OFFICIAL Tevita Pangai is not our problem anymore

Developing:

At this stage it looks like he's seeing out 2021 and joining the Dogs next year, with Brisbane releasing him from his 2022 contract. If that's the case, the club won't need to subsidize the deal.

TPJ to Penrith for rest of this season being finalised. Will play out the season there before going to the dogs.

Crazy to think both Milf and TPJ (and unlikely Lodge) may be playing finals for different clubs this year.
Penrith has 12 days to make this happen apparently. If it's not done by Aug 1st, he stays for the season. Which is looking more likely:

Ben Ikin:

Tevita is sorted for next year, that’s as much as I know at the moment. At this stage, our plan is for him to finish the year with us, but there’s a few clubs that could look at him for this year."

“He is keen to lock away his future and in the last few days we have been working through this with his agent. Everyone is glad that things have been resolved with Tevita. We’ve had to make some tough calls with our roster and there’s a whole stack of considerations that need to be taken into account.”

Basically confirms to the Dogs without confirming it.

Why don't all the top teams start loaning players from the bottom 4 to end the season.
Because not every club is as desperate as us to get rid of players to other teams.

Most teams see a future with their higher paid or better players so would not contemplate what you are suggesting but we are the 2020/2021 Broncos…

Players are playing for bottom four sides for a reason. You're coming top four for a reason too with your roster and players and about to play finals- why are you sitting there worrying about gee I know we are coming first and about to play finals but if only we could get that Bulldogs winger for five weeks- life would be good then.

In a no salary cap competition probably, in a salary cap competition almost every team has players to offer.

What's to stop Melbourne from taking Haas for 8 weeks for example? They could offer us half a million in compensation which wouldn't be part of the cap.
Or Penrith from taking Turbo if Manly miss the finals.

A player should have a notional value otherwise it's a joke if top teams can recruit a star player for 6-8 weeks, it's not fair on the other clubs competing as they effectively have an over cap team.

I think you are jumping at shadows a bit mate. There is no hint that this sort of activity is even close to happening.

We have been trying to offload TPJ for weeks if not months. For whatever reason the Broncos can't seem to get him out the door fast enough and have encouraged him to look for opportunities immediately. It seemed everyone was fine with him going to the Tigers immediately or the Bulldogs but as soon as Penrith is mentioned the "NRL is a joke" routine comes out.

If we wanted to keep TPJ and the Panthers came in with an offer and he wanted to jump ship for 6 weeks to try and win a premiership then i would be waving the flags and joining the march on NRL HQ but what happens with TPJ, Lodge, Milford etc is all on us (the Broncos)

As long as teams are meeting the pro rata contracted salary and all parties are in agreement i think it is worse for the NRL to not allow it in this situation.

Exactly, I am not sure how the point of this can not be understood.

This isolated point isn't the issue. It isn't about TPJ, it is about the precedent it continues after the SBW rubbish last year.

Yeah exactly, the nhl does a great job with the salary cap, not including Tampa bay (tax reasons) if you make a trade deadline deal you have to have the space for his whole cap hit not what he’s fucking owed that year…. You’d just have teams in the hunt absolutely stacked and everyone else just floundering, then teams that are in the hunt will always have the advantage of players wanting the easy way out to play finals and it’ll just snowball from there.
Stupidest shit I’ve ever seen, the nrl just keeps getting worse.

If this is just a one off fine but we all know how this plays out, the people running this show are never proactive

Again, i think it i jumping at shadows. Really, how much is this happening?

I guess it is worth the discussion though so have at it but to me this just highlights the mis-management and incorrect direction our club has taken over the last 2 years vs. another reason to complain about the NRL.

Why would the Broncos do that? What is possibly in that for them?

On the flip side, whilst we are dog-shit ordinary and no chance of playing finals in the foreseeable future, it could be good to loan some of our better players to strong clubs so they can get experience in a winning environment / culture. Maybe even win a premiership.

Obviously the risk though is that they may never want to come back…

However, when we return to being heavyweights, **** that shit for the reasons you outlined.

So we let them go **** Pamela Anderson for a few weeks then tell them it’s time to come home to Gina rinehart.

I edited it before you posted big fella 👍

That aside, you could have come up with a better example though. 2021 Pamela Anderson is not the same as the 1990’s edition. But I guess she no longer has HEP C, so that’s a bonus.

Also, as an aside, have you seen Rinehart’s daughter Bianca? Not too bad at all, in a Victoria Beckham kinda way.

He's a good player and will always leave fans thinking "wow, how good could he be".. but he's been here for years and done it every season where he takes down a pack on his own and then turns up against a lesser pack and decides that today isn't the day for it

I find it funny that we have more sophisticated rules to stop end of season shenanigans where the bottom teams give players to the top teams in SVRL than the NRL has.

Porthoz for Chairman!
