OFFICIAL Tevita Pangai is not our problem anymore

Developing:

At this stage it looks like he's seeing out 2021 and joining the Dogs next year, with Brisbane releasing him from his 2022 contract. If that's the case, the club won't need to subsidize the deal.

Tevita will likely be pocketing ~ $1 million a season from the deal, with the Broncos chipping in a $250k lump sum as part of a severance package.

Bulldogs CEO Aaron Warburton:

“We are thrilled to have someone like Tevita. We believe we are paying market value for Tevita and there is upside in him. ’Gus’ Gould and Trent Barrett were very straight with Tevita that there will be hard work ahead but there is also great rewards."

“Gus has been in communication with Tevita and he has been in contact with him. Tevita has X-factor. The way the game is evolving, his ability to break the line and his footwork for someone his size is first-class."

“Tevita is someone who, under the right leadership and coaching, can go to the next level.”

“We were always hopeful of getting Tevita. Over the past few months, there have been a few players who have stayed with their current clubs, but we were confident our offer was a good one and that someone like Tevita would believe in what we are building. We did our due diligence on Tevita. He still has some maturing on the field to do and that’s exciting. He has leadership qualities. The best for Tevita is yet to come.”

Ikin:

“Everyone is glad that things have been resolved with Tevita. We’ve had to make some tough calls with our roster and there’s a whole stack of considerations that need to be taken into account. At this stage, our plan is for Tevita to finish the year with us, but there’s a few clubs that could look at him for this year. He is keen to lock away his future and in the last few days we have been working through this with his agent.”

That $250k better be this season and not next.

Yes Aaron, TPJ really likes what you’re building at the Dogs, like the new pool you’ve added to the training facilities…

Gasnier/Dragons did it over 10 years ago, he came back and played from Round 17 and won a comp on a pro rata amount.

SBW didn't start this.
Yeah they back ended the deal to appease the nrl iirc and then retired before they had to pay him the big bucks year of his contract. Was dodgy from start to finish.

I can only imagine it's an incentive to **** off a year early because I think he genuinely didn't want to leave? But Sheesh 250k better be BS.

That's only an estimate: the real amount is upwards of $200k or up to $300k.

Still doesn’t make sense, it’s a longer deal on more money, if he didn’t leave it would only hurt himself. If he refused to go the club could easily have called his bluff & sat him in qld cup the rest of the year. It really doesn’t make sense to me.

I agree with you. One note though is he happily sat out the last half of last season. I don’t know if he’d care if it happened again.

He would care if it cost him the dogs deal because Brisbane decided they won't release him. There's got to be more to it, we could easily have played hard ball if he refused to go without a golden handshake.

He will still be suspended.
It’s a shame they are letting go of Napa. Can you imagine TPJ and Napa in the same team.

They could compete with each other to see who could become the next Danny Williams.

They still have Hetherington.

Does anybody know. Does anybody care anymore.

Don’t care, honestly.

But it did make me wonder, does forward paying mean the players get taxed more as their income increased? Or when you earn get paid big money, you’re already in the highest bracket anyway?

These guys would be on 45c/dollar tax rate. Unless they take on tax obligations themselves as a contractor and funnel through a structure.

Officially gone.
Apparently we are paying half his wage whilst at penriff and 250k to the dogs for next year.
Imagine us being able to get a quality player from another club and have that club chip in 1/3 of his wage. It’ll just never happen..
When’s this club going to stand for something and stop getting walked all over by other clubs? And before anyone comes out and says we will be front ending deals, if that is the case Ikin or DD should be telling its members/fans what this money is going towards.
It just seems crazy that we are still paying wages of:
Bird
Offa
Lodge
TPJ
Macca
And potentially Milford
Whilst we dwindle at the bottom of the ladder and these blokes run out for other teams, roll us, and still collect their pay cheque from the Broncos.
It’s beyond laughable.
