Re: Round 21 Discussion

Definitely a hallmark of Bennett teams. That slipping down a few gears really helped win those premierships...

Mustn't have been watching footy for very long if you don't know this is how Bennett teams work. The fabled "post origin slump" isn't because players are still wrecked from the origin 12 weeks later. Its because other teams know that finals aren't won in June.

Didn't address my post at all, but that's fine I've learnt that isn't how you work.

Care to explain how we won 6 premierships with him if his team always slips downs gear at the business end?

He got lucky, apparently.

It wasn't good coaching at all. It was just luck.

Re: Wayne Bennet's 2015 Team Line Up

AP hates Bennett, thats why he doesn't want him back ... the rest of us on the anti-Bennett train, have different and far more realistic fears about Bennett's return.

Re: Wayne Bennet's 2015 Team Line Up

Wayne will improve our defence, improve junior development and just be better than Griffin. If we spend the time looking for a proper replacement for after he retires, it'll be a huge upgrade from Griffin at the very least.

our junior development is going good as it is. our defense won't improve, if Bennett, as rumoured, keeps Kearney on. and i have a bad feeling that Bennetts retirement will surprise the board and we won't have an ideal replacement lined up.

Re: Wayne Bennet's 2015 Team Line Up

Where is that being rumoured?

Re: Wayne Bennet's 2015 Team Line Up

It was in one of the first articles after the Bennett announcement, something along the lines of "Kearney is expected to keep his job, while new High-Performance boss Alex Corvo may not be so lucky."

I'm pretty sure there was no actual quotes or anything, just speculation, I'd say he's getting the arse.

Re: Wayne Bennet's 2015 Team Line Up

I really don't see Bennett bringing Mamo. He is under contract for next season and is from down that way. The only younger players I see Bennett bringing back are the young Queenslanders he signed while down there. Bennett knows the Broncos bring through enough of their own young players to be stealing the Knights ones. I don't think Bennett will want to be seen as the coach who took a lot of young Knights guns with him when he left.

I've been very impressed by Mamo as well. He would be an asset, but I think we would be next to no chance of recruiting him.

Speaking of young Queenslanders, what ever happened to Mitch Frei. 1910 and other more knowledgeable members probably could shed some light - he seemed to be highly regarded a couple of years ago before going to Newcastle, then has fallen off the radar. I don't watch Q cup or NSW cup, so I've got no idea, but I guess he didn't develop as planned? Depending on the circumstances, I wouldn't mind him back with us, though we do have a plethora of young second rowers coming through, so it might be an unnecessary signing anyway.

Re: Wayne Bennet's 2015 Team Line Up

Frei has been one of the best forwards in the ISC.

Should receive a look in.

more speculation or just wishful thinking

Do you honestly believe the board are that stupid? Do you honestly believe they would not realize they made a mistake last time and not have a single person in line to take over when Bennett retires?

If I remember correctly, the last time Bennett left, it all happened so fast they didn't have the time to have an ideal replacement.

I also recall that Broncos were trying to lure Bellamy to the club, but it all went to shit.

They will have a replacement.

Just ignore Foordy. He is overly negative about anything Bennett. His mind is made up and he is trying to poison others with his rambling.

I'm just going the other way to some here with their views that Bennett can do no wrong, will drop every player we don't want n the top team and change our style of play (even though it is the same as he has always coached anyway).

if people want to believe that, thats their choice. but surely I'm not the only poster on here thats not allowed an agenda.

I very clearly addressed it. When he has a team that is just clearly better than every other team - ie. His first 5 premierships - playing at the same level all year is fine. When he doesn't, ie. 2001 and onwards, playing at the same level all year results in falling away at the end of the year as other teams start getting to business. 2006 it all came together in the last 2.5 games, 2010 the dragons were just better all year. They didn't get better come finals time, they just carried on being better than every other team.

I hate Bennett, but that's not even why I don't want him back. I hate Hayne but id gladly have him at the broncos. I don't want Bennett back because hes not among the best coaches anymore, and I know what he'll do to our club. Even worse I know what he'll do to the club when he leaves again.
