OFFICIAL Tevita Pangai is not our problem anymore

Developing:

At this stage it looks like he's seeing out 2021 and joining the Dogs next year, with Brisbane releasing him from his 2022 contract. If that's the case, the club won't need to subsidize the deal.

I wonder what Payne Haas will think on all this.
He came out and publicly begged the Broncos to keep TPJ and now he is leaving.
He has lost Fifita, TPJ and Lodge out of his group of mates and i just hope he wants to stick around.

He also said it didn't make sense that we were letting him go now he has been so consistent. Our 20yr old prop with a big history of being a dumb ****, appears to be smarter than the front office.

I suppose that depends on his attitude off the field ... and he did recently meet with a rival coach (reportedly)
Recently speaking to coaches...clubs been telling him for 12 months he isn't wanted.

Yeah because Townsend sucks, that's why, doesn't make it right either and it also shouldn't have happened..

Look, the other possibility is that the reality is that maybe I am just not the type of fan the NRL wants anymore, I don't like corruption or unfairness, maybe this is what the new generation of fans want, though the ratings would suggest it isn't. I'm just waiting for Melbourne to be given their premierships back, I wouldn't be surprised if this regime does it because its a free for all now.

So what's your answer? You can't add to your roster after the season has started?

Yes, plain and simple, unless they are not already contracted to an NRL team.

As you are aware, I am a big supporter of the AFL and the way they do it is to have two trade weeks per year, that is what the NRL should do it they must. It isn't rocket science to get it right, it is about making clear trade windows.

Come on mate, just because someone doesn't agree with you on this issue doesn't mean they are supporters of corruption and unfairness...you are better than that!

If Melbourne get their premierships back, i riot.

Sorry this was not intentionally having a go at you or others who are ok with it, it is just that I cannot understand how this can be ok if the NRL want to have a legitimate, professional competition with integrity. For fans, I am sure some are ok with it or not because it is currently in the rules, my objection is that it is in the rules.

Him and a Tevita are not close mates.

I mean, he literally came out and said they were brothers and didnt want him to leave and hoped the Broncos would do everything they could to keep him. This was just last week.

Direct quote from Haas.

“I really hope Tevita can stay. Tevita is like a brother to me. I hold him close to my heart. I am really close to Tevita and hopefully there is some way he can stay, I hope the Broncos can see eye-to-eye and find a way for him to be here.”

I wonder if he begged TPJ, it sounds to me that TPJ was the one who should have been told by the big man to pull his head in.

Badel rekons we are paying TPJ $250k next year, despite him also earning $750k a year from the bulldogs - more than he was on in Brisbane. There’s nothing to subsidise? Severance? As If he doesn’t leave for a longer deal on more money.

I can’t believe the club would agree to that.

So the Bulldogs are paying Pangai (750) more than the Broncos are paying Staggs & Reynolds (700 each) …

Yet for some bizarre unknown reason we are still paying him 250k next year on top of the 750k the dogs will pay him?

Is that true though? It makes no sense. Just because Badel says it doesn’t mean it’s true.

It doesn’t, but it would be hard to understand how you get something like that wrong if it’s not true. He’s got it from somewhere, usually it’s straight from the horses mouth - pardon the pun.

Tevita will likely be pocketing ~ $1 million a season from the deal, with the Broncos chipping in a $250k lump sum as part of a severance package.

Bulldogs CEO Aaron Warburton:

“We are thrilled to have someone like Tevita. We believe we are paying market value for Tevita and there is upside in him. ’Gus’ Gould and Trent Barrett were very straight with Tevita that there will be hard work ahead but there is also great rewards."

“Gus has been in communication with Tevita and he has been in contact with him. Tevita has X-factor. The way the game is evolving, his ability to break the line and his footwork for someone his size is first-class."

“Tevita is someone who, under the right leadership and coaching, can go to the next level.”

“We were always hopeful of getting Tevita. Over the past few months, there have been a few players who have stayed with their current clubs, but we were confident our offer was a good one and that someone like Tevita would believe in what we are building. We did our due diligence on Tevita. He still has some maturing on the field to do and that’s exciting. He has leadership qualities. The best for Tevita is yet to come.”

Ikin:

“Everyone is glad that things have been resolved with Tevita. We’ve had to make some tough calls with our roster and there’s a whole stack of considerations that need to be taken into account. At this stage, our plan is for Tevita to finish the year with us, but there’s a few clubs that could look at him for this year. He is keen to lock away his future and in the last few days we have been working through this with his agent.”
