recent months, as well as some high-quality players decide to join us here in Brisbane. We are making good progress in finalising our squad for the 2022 season and beyond, and we will continue to work closely with all of our players as we complete that process.”

Wish him the best but I don't see how he furthers his career going from Brisbane to Canterbury, both teams are as bad as each other

The club isn't going to come out and tell everyone their recruitment plan in an official statement.

Ikin and DD aren't stupid. There will be things bubbling away in the background that not even Hot Scoop Badel would know.
They could definitely come out and say "nah we aren't paying a cent for him next year" though

I know I've said this already but this whole situation ticks me off no end. We will be better off in the long run without this idiot but who knows when that long run will be.

We may well benefit one day from these stupid mercenary rules but they just aren't right, this is not how a professional sports organisation should be run, I hope like the Roosters last year, the Panthers crash and burn but I suspect they won't.

The fact this bloke can shop himself around last year and then again this year and get out of it with a BETTER contract and a shot at a premiership just isn't right, he should not benefit from his selfish behaviour and yet here we are.

NRL you suck and you will continue to lose me as a fan until such time as you clean this disgrace of a sport up.

Of course it will Capewell that will be dropped to make way for TPJ so we'll get him in good nick hopefully.

Screw that, we are likely paying for him to play elsewhere when we could have sacked him last year and paid nothing, ticks me off.

They are saying his Canterbury deal is 3 years at 2.2m, that's a whole new contract if that's the case

He can't get 2 contracts, so I am thinking perhaps he might be completely off our books? I don't really know but it doesn't make a lot of sense either

But as has been mentioned, it would be nice for our club to come out and actually say that but I suspect they can't.

Maybe this is the reason they let him go, they knew he had some value on the market and would get a whole new deal given that he's a quality player, if that's not the reason then I don't know what the reason is.

I suspect it is because he is an absolute moron and a really cancerous influence around the group and hey, why would he change? He has benefitted massively from all this.

I don't really mind him going to the Dogs, but this whole Penrith thing reallly stinks. It's just another example of the NRL being perfectly happy for the bottom teams to suffer if it means the top teams benefit. Never let it be said that the NRL doesn't play favorites, because they fucking do.
