The QLD Autopsy...

Agendas and knifes are out... some people here almost sound like NSW'kers.

First of all, that's Knives.

Second, point out where anyone here is wrong in what they're saying.

I've got pretty similar sentiments to other on here as well. It was a one man band for NSW and outside Hayne they were good-ish but not brilliant. Hayne had one of the most dominant performances I have seen. I thought Reynolds and Hodkinson were solid but no better than Pearce and Malony. It was telling that Hayne was playing FB, halfback and 5/8th in the second half.

With our guys, we lacked polish and cohesion. Obviously the Cronk injury played a bit part in that, but it looked like we didn't train hard enough. I was discussing this with my mates and came to the conclusion that we probably should have had a few more training sessions and less media commitments (if that is possible.)

I thought Teo and Gurrea where outstanding. Gurrea really surprised me and was probably our best forward. Probably should be starting next game. Teo gave us good attack in the second half (albeit no try though). Parker had another good game but did give away that penalty goal. He seems frustrated, has been giving away a lot of penalties for us this season. Scott and Myles were solid but did not provide enough go-forward. Mcqueen was awful, Gillett was ok-ish but missing for most of the game and Papilli made no impact whatsoever. That is our weakness. We really really missed Thaiday tonight.

With the backs, I though Slater was phenomenal and Hodges and Tate were fantastic as well. Inglis as did not get enough good ball and hence made little impact. As others have said, he was flat-footed too many times. I personally feel Slater confirmed why he should stay at FB tonight, but something needs to be done about Inglis and the lack of ball.

Thurston did have an off game and yea DCE didn't step up but tough to step up in that circumstance. Goal kicking didn't really cost us though - Thurston's tough kicks from the sideline counterbalanced by Hogkinson missing two relatively easy chances. I thought Smith had a poor game as well, pretty terrible first half from him. Did get a bit better in the 2nd half though

All in all, we hade no go-forward and looked too rusty. Big ask to win in Sydney without Cronk and with NSW getting Bird and Fafita back.

So whats the alternative? Wait til we lose the series before we change the team? Just because we have won 8 in a row doesnt mean we have the best 17 out there. If you think the 17 that played tonight is the best 17 QLD has, ur kidding urself. gotta make a change before we have no choice but to

Inglis has to be given time at fullback, we've been wasting him now for 2 years. Disappointed with the game plan, if you want to play that tight pick an extra prop, if you want to pick that many backrowers then use them FFS.

We dropped way to much pill in that first half, that really hurt us. I thought Thurston had a few good chances to roll the ball in behind but we just kept doing the same thing over and over and hitting the front runner. Our kicking particularly DCE was just shit, to deep and easy for Hayne to pick off, we definitely needed to try a few along the ground and make him pick them up.

NSW the better side by far and we deserved to get rolled.

Inglis needs to get quality ball which comes down to the halves and on that side, it's Thurston.

Slater was outstanding, no way do you replace him after that.

Idiocy alert:

@BuzzRothfield: I've done my column tomorrow on the Coward Tackle - Josh Papalii's dog shot on Paul Gallen #Origin

That's a couple cheap shots Papalii has put on Gallen now.

I like it. He's definately got Gallen looking over his shoulder.

Game Summary

Hayne has a blinder. Take him away from NSW and they lose.

Thurston has a shocker. DCE and Cam Smith not too far behind. I hold these three most responsible for the loss. The forwards IMO did their job.

Myles was amazing. Teo and Papalii aggressive. Guerra was solid. Parker held his own as did Gillett. Matt Scott way too quiet.

Same old story as last year....gotta get GI quality ball. It's no good Thurston giving it to him when he's got no room to move. Thurston even started bring Guerra in as first choice receiver.... pushing GI out even further. Fucken craziness

Slater was good, but he could still do what he did tonight from the wing. GI must play fullback.

Assuming Cronk is gonskis for game 2....

1. Inglis
2. Boyd
3. Tate
4. Hodges
5. Slater
6. Thurston
7. DCE
8. Scott
9. Smith
10. Myles
11. Teo
12. Papalii
13. Parker

14. Milford
15. Gillett
16. Guerra
17. Thaiday

Slater was great tonight, but i agree on inglis needing more ball. They arent going to move slater tho so its not worth even entertaining the idea. Rest of your team i like, except i would take Gillett out and replace with lillyman. we need another prop for when scott and myles come off and lillyman is in great form atm

yepppp, hannant or lillyman, just another prop ffs for when scott comes off. it has to be boyd, inglis and slater as the back 3 somehow. that is a lethal kick return combination and would put pressure on the nsw kickers. they just kicked to tate all night without much risk. tate is much better at running lines at center.

My intention was to use Thaiday as the 4th prop. It's why I've kept him fresh on the bench.

Are we all expecting Milford to get that utility spot on the bench now? I have a bad feeling they will use Gillett as the utility and just bring thaiday in as the only change

I am more confident of winning game 2 now then I ever was of winning game 1, and I was pretty confident of winning game 1. After the game NSW carried on like they won the series. How many times have they done this after winning one game?

Queensland were a little off, particularly Thurston, but he never has 2 bad rep games in-a-row.

Slater was awesome and so was Hodges. Can't beleive the negativity towards these two in this thread.

It's pretty simple to get the ball to Inglis more. Have him play wing in the early sets and then settle into centre late in the set.

I tossed with that option (Gillett no.14) and bring in Lilyman...allowing Thaiday to be used as a back rower.

Didn't feel comfortable with Gillett there ...

Well that sucked.

Weird game, seemed like it was setting up for a Queensland win but it never followed...

Better go forward, better options from the halves will see us through.

Good game otherwise, Blues were just better on the evening.

Thaiday clearly missed.

How funny is Rothfield? He's claiming Papalii's hit on Gallen is a cheap shot. Gallen didn't hurt his neck until he tried to elbow Papalli in the head.

We lost Cronk early in the game & that was the ball game.

Seems like DCE wasn't training to replace Cronk at all.

JT has a shit of a game, but that happens.

Considering the amount of ball NSW had, QLD did well to stay in the game.

Congrats to NSW for winning, but has anyone told them it's a 3 game series. The way the went on, novices to the game would have thought they had won the series.

QLD have a great chance of winning the next game with all injuries in the game & a suspension to Reynolds.

Josh Reynolds has been charged with a grade two dangerous throw for his lifting tackle on Brent Tate and will miss two games with an early guilty plea.
Josh Morris has sustained a reported posterior cruciate ligament tear.
Cooper Cronk has broken his arm and will miss eight weeks.
Paul Gallen has a neck injury and is in doubt for Game Two.
Anthony Watmough has sustained a reported torn bicep.
Cameron Smith has reportedly sustained ligament damage to his left ankle.
Brett Morris has a suspected AC-joint injury.

slater got the same treatment at the end by an exact same hit.

if a utility is what we need for game 2 i'd go for dave taylor over milford. surely by getting his second chance he'd be fired up and really have a go.

That's quite the casualty ward.
