The Dolphins discussion

The QLD NRL clubs should pull their cash out of the QRL if they are going to be like that ... se how the QRL like it then.

no way should they allow the QRL to hold them to ransom and continually disadvantaged when compared to the NSW clubs

QRL is in charge of the furthering the game in Queensland- where would you put another team to further the game?

Also the QRL are working towards everyone having five sides- are the Broncos going to want five sides to run?

How would the Broncos not giving Wynnum money hurt the QRL?

if the Broncos did things unilaterally, nothing would change and the QRL wouldn't hurt a bit.

but take all of the fringe NRL players from the Broncos, Titans, Cowboys and Dolphins out of the NRL and watch what happens to the quality of that comp.

I realise that you think the QLD cup is the be all and end all of rugby league, but every QLD NRL club having 5 feeders is stupid and will only hurt the QLD clubs (on the field) long term, and will always put us at a disadvantage when compared to a club like the Panthers (and the other similar NSW clubs) where all their fringe players are in the one team.

Problem there and I always raise this is- the QRL are not putting another club in Brisbane.
Why not.....? The talent pool is still being shared....

Just have to start changing the tiers......again they should follow the NSWRL.
Parramatta for example having Wentworthville..etc etc ...local leagues still feeding to the Eels on both NSWRL and NRL levels.....

Some of the "BRL" sides would play in that kind of tier.

Five feeders- what are you talking about?

You seem to overlook or not know- the Broncos chose the model they currently use and like it.

Cowboys just overhauled their system and are happy. I have never heard the Titans not happy with Bears and Tweed.

Redcliffe are happy too.

Geographically where are you putting this side? What area needs a team?

Can you just take a second to think about how stupid Redcliffe would be to not have their own team that they've had for 75 years.

They have the perfect set up.

about as stupid as not calling their NRL team Redcliffe.

besides, if the NRL teams stuck together, I doubt they'd have anything to worry about

I'm not sure if that's directed at me?

I'm pushing for ALL NRL sides to have a side in the 2nd tier comp (NSWRL & QRL is the 2nd tier)

Geographically......
NSW based NRL clubs play in the NSWRL.
QLD base NRL clubs play in the QRL

Probably just old boys being old idiots again. Just call them Redcliffe.

I understand what add teams means but that means three new teams in Queensland. The reality is you'd have two teams in Townsville- three on the Gold Coast and another one in Brisbane and it wouldn't add another region it wouldn't bring in anymore juniors it would add nothing to the game at all.

The NSWRL don't have this issue because they don't run a statewide competition and haven't moved beyond Sydney yet.

Toowoomba just worked their arse off for 17 years to get back in and prove they can service an area and how they can run the women's game and three new teams aren't going to want to do any of that they just want a game on Sunday.

The cost to the QRL too- three new teams to fly to Carins and PNG etc and what is the game getting back on the investment?

Are the Cowboys going to run five teams? Hire five new coaches for their two women's teams and three men's teams?

When the Titans are down to play PNG and 18 players have to fly to PNG are the Titans going to say we need those blokes here to train the NRL side?

If the NRL said just put three new teams anywhere who cares- everyone would lose their mind- the QRL should just do it and lose money through and be delighted the game gains nothing.

If you take your NRL club glasses off it makes no sense for the game.

I think that the broncos just need to take the cowboys approach and put all their NRL potential players in one team and the fringe plodders in the other teams.

The obvious flaws of the current system is that future NRL players aren’t all building combinations week in week out. Im sure Kev and the club have some say in game plans and playing structures for the affiliate teams but it’s dispersed over a number of other coaches.

Panthers do so well because their reserve team plays the exact style of football their NRL team does and are able to do a great job of “next man up”. Broncos can’t have that.

The other issue is that under the current system, no players are officially broncos until they are 18. Sure they get signed at 16 or 17 but they don’t put on the jersey or trining gear until later. Patty not being a “bronco” until he was 18 is tragedy.

These guys all have a loyalty and strong association with clubs other than the broncos

I like the "Toowoomba" model better than your own team. I think the QRL will never put another team in for those reasons I have stated and what do they do if the Broncos say we aren't doing that next year?

The Penrith model gets thrown up over the last three years- but they've had years without success too and the other side is the Storm do the feeder clubs system and they've had success.

Redcliffe are going to be interesting because they have the system; so what is going to be their success, their Under 16's are top of the table at the moment so in five years how many of those players are playing ISC/NRL.

In hindsight I wonder if the Broncos' owners should have bought land and started a club from Under 6 all the way through to a BRL team.

Well they kinda do......

Canberra
Newcastle

NRL QLD expansion aside. I still haven't been able to identify any real reason, why The Dolphins were told they can't use the name Redcliffe.

The last point is basically what I’m annoyed about

It would have been a good idea to have a consistent pathway from the start, but in that respect the Dolphins have an advantage because they have a better all round setup and history than when the Broncos joined the comp. It will be interesting to see how their system is working 10 years down the track.

Even with the BS excuse that the QRL are forcing all QLD NRL clubs to have multiple affiliates, I don't see how the Dolphins NRL team calling themselves Redcliffe stops that occurring.

The can still have the Capras as an affiliate along with Redcliffe (QLD Cup side)

And it's not like the Dolphins NRL team will suddenly forget they also own the QLD Cup side if you don't call them Redcliffe

It doesn't and no one said it did.
