The Ashes 2010-2011

I'd take Maddinson before Lynn.

Lynn is just too rocks or diamonds for my liking.

It's tough, I mean, really our biggest problem this tour has been batting.

I do agree but maddinson has played what 6 first class matches. So I hope he gets more time but reality is he will probably be chucked in because our older bats are pathetic

If only they had given Hodge a go instead of North.

Against a team like the Zimbots or the Bangers I don't think it would matter, at least it's better than throwing a 6 game rookie into an Ashes series squad.

Which players does BHQ think deserve a go?

So far we have...

Usman Khawaja
Chris Lynn
Stephen O'Keefe
Michael Beer
Nic Maddinson

Who else?

Even cameron white would have been better than north. Hodge is to old now and had his book stamped when he bitched about selectors

I dont think beer should be there at all tbh. Id be looking at wade and paine. Converting paine to a batsmen.

Maddinson is in good form as well, Lynn is averaging 51 in Shield though. Yeh he is young but why not play him against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh???

Check out the scores, very rock or diamonds. I just think he'd do better staying in Shield based on what I've seen, which admittedly is more I've seen of Maddinson - most of my opinions on him come from a mob of Blues fans.

But when we tour Zimbabwe and Bangladesh the Shield will be over. Yeh rocks or diamonds but if you average over 50 in Shield at only 20 years of age you've got talent.

Not saying don't give Maddinson a go either, he is a good talent as well.

I bet neither of them play the nangers zimbots. Khawaja, ferguson and white will get a chance thougj.

White will be no better than North.

But you're right, I expect to see Khawaja.

I know that but try telling the victards that. They think he is the greatest captain of all time...

Ahh, I thought it was a personal recommendation, not just an expectation.

Australians prefer Beer to Bollinger.

It is essential that changes are made for the tests against the minnows. Otherwise, some of our players who should move on will do enough against the nuffies to prolong their careers.

The band aid will be stuck back on, even though it is curled up on the sides.

Clarke will come back, but he needs a break - he has the public against him, which is a kiss of death. My comments about him becoming the next K. Hughes have a ring of truth, unfortunately.

Usman must come in because he has technique and class.
In many ways, it is best that Ricky goes completely - hanging around as a number 6 or as a non captaining player will create more problems than solutions.
It would be like the Greg Chappell era when he picked and chose the tours he wanted to be involved in while Kim Hughes was criticised by the powerful inner sanctum.

I would definitely keep Watson at the top of the order - he is successful, effective and plays aggressively. To the critics who say he doesn't convert his 50's into big hundreds, personally I would rather a guy who averages 50 ( him ) than some of the alternatives.
He plays the new ball as well as anyone.

Like others have said, the jury is out about Hughes - maybe against an attack of lesser quality than the current English team who could be effective, but that is hardly the point.

As others have also suggested, Brad Hodge, despite his age, is the best number 3 in the country by a long way. Maybe he should be selected to steady the batting ship in August.

Selecting hodge would be a waste of time and a stupid selection imo. Now is the time for youth not a bloke who retired from first.class cricket last year.

England retain the Ashes........by far the better team throughout the series. icon_thumbs_u

Lots of big questions need answering in the Australian team/back room staff and it will be interesting to see what team they put out at Sydney.

Lets face it the Aussies don't have the talent anymore and have been beaten by a better side. I still believe the Aussies should have been better than what they have shown. The whole Cricket Australia setup should come under question IMO. From poor selections to poor preparation to the injury rate among fast bowlers. Heads will and must roll IMO. Time for change and a fresh approach particularly in the coaching department...

I look forward to seeing what happens in the next few months with Australian Cricket, I anticipate a fair few youngsters getting a chance.

Full Credit to the poms they prepared perfectly and out played the Aussies.

Yep fully agree.

Poms also had bowling depth which we severly lack
