The Ashes 2010-2011

I just don't understand why they'd push for quick singles in our current predicament.

IMO Watson needs to be the number 6. Now that he has established himself as an allrounder put him where he belongs.

Ponting needs to either go down the order or out on his ear.

The team is lacking balance and the selectors are looking for a quick fix.

FFS.

Openers getting run out in Test Cricket... [icon_non

And it looks like we may only have 9 wickets to play with too with the Harris injury. Or he could be batting with a bad ankle. Either way we are even more stuffed.

Pretty pathetic tbh. Aussies making the poms look like world beaters.

Hussey gone. All over now, but as if it wasn't already. Can't take anything away from England's bowling though.

Surely that's it for Punter, at least as far as captaincy goes. You used to be able to rely on him to stay at the crease to save a game but he looked hopeless out there today. Clarke at the moment is looking no better, only a matter of time for him.

Would love to see some fight from some of these blokes. Fairbdinkum wherebis the pride.

Hopefully we'll see some positive action taken now that the Ashes are gone on home soil. That's probably what it was going to take for shit to change anyway, and now we've got it.

Sutherland, all the selectors including Chappell, Nielson and any of his cronies - all hopefully will be under threat. Not to mention personnel and role changes within the team as a result of new men at the top.

If this doesn't force a shake-up, I don't know what will.

I don't expect miracles or for us to suddenly be world beaters (especially with the impending young team), but what I do expect is that we are always working in the right direction and not living on past glories. That hasn't been happening for about 2-3 years now and it must change.

After the World Cup we have Test Matches against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. That is a good chance to really put the broom through and start again. The only ones that deserve to be picked without question are Watson and Hussey at the moment. Get it right and get some new faces in there in preparation for Sri Lanka, South Africa and India.

Haddin will retain his spot but I really think it is time for Paine to become full-time keeper.

Get Khawaja and Chris Lynn in the side and stick with them.

As far as bowling goes, Johnson would have to be the most frustrating player in the world at the moment. At his best he is good as anyone but that happens too rarely. Siddle is the same (though not as good when at his best). Harris just needs time off to make his knee better and he will be good. Hilfenhaus just can't seem to take wickets, even though he bowls well.

Beer and O'Keefe need mentoring. Having the full-pace attack only works on wickets like the WACA. Smith isn't ready to be the spinner in the team yet. Speaking of Smith, just needs to work on his technique a bit and he can be an important part of the team. Work sticking with.

Not sure what will happen with Katich and his injury.

Come April when we go to Bangladesh and then Zimbabwe I'd like to see something like:

1. Hughes
2. Watson
3. Khawaja
4. Lynn
5. Hussey (c)
6. Smith
7. Paine
8. Johnson
9. O'Keefe/Beer/Hauritz
10. Harris
11. Hilfenhaus/Siddle/Bollinger

Too soon for Lynn.
Agreed but he is a good prospect. Bottom line is the talent is extremely bare in the batting and spin bowling at the moment. All this talk about paine is foolish imo. Matthew wade is better than him imo. Id like paine to go back to opening the batting tbh.

Don't get me wrong, Lynn is a great prospect and I'm very excited to see what the future holds but at this stage he's clearly not up to it.

We take too long to blood kids.

True, we should be looking to tour some when we play the minnows next year.

And give them a solid few games. I'm sick of the fact most players have to be late 20s to get a shot. And those who are younger get dropped as soon as they have a couple of bad games.

Exhibit a: phil Hughes. Look at his lack of confidence after his axing in 2009.

Depends on the players.

Lynn certainly wouldn't be one of them.

Maddinson might be.

Problem is there is very few if any young batsmen coming through that you would consider taking on a tour anywhere. Plentybof young bowlers around though. No spinners around .

Lynn needs a few tons back to back imo. He does all his scoring in the 2nd innings. Maddinson is 19 and looks the goods but still a bit early you would think but I wont complain if the young ones get a go
